I am about to take a trip to Cancun Mexico area in about a week. With the start of MLB coming up next week I was wondering if the signal would work while I was there. Just curious to know if anyone is familiar with this type of situation? I live in the Midwest and was curious to see if this works since Cancun is in the CST.

Thanks.

I have a portable receiver that I have in my house. Is the broadcast their on radio done in English or Spanish?
I have not been to Cancun with my Stilleto... but if you have your receiver with you, it should still work. unless they don't sell them there, then I guess it wouldn't work..

Best thing to do is to call into their helpline and ask them.
Have a fun time

I am 95 percent sure that it will work anywhere you take it in the world. Dont quote me on that, but I have sirius and I have heard people call into howard stern from all over the world that say they pick up the signal fine. Id imagine that mexico should be no problem. Also, the channels should be exactly the same, so you dont have to worry about english....

No it does not work anywhere in the world because XM says they are not available in Alaska or Hawaii.

I do think however think that Mexico can still pick up the signal.

Thanks alot guys. I appreciate it. You just made my trip a little more relaxing. Nothing like sitting on the deck sipping Pina Coladas and listening to the Twins on XM!

Satellite transmissions don't quite work like that.

Arthur C. Clarke pointed out in 1946 that you need 3 satellites in geosynchronous orbit in order to get complete global coverage. I suspect that XM radio has deployed a single satellite that covers only the N. American market.

It should work in Cancun. XM has 2 geosynchronous satellites (stationary orbit above the earth) broadcasting above the equator. One at 115 degrees west longitude and one at 85 degrees west longitude. Cancun is 86 degrees west longitude.

XM's coverage area.

Absolute nonsense. If you follow that logic, then you could recieve satellite TV from America in the UK and vice versa. In practice, each satellite generally only covers a small reception area, usually a few thousand square miles.
