there are way more double-digit upsets in the nit than there are in the ncaas. of course, these nit upsets barely got a 30-second highlight on espn whereas if a double-digit dog won in the ncaas, it would be lead highlight for sportscenter's opener.

betting nit totals can be tricky. it is almost an over-or-pass kind of thing. so many teams have zero defensive intensity and it leads to a plethora of overs. the problem is that you dont always get the fouling and free throws in the nit that you get in the ncaas. coaches tend to call the dogs off and dont go all-out for a win by fouling if theyre down 8 with 0:30. lots of games end more traditionally, without a ton of foul fests. having said that, a LOT of nit games fly over the total sometimes as early as 5:00 left in the game. but you dont get a lot of 'backdoor overs' (i.e. 17 pts in the final 2:00 like in some conference tourneys, ncaa gms, or even reg season). then again, a lot of times the totals are a foregone conclusion and you dont even need the fouls.

In many early round NIT games (i.e. Drexel), if you can weed out some info from local papers about the mindset of a team, find some coaches who will admit that it's been tough to get team motivated etc ...it can be profitable. It's figuring out if Drexel (as an example) is pissed cause they didn't get in or apathetic cause they don't care any more.

In the Big Dance, they all care... but obviously there are other angles to shoot for.

It seems like the lines in a very large % of the 1st round of the NCAAA Tourney are, as usual, dead spot on (more like the NFL). Not necessarily so with the NIT, it's just finding that gem and hammering it silly.
