The guy won at UMass and has really turned around Memphis. His up tempo style would fit in well with the Kentucky program. If I was the AD he'd be first on my list

The NCAA took that Final Four appearance away because of some NCAA violations. That is why Rev Al says he doesn't see it in the record book.

glad someone understood the joke...

pretty scary how Coach Cal. keeps comparing his team's run to the one at UMASS...he mentions it over and over again...how he forgets how that ended for the program.

Why would he leave Memphis? The guy is an automatic In to the NCAA's, gets all sorts of stud players from around america, and plays in a beautiful new NBA Arena. Whats not to love for him there?

Pretty nice when Calipari can just roll through that league. Can't blame him for staying, if they pay.

It's all about egos for these guys. Why did Rick Pitino leave Kentucky? I know the Celtic's gave him a ton of money but it was because of his ego. He loved being hunted by all the NBA teams every year and he thought he could turn the Celtic franchise around. Unfortunately he made it worse.
Kentucky is one of the top programs (if not the top) in college basketball. Memphis does not even come close to what Kentucky offers. If you can handle the enormous pressure to suceed there is no better place to coach than Kentucky. Mark my words. If he is offered the Kentucky job he will accept it.

If you can't control the boosters at UMass, you don't need to be anywhere close to Ky...

His agent contacted Ky awhile back & professed his interest...

Not sure if he'll make Ky's list though...

Donovan & Gillespie appear to be 1/2...

Kentucky is a much higher profile program. Besides, we want him to leave Memphis. If he does, that may very well open back up the chance for Illinois to get Derrick Rose for next year. Rumor is Rose would ask to be released from his letter of intent to Memphis and Illinois may be at the top of his list.

they will .. and he will say no...

I agree he will say no...he is treated like a god in Memphis. Esay lock every year to win the CUSA and get the auto bid into the Touney. He would be a fool to leave ...

I would think KY would offer him a better deal than he is getting in Memphis. Would be hard for him to pass up a top level program like KY in order to stay at Memphis. But some college foots coaches passed up the bigger programs to stay at the smaller schools, maybe he would do the same. But I would take him over Gilespe anyday

Derrick Rose (Chicago Simeon) said he wants out of his Memphis commitment if Calipari leaves. In today's Chicago Sun-Times.

John Calipari facetiously says he just rolls the balls out at practice, but the Atlanta Tipoff Club has recognized him for doing much more than that.

On Thursday, the Atlanta Tipoff Club named Coach Cal one of four finalists for the Naismith College Coach of the Year. Calipari was nominated alongside Jim Boeheim (Syracuse), Frank Haith (Missouri) and Bill Self (Kansas).

Voted this year’s Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year by the league coaches and the Associated Press, Calipari led the Wildcats to a 32-2 mark heading in the NCAA Tournament, a 16-0 mark in regular-season SEC play, as well as the nation’s top ranking for eight straight weeks, the longest streak at Kentucky since the 1977-78 season.

Replacing three NBA Draft picks (four if you count Enes Kanter), Coach Cal hauled in the nation’s top recruiting class for a third straight year, meshed it together with Terrence Jones, Doron Lamb and Darius Miller, and led the team the NCAA Tournament’s No. 1 overall seed.

Calipari also broke the UK record for consecutive home wins in Rupp Arena this year, extending his streak to 51 straight games.

Coach Cal has won the award twice, in 2008 and 1996. If he wins it again this season, he will become only the second coach to earn the honor three times, joining Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski.

Heading into Thursday night’s second-round NCAA Tournament game against Western Kentucky, Calipari owns a 541-154 (77.8 winning percentage) career on-court record. He’s one of only two coaches to lead three different teams to the Final Four, and he’s leading his 14th team to the NCAA Tournament this season.

The finalist were determined by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s National Voting Academy, comprised of leading basketball journalists, coaches and administrators from around the country. The academy based its criteria on coaching performances this season.

The winner will be announced at the Naismith Awards Welcome Brunch on April 1 in New Orleans.
