I suppose the answer is yes. Damn Tourney time!

My company put out a memo last month about them knowing what sites you go to at work and that they can see where you've been so anything you shouldnt be on you shouldnt go to.

Does anyone know if they can see that I am making bets from work (I know they can see the website)?

No one has said anything to me yet, but will they give me a warning or fire my ass? I've been viewing gambling sites for the last 6 years or so but only place bets during this time of year. Problem is we have new bosses this year, that is why the memo has startled me a bit.

There's always next year, like in 75, 90-93, 99 &

Absolutly.
It's conflict of interest, not to mention a few other things.
I'm an Operations Analyst, most (if not all) companies have network auditors that monitor each and every URL employees visit.
They get a log in report form.
You might be able to skate if you use a public domain desktop, but if you have to use a Novell logon (personal account) you are good as nailed.

If you are a good employee, no previous incidents, good attendence record etc. etc. you'll get a reprimand.
If they want to make an example out of you for others, they'll do that.

Be careful with e-mails also, and just because you delete something, doesn't mean it's deleted, it hangs around the hard drive.

I agree with this uaseyour cell on your break. Isv placing whatever amount of moneyv on the games worth potentially getting fired over? Another hurdle is what if you lose and get fired? I would get a cell phone with internet access log in and place my bets from there if you have the means. This also goes for college students who gamble in school libraries or in computer labs as well. Getting caught it just isn't worth it to place a bet and yes I am a working college student and I have been tempted a few times to bet but, then I realize was the $200 bet I will place worth getting caught GL but, please think before you bet.

Most people don't realize how much money it costs to use internet services on a cell phone either.

You work in a pressroom?
There is no way they can firewall anything permanantly.

I'm in a corportate data center, they won't firewall anything, but won't allow cookies to certain areas.

I have a related question for you computer guys. Every day before I leave work I clear my history, delete files and cookies. When I come back in the next day the history is still empty, but when I start typing in www.therx.com it auto-completes it. Why is the RX sticking around in my computer's memory of visited sites?

I got busted at my company for having poker/gambling software on my machine. At some point, one of my downloads had spyware on it and our IT team detected it. All they did was send me an e-mail asking me to de-install everything and did not copy my boss or anyone else on it.

In the case described, I'd be really careful if they are issuing a warning the way they did. Maybe you can chat it up with someone in IT if you have a friend in that department and see what the focus of their concern is. Maybe if they say it is more about porn or something else, you might still get away with the gambling sites.

Buy a laptop and get a broadband card. Then you don't have to worry about it.

Well, the problem then becomes when you're asked why you're bring in your own laptop. Companies don't necessarily like it when you're doing your work on their dime.
