“Now That’s Some Serious Coinage”

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">San Jose</st1:City>, <st1:country-region w:st="on">Costa Rica</st1:country-region></st1:place> -- 5Dimes has purchased the Minting Rights to the Canadian dime. Starting in the Fall of 2007 all Canadian dimes will adorn the 5Dimes logo on the reverse, the obverse (front) of the coin will remain unchanged.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Through a partnership with The Royal Canadian Mint, 5Dimes is proud to announce the unveiling of the new 10-cent piece. “Legislation was passed eight months ago which altered the Royal Canadian Mint Act just enough to provide us the opportunity of using the back of the coin any way we deemed fit. We decided it would be best if we would auction the reverse of the coin and use the money at the Government’s sole discretion.” stated a spokesperson of The Royal Canadian Mint. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
The spokesperson continued, “Once the word got out that the reverse side of the coin was up for bidding, we had offers pouring in from advertisers, celebrities and politicians worldwide.” Ultimately, 5Dimes outbid every other competitor. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
“With our name being 5Dimes, we knew that being on the back of a dime was a once in a lifetime advertising opportunity for our company. Price was not a factor, we were determined to outbid everyone, and we did.” explained a 5Dimes representative.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
The Royal Canadian Mint can not discuss details of the bid as part of the negotiation. However, 5Dimes was able to obtain an exclusive statement from The Royal Canadian Mint which verified that “although we can not discuss the negotiations at this time, we thought it was a perfect match that a company like 5Dimes would be on the back of our dime.”<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Even though the bidding may have cost 5Dimes a ‘mint’, they, along with the Canadian people and the rest of the world, are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their own, official coins throughout <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Canada</st1:place></st1:country-region>. The new coins will be entered into circulation in the Fall, and at this time, no other Canadian coins are available for bidding. The coins are not expected to fluctuate the value of the Canadian dime, as approximately 42,000,000 will be released. <o:p></o:p>

I'm still trying to figure out why Canada puts the Queen of England on the obverse of her coinage.

They do a nice job with the wildlife on the reverse of many coins, but the obverse is very stale.

We don't.

Canada has the Queen of Canada on the obverse of the coinage, she just happens to also be the Queen of England.

Canada has a queen then, or is loyal to the crown ? I don't quite get it, but I'm a dumb American that wasn't taught this in skool.

I'm willing to hear an explanation from a Canadian, you could also touch on why Quebec speaks French, for us Yanks.

All you need to know about American history in one sentence:

President Franklin sailed over in 1492 on the Mayflower, then later invented the light bulb !

Quebec, like Louisiana, was settled by the French. Rather than purchasing the territory we simply agreed to have two founding peoples and a bilingual Federation. Its the Canadian way.

The Battle of the Plains of Abraham was a pivotal battle in the North American theatre of the Seven Years' War, known in the United States as the French and Indian War. The confrontation between elements of the British Army, Royal Navy and the French Army was fought on a plateau just outside and to the west of the walls of Quebec City, the capital of New France, on the land of Abraham Martin dit L'Écossais. The battle involved fewer than 10,000 troops in total between both sides, but proved to be a deciding moment in the conflict between France and Britain over the fate of New France and influence the later creation of Canada.

The culmination of a three-month siege with the Royal Navy patrolling the St. Lawrence River and French troops entrenched along the north shore of the river as well as within the fortified city of Quebec, the battle lasted less than an hour, during which time tactics devised by the British commander, General James Wolfe, proved successful in breaking the column advance of French and Canadien troops under Louis-Joseph, Marquis de Montcalm. Both generals were mortally wounded during the battle; Wolfe died on the field and Montcalm passed away the next morning.

In the wake of the battle and the loss of control over Quebec and the St. Lawrence, France's remaining military force in Canada and the rest of North America came under increasing pressure from greater British forces, and within four years French control in what would become eastern Canada was ceded to Great Britain.

Why The f Not ??

Any way to make some money, and put towards the Health Care System.
Does the average Canadian really care whats on the coin ?

Had me going when I first read it ... but when you think aabout it. why not sell one side of every coin for advertising dollars. Nice way to make an easy few bucks.

Only problem I see, is the government will piss the money away some how and we won't see any of it. The again ... how is that different from anything else they do ? lol

I'm confused, shouldn't "5 Dimes" be a 50 cent piece?

Actually commemorative sportsbook coins would be pretty cool.

7.5 ounce "5Dime" gold coins for $5k each? I'd buy one. Wouldn't be a bad withdrawal method either.
