Case in point...I called PF Changs tonight and ordered some food. Went in to pick it up. A guy brought me my food and handed me my receipt. It had a space for a tip on the bottom. Do you or don't you tip when picking up a take out order?

I tip $3-5 if they bring it to my car. I don't tip if I go inside to get it unless I get it from the bartender (He has to actually stop doing his normal job and really does not want to deal with food... Then I give him a $1-2.) If its a hot chick and I want her number, well then...

their credit card slips just print that automatically. Don't have to tip for take out since there is no service provided.

the person who had to stop what they were doing to pack up your take out including condiments, napkins, plasticware, and misc sauces surely thinks he/she deserves a tip. Use common sense. If a girl makes 7 bucks an hour and she helps get your food together then YES she deserves a tip. 10% is appropriate for take out tipping.

Exactly
I used to have to do take out orders a few years ago and I has paid $2.01 per hour plus tips, and I also had to pay a tip share usually 2-3% back to the house...do what you like but I'm sure they appreciate the tips

I don't agree with this...when they took the job they were told they would make an hourly wage plus tips.

I guess im different than alot here for I am not tipping anything for takeout food.

Tip plenty (when service is average or better) at bars and when I sit down to eat at restaurants, but imho tipping for takeout is a bit over the top.

Just keep in mind that if you frequent a joint make sure to tip...they remeber people that tip and people that dont tip and I would rather have the person bagging my food know that they are going to be taken care...if you know what I mean

I never TIP when I pick up, I feel that is customary.....

If they deliver or serve my table, of course....

I thought this was standard.

The reputation that has caused most beachfront restaurants in Hollywood/Miami to add gratuity to the check

Maybe this isn't the case in canada, but not all countries have the same pay setup for these kind of jobs (ie base income is better). I imagine most aussies would be seen as tightarses in america if we didn't realise what the standard is there simply because we do it differently.

having worked in the hotel business, I can tell you that Aussies and British are way worst than Canadians in terms of tipping.
