The Cubs are moving him tp play centerfield for a team expected to contend....I don't like the move.

The Cubs look like a team with a bunch overpaid 'what ifs' to me.

I hope they do well though, it's always nice to see Wrigley have meaningful games to bet on all year with so many day games.

Im 50/50 on this working. Granted he only has one year of being in the outfield for one year but those winds in the Chi is no joke plus being in center is going to test his leadership skills.

Several times this spring Piniella has had to get on his team because of their defense...

I think he is going to start the season with 12 pitchers...and that leaves 4 guys for the OF:

Soriano, Murton, Jones and Floyd.

Now DeRosa can play RF and Theriot has been playing some OF as well.

But those are the main 4 guys.

So to answer your question...

Yes he will last, and he has to because Pie did not overwhelm the Cubs and take the CF job...and I think they want him in Peoria...

So seeing as Jacque Jones has a hard enough time throwing the ball in from RF...no way he could play CF...

Floyd's legs and ankles must be held together with tape and screws...so no way Mr. Immobile can play CF. Murton is LF only.

Soriano has the speed to get to balls in CF...and a decent arm...just hope he does not slam into the Under Armour signs that will cover the green doors this season.

He is their best option at this point...he will make some errors with those Wrigley winds swirling around...but he should be able to an adequate job.

BTW...

Cubs opening day OF vs World Champs OF

LF Murton or Floyd, CF Soriano, RF Jones

LF Duncan, CF Taguchi, RF Spiezio

I will take that Cub OF.

I more worry about the lack of leadoff hitter, no solid closer, and Prior's head than Soriano in CF.

I will be very surprised if Prior is in the rotation before July...they still have options on him, but I think he will start off with an extended spring before they send him to Peoria for a while...

Miller has beaten him out...his velocity has returned...and if he makes it all the way back...that is a hell of a 5th starter in that rotation...

I am still trying to decipher what is going on w/Marquis...if this is a big tease...or if Larry really did help him with his mechanics...Marquis has looked really good this spring...much better than I expected.

I'm a very jaded Cub fan, so its wait-and-see for me. I would like to see how Lilly does in the NL though. Still taking Houston as a longshot to win the division.

I think Lilly will have a solid 1H of the season...being a direct benefit of the league switch and hitters' lack of familiarity...I expect a real fast start from Lilly...could see him on the All-Star team...

Also...hard to find another pitcher on the Cubs that has thrown the ball better than he has in AZ...

I did not like what the 'Stros did to their rotation...

Jennings splits in that tin-box are sick...

However, CLee should have monster home-splits this season...

My longshot club is Milwaukee....

I really like the makeup of that team, and they have a solid manager. Sheets, Capuano and Suppan are as solid as any 1-2-3 in the central.

I do not see the Cardinals winning the Central this year.

A good litmus test for the Cubs season is how many runs they score on opening day at Cincy this year...:ohno:

They put up those football totals and then their season has been crap...

I hope Zambrano beats the Reds 3-1 this year.
