Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the San Francisco 49ers have signed cornerback Nate Clements.
It's a mind-boggling eight-year, $80 million deal, with $22 million in guaranteed money, and it makes Clements the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.
A league source tells us that, as a practical matter, it's a six-year deal worth $7.25 million per year.
Clements was expected to be pursued by several teams. But he never got out of San Fran.

lots of teams overpay on the first day. wonder what they have left to pay Frank Gore cause you know Rosenhaus is bumping his chops to get Gore a fat contract now.

Very good corner most of the time, and The Bills will miss him but they knew they couldn't compete, but that contract he got is ridiculous.

will certainly miss him in Buffalo...but Levy wants to spend the free agency money on superstars like matt bowen(got cut), Andre davis(3 catches)...and of course the A-Train(has been )Anthony Thomas.

$80 million LOL. Decent corner, no way he is worth that kind of dough. Also hearing that the Bills are shopping McGahee....why? You spend a 1st round pick on the guy a few years ago, and he misses the first because of rehab. Plays a couple of years and then you trade him? What a stupid move by the Bills....McGahee is a stud IMO, just stuck on the wrong team. Give him a good O line and he gets 1200 yds. Put him in Denver and he gets 1500+ yards in that system.
And this is coming from a NE fan.

McGahee is a cancer. He is forcing a trade. He does not want to be here. Overrated and demanding a new contract.

According to a league source with knowledge of the negotiations, the Patriots are about to make the splash of free agency by agreeing to a contract with Ravens linebacker Adalius Thomas, considered one of the top players on the market.

“Thomas is done there,” said the source, a rival executive.

More coming in a moment.

Not only is Willis on the block know so is Spikes.
Nate is Overrated and that may be the most RIDICULOUS contract I have ever heard of.

The only way a team like SF can get a top defensive player is too make a ridiculous offer. If you're a 49er fan I'd think you'd be happy, a top corner is very valuable in the NFL.

I agree.....just like that loser Bledsoe who always looked miserable on the Buffalo squad.....he hated Buffalo and didn't have a problem verbalizing it!

Spikes has a bad attitude as well from what I hear. They are trying to trade him but if they can't they will cut him.

Immense talent, but wait until he pulls his monthy "let's half ass this game" stunt. From what I've seen he's all talent, no heart.

Completely insane to make this man the highest played defensive player ever. Beyond idiotic.
