Cardinals manager arrested for DUI in Florida
ESPN.com news services

JUPITER, Fla. -- St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa was arrested early Thursday and charged with misdemeanor DUI after he was found asleep at the wheel in his running SUV at a green light.

Tony La Russa was hit with a DUI charge 10 days before his Cardinals begin defense of their World Series title.

La Russa's SUV was stopped at a light that, according to police, went through two cycles of green. A driver behind La Russa had to go around his vehicle, police said.

Police found La Russa slumped over in the driver's seat of the running SUV. The manager of the world champion Cardinals had his foot on the brake and did not respond to knocks on the window, police said. He finally woke up and parked the car.

Police said they noticed the smell of alcohol on his breath, and a field sobriety test was conducted.

The 62-year-old LaRussa was sent to the Palm Beach County Jail around 4 a.m., according to the jail's Web site. La Russa provided breath samples, which measured at a .093 blood alcohol level, police said. The legal limit for drivers in Florida is 0.08.

Police didn't immediately return a phone message from The Associated Press seeking comment.

The Cardinals play spring training games at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter.

.093 is like being buzzed. He may have been dead ass tired but having .093 blood level is not what I would consider being drunk. I think after taking Nyquil you are something like .07 and after 2 beers you are at .08 or something like that.

The guys getting arrested are normally 2 or 3 times the limit. You normally see them getting arrested for .20 or higher.

I can't stand LaRussa in the first place, but falling asleep with .093 is even more a reason to hate the little snatch. How do you fall asleep yet keep your car from moving if it isn't in park?

that is barely over the limit... .08 is like 4 beers in an hour for him... so that means he had 5... what a *****... how do you pass out from 5 beers?

How can anyone be not just asleep, but completely passed out, with a barely-drunk BAC of a measly .093? He must be as lightweight a drinker as he is a manager.

He blew a .093 at the police station, not when he was arrested in his car. There's no telling how much time elapsed from when he was arrested to when he was given the test. So, my guess is he was much more drunk than a .093, probably around .13-.15, and by the time he got tested, it had gone down.

I would be emabarrased to be passed out slumped behind the wheel of my car and only blow a .093

He should challenge the reading saying he had to have a higher BAC just to save face.

He will get special treatment. In my town we have a cop who I know has been pulled over at least 5 times for dui and was always driven home.

Now a 6th time and his fellow worker took him in and got him arrested, yet he gets to patrol on an occupational.

Weird. I did get a break several years back and will never drive like that again.

Were you guys being sarcastic about .093 being high? It's hard to tell over the internet.....

.02 = 1 beer, so that was equal to about 4.5 beers which is a light buzz at best..even the state of FL has found that 4 beers (.08) is just borderline to be O.K to drive
