PS3 will be this generation's dreamcast imo.
meaning what? LOL I'm not sure what was good/bad about dreamcast..
Also, i know there was that mania about getting PS3's when they came out back in Nov, can they be purchased easy now at a best buy or walmart, or is it still tough to find one.

dreamcast only declined due to the easy piracy and sega's announcement that it's their last console.

If you're into sports games, 360 is the way to go. If you want final fantasy and the other weird capcom games, go ps3. If you want the best of both worlds, get a decent pc gaming machine.

"best of both worlds" -- try finding a baseball game for the PC. There's been nothing since High Heat (excluding the management games -- Out of The Park, Baseball Mogul etc)..

Otherwise I agree, I use the 360 for sports games, and the PC for strategy (Civ, AOE, Supreme commander, Supreme ruler etc, Football Manager).

I think the PS3 squeezed too much technology into the box for a games console. It's been outsold by the (outdated) Gameboy Advance in the last 3 months for goodness sake. It doesn't have enough to reach critical mass imo.

Well the way I see it is this:

Xbox 360, has a lot of fun games to play, costs less, has already established an online community.

PS3, Has all hopes on the future. Way superior in terms of capability, but doesnt even have game rated 9/10 yet.

As it stands now, no brainer = xbox360. In the future, who knows. Maybe PS3 will pan out.

wii is interesting, don't know much about. do you have to play all those games virtually or do they have a separate remote control.

why not get a Wii

off the chains apparently
Wii is good for a guy like you probably. It is a LOT of fun. IF you get a lot of people over to play, it's a BLAST. I have done this a ton with a lot of different machines in the past , BUT its not the same anymore.

Wii by yourself is like having your own table tennis. And being the only one sitting next to it, and SAYING to yourself "why I am not having a GOOD TIME?!".

I have an X-Box AND a PS2. I'm no fanboy who likes to bash one side or the other. I don't care about this Sony vs Microsoft bulls**t that usually happens when people discuss the 360 or the ps3. So basically, I'm totally objective. The answer to your question is easy if you have an HDTV. If you do, you go with the PS3. Why? Way more value for the money. A blu-ray player costs hundreds of dollars. PS3's play blu-ray movies. Sooner or later, everyone's gonna want to watch hdtv movies and not dvds. It's gonna happen guaranteed. Game selection right now goes to the 360, but it's been around for more than a year.

I'm waiting for the PS3 price to go down, still way too expensive for me. Not gonna get a 360 either until the price goes down. I'll probably get a PS3 FIRST and then later on a 360. I watch a lot of movies, so a PS3 for me is the best of both worlds and way more value. Games and movies. A better long term investment.

But you're assuming Blu-ray wins the war over HD-DVD etc.. which is no guarantee. It could well go the way of Betamax.

I'm assuming nothing. HD-DVD doesn't matter at all. You could wait for several years for a format to be decided. Enough movies are being released in Blu-ray to make the PS3 worthwhile. Even if HD-DVD muddies the water some. I'm not waiting for a format to be decided. Blu-ray movies are already available for rent, and that's good enough for me. If you want to wait several years for a HD movie format to be decided, that's you're call. Something tells me that Blu-ray will win the format wars and that it's going to take several years. I'm not waiting till the format war is decided. If nothing else, I can still play PS3 games!

Yes, but.

The PS3 has NO GREAT games

Hell, I was just reading a 4 page thread at gamespot 2 days ago titled "What will be the first PS3 game that rates 9?" And the popular guess was 'Oblivion' Which has been out on the PC for about a year and is already on the XBOX360.

I see netflix, giving me the blu-ray option on my rental choices more and more these days. So my guess is an affordable stand alone blu-ray player is right around the corner.
