I'm thinking about moving to a more rurual area but can't stand the idea of having no broadband/DSL etc...

Is there some way around it?

How many of you out there still have to use dial-up?

You could use Satellite, but it is expensive.

Also, can use DSL most anywhere where there is phone service - not everywhere, but most places.

I think as long as you have a phone line, you can have ADSL service.

Or I have heard of another kind of DSL service that does not use any phone line, but it is a bit more expensive.

Seach Google for "Speakeasy" and that provider will show you the options for different DSL services, I believe.

Direcway satellite ISP..... you have to purchase the equipment for $599 and $59/month. 15 month contract required. My dad had it for several years and it sucked soooooooo bad. It wouldn't work in bad weather and they would shut off or slow down service whenever you exceeded 500kps (such as when downloading a video clip). But he got it for another property and it worked much better.... I think because of a newly designed modem. But he had no choice since DSL isn't available and dial up is painfully slow at only 14kps. He was actually running up $500/month on toll charges alone.

I live in a rural area, use satellite internet and it is not really that expensive. It was about $600 to get it set up and costs about $70 a month.

Wireless card. Mine works everywhere I have tried so far. In some way out areas I get roaming and it is a bit slow. Where I live there is no high speed provider yet (new subdivision). As long as I have a phone signal I have internet and it is pleanty fast. I have the sprint card (work related).
