Read this today and I am 99% sure it is accurate but it just seems a tad odd to me.

The last year a player who ever played at least 1 game for the Detroit Tigers in his career and then who eventually went to the Hall of Fame was in 1974. So no Detroit Tiger player since 1974 has ever went into the Hall of Fame.

Not saying a Tiger hasn't went since 1974 but saying that a Detroit Tiger who played 1 game or more for the Tigers EVER in his career, has not played in the MLB since 1974 (Al Kaline's last year, he went in obviously later after his carrer was over). So it has been over 30 years since a player wore the old english D at anytime in thier career and then after his career got in.

30 years!!!!! No Jack Morris, Lou Whittaker, Kirk Gibson, Alan Trammell, no over the hill veteran pickup. No one. I think the Tigers had one of the best overall records in baseball if not the best in the 1980's. I know it was at least top 5.

This will end with Pudge and Sheffield in the future (maybe but doubt Ordonez and Rogers also have a slight shot with a few stat padding years left).

Well they didn't have any dominant pitchers besides Morris, and the stars were not front line stars and then Detroit was absolutely terrible for many of the last 34 years, and when they did go the free agent route it was always second teir....not that hard to fathom really.

Rusty Staub (2700+hits) and Darrell Evans(414 Hr) may be the players closest, and they aren't getting in.

Off the top of my head, I'd say the Pirates were in nearly the same boat with Willie Stargell in the late 70s being the last. Royals had anyone since Brett either?

I would hardly say terribile. How about very medicore. Yes there were some putrid years but there are also 11 straight WINNING YEARS in that stretch so terribile is a little far fetched (IMO) but I know what you are saying as the 90's were basically a wash and they are as bad as the 80's were good. You cant really count the last 5 years as none of those players can be inducted into the Hall of Fame so that leaves 13 out of the 27 HOF elgibile years with a winning team and not 1 player from any of those teams. (unofficial Iceman count of 2062-2111 from 1975-2002, HOF elgibile years. Yes I figured it out. Pretty sad isn't it?)

Not saying they deserve alot but not 1 is amazing to me. A big fat zero just seems a little weird. Growing up a young Tigers fan in the 80's seems weird that Al Kaline is the last (he seem like generations ago) one. I guess I knew the answer after thinking about it.

Okay not terrible but certainly not all that good...they won 90 or more games just 4 times in 35 years...they were a darn good team from 1983-1987, other than that they have been pretty weak going on 4 decades....Detroit had averaged about 95 losses a season over the last 12 years

And 91 wins for for 7 years.

gotcha but not 1 player since Al Freaking Kaline to ever wear the uniform is my point?

Wonder if that is the longest streak in baseball?

That is about as bad as my Detroit Lions haven't had a pro bowler (not even sure what they called them back in the day) at quarterback since the 1950's if I am correct. 50 years!!!!!!!!

The Lions are in their own world for ineptness!

Hey atleast you have the Red Wings who seem to cruise to 100 points annually...and the Pistons!

I say bullshit J-Man. We have battled over this last year. Trammell was a much better player than Ripken.

actually Detroit is ARGUABLY (oh know I opened up a huge can of worms)the best professional sports city currently in the U.S for the BIG FOUR sports. The Wings, Pistons, and Tigers all had top records (Tigers blew it at the end of the regular season) in their repective leagues.

I would trade it all for a good Lions team.

I don't know about that as I am more of a Lou Whittker man myself but I do know all 3 of them are WAY BETTER than Ozzie "overrated because I did backflips" Smith.

I actually have a good idea for a thread.

the saddest part is they (Lou and Tram) arent even close. They recieved so little support that they are not even on the ballot anymore. Maybe the veterans committee will get them in the future.

Agreed.
That 1984 Detroit Tiger up the middle with Lemon, Trammell, Parrish and Whittaker was one of the greatest ever defensivly, and that includes Bench, Cedeno, Morgan and Concepcion.

the tigers did have the best record in the 80's at least in the AL, i believe the

yankees were 2nd. Jack Morris should be in the HOF.

Morris should be a HOF'er. They did have a HOF manager in Sparky Anderson.

With the movement of players, that really is an amazing stat.

AMAZING STAT.

Even the Rays had BOGGS.

SHEFF should be in someday.
Sheffield's 10th homer of the season, a solo shot leading off the fifth inning against Edwin Jackson, snapped a 2-2 tie and pulled the Tigers slugger even with Hall of Famer Dave Winfield for 29th on the career list.

MANY HOF'ers lately have been 1 team guys like GWYNN, RIPKEN, MOLITOR, BRETT, SANDBERG, OZZIE, KIRBY (and smotzie in a few years)etc.
