First off, let me say upfront that I really like Gilbert Arenas. But have you seen this commercial where he tells his sob story about having to ride the bench, but he just kept working and working and finally made it? This bothers the shit out of me for some reason. He basically says

"The first 40 games of my career I had to sit the bench."

Translation:

"For two or three months I got paid what you would consider really good money to watch NBA games courside."

Boo-fucking-hoo.

OK, done venting.

Just like Penny Hardaway in his last year with the Knicks he made 1.57 million for each point he scored!! How bizarre is that?

They actually altered the story for the commercial...he was #0 at Arizona, chose it because when he committed there, the skeptics said that that's how many minutes he'd get to play at U of A. So he chose #0 for that reason.

I personally really like the commercial...the music in it is really good. And Gilbert's come a long way from the 2nd round pick that make the mistake of coming out early, not getting any guaranteed $.

But I see where you're coming from, HarryCaray.

I like Gilbert like many here in the DC area but I've noticed he's becoming somewhat arrogant lately. When he tends to shoot his mouth off too much and tries to be Shaqlike-funny/cocky, he tends to underperform but when he shuts up and just plays, he's deadly. Gil needs to go out and play his game and stop the excessive self-promotion.

Had Kevin Garnett been playing for the SuperSonics Wednesday, Seattle fans might have seen something more than Gilbert Arenas stripping off his jersey and laying it on the court.

SEATTLE - Had Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett been playing for the SuperSonics on Wednesday night, Seattle fans might have seen something more memorable than Washington's Gilbert Arenas stripping off his jersey and laying it on the court near the three-point arc. That's what the showboating Wizards guard did after hitting a running bank shot to win 108-106 as time expired at KeyArena.Obviously, it was way too in-your-face for Garnett's liking.

"I probably would have got fined for something," he said. "That's pretty insulting. There are just certain standards, man. You can hit shots and, y'know what, 'I'm good, you're good, you hit a shot,' it's cool. But that's like T.O. going to the star."

NFL receiver Terrell Owens, several years ago, offended many when he celebrated a touchdown catch against Dallas by running to midfield and stomping on the Cowboys logo. Arenas claimed it was a dream of his to do that, then later admitted he should have saved it for a home game.
"I'm not any rootin', tootin' bad [guy]," Garnett said. "I don't think I would be the only one who would address that on this team, if not all 13, 14, 15 of us."

Then the Wolves star went elder statesman: "Hey, it's a young league right now. These young boys feel like they can do that, and until you do something about it, that's just what it is."
The Sonics, stunned by the loss, were leaving the floor and missed Arenas' schtick. Seattle's mascot, Sasquatch, snatched Arenas' jersey and threw it at him.

But next time? "They're a competitive team," said Garnett, who knows several Seattle players. "I would anticipate that would be very stuck in the back of their heads."

I'm typically a fan of modest players who just do their job and don't talk shit...and Gilbert is definitely the antithesis of that. But he's on the Wizards and his game is filthy, so I gotta root for him.

A friend of mine put it perfectly, though: He's a player that you love and root for when he's on your team, but if he's on any other team, you'll absolutely hate him.
