I have an old friend in NYC who is a pretty big book there...He says his volume is over 2 million weekly...That seems hard to believe....He also tells me that the vast majority of sportsbettors lose their shirt over the long haul...He has hundreds of big accounts and few are ahead at the end of a year....If this is all true how come I am not a bookmaker? I suppose everyone is betting recreationally and doesnt really care if they lose as they want the action....that is what he tells me....I was going to bet with him but he wont take my bets since he is a friend...

do you have a sizeable enough BR to pay others because you must pay out promptly with no bull crap, no matter who owes you and why, nobody wants to hear that as it is not there problem.

Booking is gambling in reverse and you better be MENTALLY prepared for huge flucuations, do you have the stomach for it?

Also be prepared to be CONSTANTLY chasing others to pay you and you will get stiffed. Can you handle that?

Dont forget you are a breaking the law. Are you prepared to face and deal with the ramafactions if and when you get caught?

The first year or so getting players will be tough as you most likely will everyone else's rejects who are looking for a new book and a fresh start. Be expecting that.

What about answering phone calls 7 days a week and having to meet guys for money at their convienence.

Like everything in life you have to realize that it is probably not as good as it looks and vice versa.

I would rather stay on this side of the fence where I have almost full and total control of how I do this.

You could just take bets from the people you know and start with 3 or 4 of your buddies or their buddies. Just try and get a few $50-$100 bettors. Then you go from there. no need for offices, tapes, computers. Just be around your cel phone sep-feb. There are probably 3-4 numbers in your cel now you could start with. Any referals from people you know well, just collect from the person you know and give a kick back. Now you will have "subagents" Don't forget to offer horses. Free Money for a book.

Good Luck

Can attest to that quote.

Like the Beatles song

You never give me your money
You only give me your situation

Gamblers are dirt bags, and they start off so sincere.

Sharps my ass.

I got some major legal heat when I was a teenager. i used to book high school and college kids $25-$100 bets, I would never even think about doing it again. What i did though that still makes me great money after closing up shop wasset up a website and give information about what the best and safest online sports books were. I did this back in the late 90's. I promoted it almost entirely by word of mouth and referrals. It got the the point at bars people would ask for a good bookie and people would say do you have internet? If they said yes they would say: (the website I owned.com). I was really involved in the local scene if people had a slow pay, miss grade, or even rules question or w/e they would call me up or find me in person and i would help them.
At WWTS i had 250 referrals all from warm market, had about 80-100 at at a bunch of others.
I still make money from a few of the sites like Bodog but sold the site a few years ago at a nice price to raise some quick money to get into marketing online poker. I kept all my affiliate accounts just sold the site and started new ones.
If you have a local market who gambles this is much easier way to make cash then actually set up in the business.
