would you rather win the NIT or lose in the first round of the dance?

watching that WV game tonight those fans are estatic. You get to play on your home court and extend your season and fly a banner the following year. I am really pulling for this Mountaineer team (go figure). The fans and the program have shown alot of support for this team and do not really feel snubbed at all. They have had great recent success in the NCAA tourney (great eight and sweet sixteen) but they just want to win...wherever.

They are in the final four and I would love to see them win it all and get the coveted title of being the 66th best team in all the land. Even the Pope loves these hicks from Morgantown

Air Force is the same way. The place goes insane, or least as insane as 5,834 people can get ("official" capacity which they exceed by a number that the fire marshall probably won't let out).

I'd much rather make it to the dance, even if it's only a by-product of winning the conference tournament. To non-high-majors, that moment you know you're going dancing has to be the best moment of your life (for coaches and players).

I guess if I were a 1-5 seed and lost in the first round, I'd rather have gone to and won the NIT

Matt, since you are from Indiana I figure you would know if this is true. I remember a friend telling me that the Indianapolis Colts have banners hung that say "AFC FINALIST" simply because they made the AFC Championship game? :missingte:missingte

The NIT is still a big tournament. The wins count as wins as far as coaching records. Don't be hating on NCAA JV

If it was me, I'm winning the NIT. But the thing about that is that the level of expectation for my program is to take it to the next level and make it to the big dance.

Some programs that exit in the first round are questioned if they should have even made it to the NCAA's (See: Arkansas) and have very little to build on the next year.

If i had a young team then i'd say NIT, but if i had a bunch of seniors then gotta choose Big Dance. Theres no substitute for taking your seniors to the NCAA's.

with such a young team people were happy with an nit bid....picked 12 in league standings before the year wvu was in serious rebuilding mode....next time they play there will be only 12 teams left playing.....pretty impressive for a team that was supposed to rebuild.....if the game was earlier the place would have sold out....

The NCAA tournament is exciting and full of hype, the NIT is neither. I HATE it when people say that the NIT champion is the "66th best team" though, and people say it all the time.

My team is NC State and we were also picked to finish 12th in our conference in preseason. (Of course, there are only 12 teams in the ACC). It was fun to play a few games in the NIT because we were playing our best bball in the postseason, and it really builds some hope for the future. Congrats to you two WVU fans, that was a fun game.
