I watched this kid play in high school and he was phenomenal. He played for a small private school(Heritage Hall) so OU and Ok St were afraid to offer him a scholarship. When Mike Leach took the Texas Tech job he offered Welker the last scholarship he had. The kid was an unbelievable kicker in high school and I think he might have kicked an extra point or field goal for the Dolphins.

No they got Welker for a outright trade 2nd and 7th.He is not under contract yet but is now restricted.

For those counting at home.

The Pats have signed Adlius Thomas,Wes Welker,Kyle Brady, Sammy Morris. They also have two first round draft picks.
..and still plenty of cash under the cap.
This from a team that was one first down from going to the Super Bowl with basically entire team with the flu and linebackers making their first NFL start ever.

also...since they traded 2 draft picks, rather than just the one...

its beleived that the initial contract reports, will be less. I would imagine the contract would be similar to David Givens' contract w/ Tennessee, than Branch...and arguably Walker brings more to the table.

As for Branch (who is the best receiver EVER according to all Pats' nay sayers, haha) got a shit load of money from Seattle, in excess of $6 mill/season...lost a 1st round pick, and basically let Steve Hutchinson (best guard in league) go to free agency to sign receiver thats never been a top 15 receiver, LOL.

pfff...please dont bring Seattle's personel moves in a discussion about the Patriots' moves.

I LOVE IT!

Not sure what the Pats ST needs are, but he'll help out there as well from what I've seen of him.

Nice little pickup I must say.

What people don't realize that the Patriots have just gone through "lean" years.

Patrick Willis

Would fit nicely here.

If I were Pats I'd try to trade 5 picks for Calvin Johnson, otherwise "settle" for a late 1st WR, and use the early first on a DB.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Patriots have signed WR Wes Welker, acquired via trade Monday, to a five-year, $18.1 million contract.
The former undrafted free agent will reportedly get $9 million guaranteed.

Makes me feel better about losing the 2nd round draft pick...about $3.5 mill/season...gotta love it!
