You Must Have this one in all of your Derby exotics
Nobiz Like Shobiz
The talented Albert the Great colt registered a 1 1/2-length victory in his seasonal bow despite changing leads late and racing greenly in the stretch of the $150,000 Holy Bull Stakes (G3).
Leaving the turn, Nobiz Like Shobiz powered away from 2006 Champagne Stakes (G1) winner Scat Daddy, who was already called upon for his run, and remained clear under jockey Cornelio Velasquez despite looking out at the grandstand in the stretch.
“He ran second to a monster today,” said trainer Bill Kaplan, who conditions stakes winner Drums of Thunder for owners Ione and Herbert Elkins. “I’m tickled to death with the way he ran against these good horses. I don’t know what I’m going to do next, given that horse [Nobiz Like Shobiz] is the early Derby favorite.”
Nobiz Like Shobiz won two of three starts as a juvenile and capped his season with a victory in the Remsen Stakes (G2). He avenged his lone defeat, a second-place finish to Scat Daddy in the Champagne.
Bred in Kentucky, Nobiz Like Shobiz is out of the Storm Cat mare Nightstorm.
