I have thought about this over the years, the NIT championship team is easily a "Top 25-30ish" team in many aspects...

Where would you rank the NIT Champ?

Please don't tell me 66th :ohno:

this is a good question. this year, all the nit final four teams are high seeds. and its been a pretty good nit overall. a handful of very good games. part of me wants to say the nit winner should be somewhere in the #23, 24, or 25 range. the only problem is that the ncaa is all neutral site games whereas the nit is basically an extended regular season for the high seeds. they get a handful of games at home, while the lower seeded oppositions normally have to criss-cross the country on some short rest. obviously home games are a must in the NIT because nobody would show up for neutral site early round games. but it does make it tough to gauge where the winner should be ranked in the final poll.

depends on who wins it. If WVU wins it I would put them about 20th.

id have no problem with wvirginia, air force, or clemson being ranked if they won the tourney. if im not mistaken, all three were ranked at some point this season (definitely air force and clemson. and i believe early on wvu was). miss state, im not so sure if i could put them in the top 25 even with an nit title.

i dont think anyone (including players and coaches) give a shit if they are ranked at all, and especially if it comes down to being ranked 20th or not at all. the season is over, what is the point?

if you win the NIT you can be proud about it but what is the point of being ranked? you don't get a prize for being ranked.

the winner is nearly always playing sweet 16 caliber ball or better

Mike, that wasn't the point...just curious where everyone would personally rank the NIT Champion....no doubt it is a nice accomplishment...I'm not sure how the players even feel about winning the NIT, like for instance where it would rank for them, as players....

I'm not sure I would feel it was much of an accomplishment....of course it is still fun to compete and a trip to NYC nice.

alright I hear you. I think all these teams deserve would deserve a 20-25 ranking if they were to win, and maybe even another one could sneak into the top 25 as well.

When there was a 32 team tourney (instead of 64) the NIT had much better team and champ. Think about it. There was some GOOD teams. Hard to place the champ but there still are some good teams. Just not as good as before.

Watch out for Miss St next yr. They have pretty much every one coming back and will be tough. They got robbed tonight but will be better for it.

depends on who wins it, but probably somewhere around #20-25

the winner is usually a team that was good enough in terms of talent to get an at-large, but their resume wasn't quite good enough. I think that would be the case with AFA, Clemson or WVU, whoever comes out of it alive this year.

Disagree completely. Much more parody these days with scholarship limitations and early entries into NBA. Teams like Miss. St. are not outmanned badly by anyone like the case was back then.

West Virginia is over achieving this year big time. They keep racking up the wins. They have played better ball than at least 40 of the teams in the dance.

I posed the question a couple weeks ago, what would you rather do win the NIT or be one and done in the NCAA tourny? I guarantee WV is elated to still be playing basketball.

Nowadays, you have to be one of the 64. The NCAA is the big party and NIT is not the same regardless of how far you go. It is surely nice to win it but come on. Hard to compare winning it vs one and donein the tourney but that is like comparing a college student who is struggling in his freshman year vs a high school grad who did well but chose not to go to college and is insulting the struggling college student. LOL. You got to make the dance and the comparison ends there. BTW I am a Big East fan and love WV as a team.

tell that to those kids in Morgantown. They are elated nonetheless. Is anyone talking about any of the teams that lost in the first round? The answer is no. These guys are still getting alot of press and strong support from their school and fans.

I couldn't put them any higher than a team in the sweet 16, or WSU, Wisconsin, Maryland, Texas - so, at the absolute highest, 21st. But I would have to figure out some of the other 4, 5 and 6 seeds that were bounced before the sweet 16.
