Wonder how the Angels feel about the ridiculous deal they gave Gary Matthews Jr. now?

 This has disaster written all over it...

This is the same guy who
before last year played for 7 different teams in 7 years,
career BA of .263,
never driven in 80 runs ever,
has ONE season with more than 121 base hits ,
career OBP of just .336
strikes out almost twice as often as he walks.

And now the steroid scandal , how much did he get paid again:WTF: 50 MILLION

Be interesting to see if the contract would stand up, who knows what clauses the Angels had in it regards to steroid use etc..?

According to SI.com, Angels officials have been examining the language in Gary Matthews Jr.'s contract to gauge their chances for recourse should the allegations of him ordering and receiving HGH prove correct.

Good luck. Matthews reportedly received the HGH in Aug. 2004, before the drug was even banned by MLB. The Angels are almost certainly going to be stuck with Matthews's deal. Even before the allegations, it was a contract it looked like they'd regret within a year or two. Mar. 5 - 6:56 pm et

by far the most rediculous contract of the off season, regardless of the drug allegations...i would even take the Gil Meche contract over Matthews Jr.

Angels should be investigating the player evaluations...rather than the contract...good god, haha

Very true...even before this scandal this had disaster written all over it, I remember Matthews very well around here trying to put it together but never being able to....this just goes to show you what the drugs will do , another prime example.

It would be interesting to see how much the Angels would have offered Babe Ruth if he were around nowadays.

Yeah...this is a total mess. Matthews was barely an MLB player and it just shows what this shit can do.

There's been talk in Chicago about Mark DeRosa, who just happened to be Matthews' teammate in Texas. He is coming off a career year too.
