Good news for U.S NETeller customers

British online payment processor NETeller has announced it has signed agreements with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Sothern District of New York (USAO) and the consulting group Navigant Consulting which outlines plans and a timeline to return funds to its U.S customers.

With the signing of the new agreement, NETeller expect to announce a plan to distribute the funds to their U.S customers within 75 days.

"Per the agreements, the group anticipates that within the next 75 days it will announce a plan by which the funds will be distributed to U.S. customers," NETeller said in a statement.

Though the freezing of the funds caused much dissatisfaction amongst its U.S customers, NETeller claimed they were always working hard to rectify the problem.

"We continue to be committed to returning funds to our US customers and working with the US Attorney's Office," said Ron Martin, NETeller Group President and CEO.

"Progress, while not always visible to the outside observer, has been steady and these agreements mark a milestone in the process."

Following the arrest of NETeller’s Canadian founders, Stephen Lawrence and John Lefebvre, U.S prosecutors seized funds relating to their U.S customers as part of evidence in the charge of the handling billions of dollars in 'illegal' gambling proceeds brought against the company.

Three days after the arrest on January 18, NETeller quit the U.S market, wiping out 65 per cent of its business.

So basically, so long as Neteller agrees to a big enough extorted ransom, it will not be indicted and the money launderers will not be tried... Now Navigant Consulting better get in there at Neteller's expense to decide how big this ransom should be.

Where the hell is the UK government????

If the UK government arrested Citibank's founders for whatever and then demanded a multimillion dollar ransom you better believe it would be front page news here.

The Isle of Man (Manx: 'Ellan Vannin') or Mann (Manx: 'Mannin'), is an island located in the Irish Sea at the geographical centre of the British Isles. Although not part of the United Kingdom, it is a Crown dependency.

Has zero to do with the UK Government I'm afraid. The Manx have their own parliament, leader etc

Probably. But it would have cost them more in Tax. IoM is a tax haven in relative terms to the UK.

so now that we have digested the good news I guess it is easier to swallow the announcement that Canada and Turkey are out for neteller.

Who in Canada put pressure on neteller to cause this?

If the US tells Canada to jump--they only ask when and how high?

Pretty much.

Understand we are an export economy, with over 70% going straight to the US.

When Canada was considering decriminalising marijuana a few years ago, we were warned by Washington that they would make life hell at the border. With six billion a day in trade, largely to our net capital benefit, what could we do?

The US gov't throws its weight around constantly. Canada is only one of their pawns.

I'm Canadian. Canada's pretty much the U.S.'s whipping boy. The U.S. pats Canada on the head, and Canada eats it up. The U.S. pretty much owns Canada's economy. Canada trades mostly with U.S. and that's it. I think most American's joke about Canada being the U.S.'s distant cousin nobody talks or cares about might actually be true.

I hear Neteller is shutting down on Canada too. Effective immediately there instcash is done today. In early April they are done all together with gaming shops through Canada customers. Sounds like a repeat of US.
