Adlius Thomas
Wes Welker
Donte Stallworth

It must totally suck being fans of other NFL teams.

Not ready to rest quite yet, the Patriots [team stats] continued their offseason assault today by making former Eagles wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth their latest acquisition.
<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0><TBODY><TR><TD height=8><SPACER type="block" height="8" width="8"></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> Stallworth, 26, has played five years in the league, his first four with the New Orleans Saints. His best season was in 2005 when he caught 70 passes for 945 yards and seven touchdowns. Last season, he played 12 games for the Eagles while being troubled with a sore hamstring. He caught 38 balls for 725 yards - a 19.1 yards-per-catch average. He scored five touchdowns. Stallworth has averaged more than 15 yards per catch for his career.
<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0><TBODY><TR><TD height=8><SPACER type="block" height="8" width="8"></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> The news was first reported by ESPN.com, which said that the Pats and Stallworth have agreed on a six-year contract believed to be worth around $30 million, with close to $12 million guaranteed.
<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0><TBODY><TR><TD height=8><SPACER type="block" height="8" width="8"></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> A threat on the outside, Stallworth certainly could fill the Pats’ No. 1 receiver needs. Earlier this offseason, the Pats traded for Wes Welker, who previously has done his best work out of the slot.
<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0><TBODY><TR><TD height=8><SPACER type="block" height="8" width="8"></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> One item worth watching is a report from The Philadelphia Inquirer which said that Stallworth is in the NFL’s substance abuse program. If accurate, that means that Stallworth potentially has one or two strikes against him and another failed test could mean a substantial suspension.
<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0><TBODY><TR><TD height=8><SPACER type="block" height="8" width="8"></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> Stallworth was also reportedly considering Miami, Tennessee, San Francisco and Philadelphia. But the Pats apparently swayed him and now he joins Welker, Jabar Gaffney [stats], Reche Caldwell [stats] and a rehabilitating Chad Jackson in a much improved wide receiver corps.
