Ahhh, its almost that time. For the love of the game. If you build it they will come. Play Ball!!!! Take me out to the ballgame.

I would like everyone to post there World Series predictions in this thread. As I have been preparing for the 2007 baseball season, I have come to a very surprising conclusion. My World Series pick turns out to be a big surprise.

SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

Yes, there is alot I like about the 2007 Giants.

Dave Roberts gives them the leadoff hitter that they have not had since at least Bret Butler in his heyday. What a huge boost it is to have a guy like that at the top of the lineup, setting up a really nice order. 50 SB guy with decent pop for a leadoff hitter with a very good OB%.

The Giants have lead the league in walks 4 of the last 5 years, I certainly look for that to countinue.

Then you have the realiable Randy Winn, a guy that can play almost anywhere.

Hitting 3rd, is Rich Aurila, one of the most underated players in the game protecting Barry Bonds in the lineup.

4th is Bonds, who I think is going to do much better than last season. He was hurt more than advertised, and did much better the 2nd half of the season.

Then the lineup rounds out nicely with, DURHAM,FELIZ,MOLINA, and Vizquel.

This lineup does not even factor in Ryan Klesco who could come back and do some major damage coming off of a major injury.

Then you have the starting rotation.

This why I have made this pick.

ZITO
CAIN
LOWERY
MORRIS

That foursome has some real ability if you ask me.

Cain and Lowery have the ability to become great pitchers if they can figure it all out.
Dont be surprised of Cain becomes staff ace material very soon.
Lowery had a semi down year last season, if he can pich up to his ability along with Zito, this staff from 1 to 4 has the chance to be the best starting staff in the league this season.

I think the key for the Giants success this season is Benitez. Dont laugh, but this guy is capable of being one of the best closers in the league. The rest of the pen is not that great, but who has a good pen these days anyway. One good thing about the Giants starters is the fact that they eat up innings, so maybe this will limit there exposure.

Another Key thing I look at when I make prediction is to see players that had career years, and players that had down years.

The Giants did not have hardly anyone who had even close to a career year last season, but still almost won there division anyway.

There is alot of upside for teams like this.

On the other hand, the Giants have had many players that had down years that are capable of turning it up alot this season. Some of those.

Benitez
Bonds
Lowery
Cain
Morris

Also subsitute Zito for Schmitt who also had a really bad season last year.

Lots of upside all around for the Giants.

White Sox...

A homer play and not a homer play...

Most balanced and complete team in the American League...

A starting rotation that struggled last year after showing signs of fatigue... now fully rested... Buerhle looks great...

Garland, Mark B, and Jose could win 50+ games themselves easily...

Javier Vazquez I truthfully look to have a monster year... he is very happy where he is, and has arguably the best pitching coach in baseball working with him all off season...

Bullpen is unreal... Fireballers... Almost everyone in the BP throws 95+... One of the best closers in the game... With two of the best set up men in baseball in Thornton and McDougal (If he stays healthy).

Lineup is dynamite as we all know...

Best 3-4-5 in the game YES in the game ahead of the Yankees... (Thome, Dye, Konerko)

That isn't even including arguably there best overall player... In Joe Crede... Crede robbed of the gold glove now 2 years in a row but he did earn a silver slugger award he didn't deserve because A-Rod had better numbers...

Think Brian Anderson has a nice year... and there catcher is top 10 in the game...

Number one flaw with this team...

There fifth starter... will someone step up? They have a lot of formidable candidates but the question is will any step up... If this team stays healthy they are the best in baseball... because they are all hungrier then they were in 2005... And they have a manager that will not allow this team to fail this year...

Best overall team in baseball IMO... with the Red Sox being a close second... Red Sox have the best rotation in the game with 4 potential number one starters... they have some question marks but I would say they will be the second best team in baseball...

Surprise team in baseball this year IMO is going to be the Texas Rangers... Seen a couple of there young arms play and they can pitch... with the addition of McCarthy this team has a shot to compete in the West and I think they will win it

As a Dodger fan I am more worried about the Rockies then the Giants. Key is the age factor. Guys like Winn, Bonds, Durham, Vizquel go out you don't have the depth. On the other hand the Dodgers have tremendous depth and the ability to make the big deal if needed come deadline time. We shall see.

Mets over the White Sox.

El Duque has arthritis and will pitch in neck pain all season.
Pedro is aching with rotator cuff and calf injuries and will never be the same.
Maine has nice stuff but is unproven still.
Oliver Perez was a one year wonder 3 years ago and was 3-13 last season.
If Glavine doesn't make 31 or more starts, the Mets will be looking at Philly all season, and maybe battling Fla for third.

Fellas, don't bother. Cardinals repeat!

Carpenter is best starting pitcher in the game not named Santana.
But it gets muddy after that.
Kip Wells is not a good #2 man. I can look past the 57-74 lifetime because most of that was with a crappy Pirate team, but in 2007 at best he'll give you 12-12 4.80 ERA and allows way to many base runners. Look for like a 1.40 + WH/IP. These are not numbers you want out of your #2 man.

Anthony Reyes is the 3 starter.
He's also a .500 pitcher.

Adam Wainwright has nasty stuff, when his Uncle Charlie is on, his yakker makes hitters knees turn to jelly in the box.
But he's got to be consistant with the curve.
Look at Moose, he has the most devasting overhand curve ball in the game, if Wainwright gets Moose type of command, look out, he's going to be a stud.
Adam Wainwright is the Card 'X' factor.

Izzy is a good closer.

I like the infield alot.
Do I evem have to talk about Rolen and Pujols, that is one mighty one-two punch, and up the middle of Eck-Man and AK is as scrappy as it gets.

I like Molina behind the dish.

But I don't like that starting pitching.
Reyes and Kip Wells are soft.

I'm still just enjoying being the champs, and we will continue to be the champs until October of this year. My post was just a homer fan still high from attending the clinching game. But I do like our chances to repeat. I asked WTF when we signed Wells, but did the same when we signed Weaver, only to watch him pitch flawlessly throughout the playoffs, and in the clinching game. Our infield is the best, both offensively and defensively. That's the only thing where there are no question marks. But who gives a fuck right now? We just won the whole damn thing! It kind of sucks how 9 hours after we won it, ESPN was saying "what are the Cardinals gonna do? They are really in trouble with their whole staff being free agents!" We all just laughed and said fuck you, we are the champs! Fans have to enjoy the hell out of these times, because they may not come again, ever. Just ask my Cub fan friends!

Not sure what you see in Baltimore other than the fact I live close by, they will be battling once again to stay out of the cellar, 4th place again.

You lost all credibility by putting the worst franchise in all of sports in the playoffs and making no mention of the NL east favorite in your division or wild card picture.

Sorry. Totally disagree.

If it's one thing I've learned, whenever the Phillies decide to talk about how great they are; they miserably fail. It'll happen again this year.

Giants don't have a chance unless Zito has a 2002 repeat and Bonds goes back to expected form for his age and lack of roids. (min. .280 38hr 100+ RBI). Durham will also have to repeat the biggest fluke season anybody had last year, again.

Way too many x-factors with this team, everything would have to go like clockwork for them to take a stab at it.

And I'll address each of these valid, yet flawed points.

El Duque has had pain for his entire career. He is an old man but he will battle through it and be effective. I expect slightly better than .500
Pedro won't come back until he is absolutely ready. He will be 100% and will be a major impact post-all star break.
Maine has great stuff and although unproven, can pitch to a solid record.
Oliver Perez is an unknown. Sometimes he comes out and pitches lights out and other times he looks terrible. I'm not a huge fan so if he's terrible it won't be any surprise to me.
Glavine is another elder statesman. I still expect him to have a quality year in the realm of 16-10 or so.
You failed to mention Chan Ho, but that's understandable. He's another unknown. I feel he has something to prove though, and that is always dangerous.

I think what a lot of people overlook is that the starting pitching for the Mets isn't asked to do much. 5-6 innings of keeping the team in the game is all thats expected. The bullpen was bolstered yet again in the off-season by Minaya and is looking as strong, if not stronger, than last year. Braves lost a ton of offense while gaining... Hampton? Ha. Prove to me he's as good as he was before NY and I'll listen. The Phillies? They went out and got a lot of "names" with a lot of question marks and a lot of past their primes. They don't impress me at all, especially in that box of a stadium.

Mets win the division hands down.

The Giants might make a lot of noise early in the year but they are way too old to follow through at the end when it counts. I look for them to falter in the second half.. hard.

PS.. The loss of credibility was to Chop, not you Bill. : )

Mets win EAST hands down! Braves couldn't win if they were spotted a 10 game lead. Mets win it all this year.
