Congrats Max, but, the way these crooks work you must have a line of credit and use it/pay it off in order to keep a good credit number? Atleast that's what I've always been told:money8:

That is OUTSTANDING!

I will be in the same position in Mid 2008, already budgeted, just a matter of patience now. The math is already done.

No dont have a line of credit. I was fortunate enough to have a good trip that last time I was in Vegas and used the extra $$ to pay off 2 of the credit cards in one lump sum and finished the last monthly payment on the other today. I had 2 Capitol one cards and 1st premier credit card ....it was the 1st Premier that turned down my line increase. They just sent me another offer last month knowing that I was almost paid off and I about ripped into them since they are the reason I gave up on Credit Crads. I still receive 5-10 offers a month and call each one and tell them to take their cards and shove them....maybe one day they will get the point.

I've always paid off my credit card the month of the bill I put it on there.. I don't really use them as financing and paying interest. The only time I do is on interest free cards.

BUT, congrats to you for now being debt free! The hard part will be stayin that way

Max,
Congrats - but now it's time to turn the tables on those b*stards.

Get a no-annual fee CC with cashback or loyalty rewards and pay all your day-to-day expenses/bills. Make sure you pay it off completely each month.

Ironically, this type of customer (obviously) is of little profit to the banks and they coin the customer by the term "deadbeat." LOL.

WVU,
Ditto. I'd like to thank all the books with slow lines for paying off my debts :)

Great job! I have had my issues in the past with credit card debt and it can be brutal to deal with. That feeling when the debt is finally gone rules!

It is great to be debt free, but everyone should build/not erase their credit.

YOu never know when you'll need it and it sure is nice to be able to buy a car, house, etc...

If anyone is not good with cards, I recommend getting 2 or 3, making a charge on each and then cutting them up. A year later, call them in lost and get new ones. Make another charge, cut them up. Repeat. Some people can't not use credit cards, but having no credit is not a good way to be.

I will be 40 next year...I have my own company (Family Owned) here in Houston so I dont think I will ever have a problem getting a house or a car. I have owned 3 different Lexus's in the last 9 years...so a car is not a problem since every few years I get a new one. I just a bought a house on the lake 2 years ago and plan on having the house till the day I die.

I dont suggest this move for someone that is young but at my age I can afford to have no CC and have no problems

Congrats on clearing the debt, but don't plan on renting a car without a CC.

I don't have a credit card. I don't want huge debt so I just use my debit card and that is it. But it did screw me yesterday when I tried to rent a car to drive to Atlantic City in. They told me that you can't take a car out of state when paying with a debit card. That really sucked.

Nice, which airline(s)? I currently have the AMEX/Delta Skymiles card. I have to pay a yearly fee. It made for us because the majority of our travels are international, but wouldn't recommend the fee-based cards for occasional domestic travelers.
