well the big show starts Thursday at the XCEL Energy stadium.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
UPSETS UPSETS UPSETS were the pattern this weekend as top seeds everywhere were taken down. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Odds to win (for the first time in this tourney they seeded the top 4 teams then had a random draw to fill out the brackets and set up the matchups)...<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
<?xml:namespace prefix = u1 /><u1:City u2:st="on"><u1:place u2:st="on">Edina</u1:place></u1:City> (#1 overall seed) +120 young team loaded a number one region seed that took care of business and looked good doing it The general crowd hates this team as this is a dynasty team from the 60's 70's and 80's, and early 90's. Been down for a few years but now are back. This is the elite "rich" family community in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Minnesota</st1:place></st1:State>. But they play great hockey.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
<u1:City u2:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Roseau</st1:City></u1:City> (#2 overall seed) +280 beat arch rival and the number two ranked team in the state <u1:City u2:st="on"><u1:place u2:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Moorhead</st1:place></st1:City></u1:place></u1:City> 1-0 to get back into the tourney. Everybody’s darling as this small small small school never did drop down to Class A; Rich tradition one of the reasons the tourney is as big as it is, home of the Broten family. Anyway when the tourney went to 2 classes they stayed with the big schools. I dont know much about this team but if they beat <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Moorhead</st1:place></st1:City> they are very legitimate .<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Hill Murray (#3 overall seed) +500 have been to more MN hockey tourneys than any other program since 1975 (the year they let private schools in). Only private school to make the big dance this year. The general crowd hates this team even more than <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Edina</st1:place></st1:City> but the HM backers are a huge force as well. Was a number 2 seed in the best region in the state and made it out. Good goaltending, good top 2 lines but not as skilled as some past Hill teams.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
<u1:City u2:st="on"><u1:place u2:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Blaine</st1:place></st1:City></u1:place></u1:City> (#4 seed). +750 Number one seed in a mediocre section. took care of business to land a repeat trip to state. Due to some gigantic upsets they find themselves a number 4 seed. Balanced team with no true superstars. Could be a sleeper.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
<u1:City u2:st="on"><u1:place u2:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Burnsville</st1:place></st1:City></u1:place></u1:City> +1100 (5-8th seed they did not seed the 5th - 8th they gave them a random draw to the 4 seeded teams). Pulled off what some are calling the biggest upset in High School hockey in 20 years by beating unbeaten and #1 ranked Holy Angles 6-4 to advance to state. Very good top line, and getting great goaltending. First trip for <u1:City u2:st="on"><u1:place u2:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Burnsville</st1:place></st1:City></u1:place></u1:City> a power in the 80's in many years. Have to fear a let down however. funny they had to chage from an Indian Brave MAscot years ago.
<o:p></o:p>
<u1:City u2:st="on"><u1:place u2:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Grand Rapids</st1:place></st1:City></u1:place></u1:City> +1200 (5th - 8th seed). Last year runner up led by the great Patrick White. Dangerous team but draws top seed <u1:City u2:st="on"><u1:place u2:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Edina</st1:place></st1:City></u1:place></u1:City> in opening round. Would likely have to upset 3 teams in a row to win it all. The Crowd loves this team. funny years back they also had to chage from an Indian Mascot as well. <o:p></o:p>

Woodbury +2200 (5th - 8th seed). first time trip, beat defending champ Cretin in overtime to advance. Looks like a trip to the consolation racket but a nice job by this group and this community is getting its hockey program in shape. Recently some first time programs have actually won state so tab action on this one.
<o:p></o:p>
Rochester Century +12500 (5th - 8th seed). best team in section 1 but that section in <u1:place u2:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Southern Minnesota</st1:place></u1:place> does not have any good teams. This is a cup of coffee trip only. <o:p></o:p>

3 of the four so called top seeds went down today.

Roseau did win and looked classy in doing so 7-2. they are the clear favorite to take this title. but who knows!

rochester Century in a huge upset beat Hill Murray in Overtime 6-5
to send Southern MN in a frenzy, first win by that section in a first round fame in 15 years!

The evening say Grand RApids outplay top seed Edian 3-1

and in the last game

unseeded burnsville beat Blaine 4-2 to reach the semis

lines for friday

roseau - 3 1/2 8 under -120

Grand Rapids - 1/2 -160 7 under -120

I'm shocked, the refs haven't had it in for those northern teams so far!

Those boys up there on the farms simply know how to play the game.:youmad:

semis are over and we will have an all Northern State final

Roseau looked solid but not spectacular like they did on Thursday with a 3-1 win over outmatched Rochester Century.

Grand Rapids in the tourney game of the decade took a 3-0 lead mostly thanks to superstar senior Pat White (they also had two more goals disallowed). They dominated and burnsville had only 10 shots on net with 4:30 to go in the game.

Then burnsville broke through with not one not two but three goals and tied it with 30 seconds left. Just amazing emotional swings.

Then in OT that guy PAt While made a great rush and a better pass to find a teammate in the slot who buried a shot to win it afterall for Grand Rapids. Only in MN high school hockey do you see such emotion and drama......

Roseau - 1/2 -180 total 6 over -115
