Every so often it comes up on this website that either gambling is a waste of time or posting is a waste of time and we 'all should be out doing more' that we 'don't appreciate life like we should' etc.

Mr Hognuts has been the most vocal crusdaer of late suggesting anyone who spends significant time on an internet forum is wasting his/her life away.

So how does one appreciate every single moment in life, what exactly is that?

Do you remind yourself every hour how lucky you are to be alive?

Do you go to church daily and pray? Take long walks with a big smile greeting everyone?

Do you hug your family members more, do you have posted notes everywhere reminding yourself to 'stop and smell the roses' at every turn?

How is spending time on the internet any different than passing the time watching TV or playing a video game or sitting at a barstool drinking for hours?

Why is that some feel the intenet is this fake world that doesn't really exist?

I realize everything needs to be done with moderation but c'mon it still boils down to what makes each individual happy in their own world and mind, you can be very productive and benefit from doing many different things , the internet being one of them.

BACK TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION- HOW DO WE APPRECIATE EVERY MOMENT AND LIVE IT TO THE FULLEST, WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE DEFINITION OF THAT

Treat others as you would expect to be treated and you will have a great life. Enjoy your successes and try not to sweat the small stuff. Do everything you can to avoid obnoxious or selfish people.

I stopped worrying about what other people think log ago. I enjoy my family on a weekly basis (kid is in college and visit the folks on sunday) and my 2 dogs. Am not married and plan on keeping it that way....have many one night stands (mostly w/ married women). Enjoy smoking great marijuana and watching the science channel (when not gambling). Take 2 short vacations a year and waiting for Dec 21, 2112 for the end of the earth.

Take time to appreciate all the good things in your life. The key here is to "take the time" to appreciate them. If you are not going hungry every night then you are doing better then millions of people.

Journey I agree with you. Did in the thread as well, when it comes to posting on a forum. I often post while watching games and doing homework just to take my time away from doing just one thing, because if I did I would go crazy. That was not the point of what I wrote. I was just trying to help people look at things as habits, and understand for many gambling is a form of entertainment, so you shouldn't be betting more then you can afford for you entertainment balance.

I just don't want to turn into a person who NEEDS to gamble and NEEDS the excitement. I do not think it is responsible to gamble with your future, and that is what many obsessive gamblers do. The point of it also wasn't just to focus on gambling. I brought up many other habits that people have that if they were broken they could have 100k+ more in there bank account, and they wouldn't be complaining about having no money.

I would really like to hear how people live life to the fullest and appreciate each day, their idea of it .

You only have so much time no matter how it's sliced it is 24 hours, and only so much energy, what is the optimum medium , that is a very difficult question, we would probably be better off not even thinking about it.

The simple things, good food, relaxation, feel healthy, look healthy, freedom to do as we wish , hopefully live for 100 years, be attractive to others, create good memories, be remembered in a positive light....

I've brought this topic up a couple times over the years, it all is relative I guess, ones own interpretation when it's all said and done.

Who is someone else to criticize another who's not bothering them? I think the ones who do the criticizing are generally the ones who are insecure and not happy.

I prefer consitency and positive momentum..

I don't think most people are as happy as they want to be but don't have any idea what they really want.

Some people need to keep really busy to enjoy life.

I don't like those people.

I just chill.

I just do what I want to do. It's not like you can contribue to forums while you're dead. So if you want to contribute to forums, better do it now.

There ain't nothing better in life than going to the track and/or going golfing and knowing you can still get it up.......possibly all in the same day. (And I am serious JMan.)

What happens 12/21/2112 ?

Sorry mistyped it is 12/21/2012

What will happen on December 21, 2012?
THE MAYAN CALENDAR END-DATE

Due to a phenomenon called the precession of the equinoxes, caused by the Earth's wobble that lasts almost 26,000 years, the apparent location of the Winter Solstice sunrise has been ever so slowly moving toward the Galactic Center. Precession may be understood by watching a spinning top. Over many revolutions the top will rise and dip on its axis, not unlike how the Earth does over an extremely long period of time. One complete rise and dip constitutes the cycle of precession. The Mayans noticed the relative slippage of the positions of stars in the night sky over long periods of observation, indicative of precession, and foretold this great coming attraction. By using an invention called the Long Count, the Mayans fast-forwarded to anchor December 21, 2012 as the end of their Great Cycle and then counted backwards to decide where the calendar would begin. Thus the Great Cycle we are currently in began on August 11, 3114 B.C.

2006: On July 31st, a tiny sunspot was born. It popped up from the sun's interior, floated around a bit, and vanished again in a few hours. On the sun this sort of thing happens all the time and, ordinarily, it wouldn't be worth mentioning. But this sunspot was special: It was backward.
"We've been waiting for this," says David Hathaway, a solar physicist at the Marshall Space Flight in Huntsville, Alabama. "A backward sunspot is a sign that the next solar cycle is beginning."

Sunspots are planet-sized magnets created by the sun's inner magnetic dynamo. Like all magnets in the Universe, sunspots have north (N) and south (S) magnetic poles. The sunspot of July 31st popped up at solar longitude 65o W, latitude 13o S. Sunspots in that area are normally oriented N-S. The newcomer, however, was S-N, opposite the norm.

This tiny spot of backwardness matters because of what it might foretell: A really big solar cycle.

Solar activity rises and falls in 11-year cycles, swinging back and forth between times of quiet and storminess. Right now the sun is quiet. "We're near the end of Solar Cycle 23, which peaked way back in 2001," explains Hathaway. The next cycle, Solar Cycle 24, should begin "any time now," returning the sun to a stormy state.

Satellite operators and NASA mission planners are bracing for this next solar cycle because it is expected to be exceptionally stormy, perhaps the stormiest in decades. Sunspots and solar flares will return in abundance, producing bright auroras on Earth and dangerous proton storms in space:

According to many prophecies something important is about to happen in 2012.
In 2012 the centre of the Galaxy is at 0 degree of the Western zodiacal sign Capricorn. 0 degree Capricorn is the point of the zodiac where the Sun is during the December solstice.

At December 21, 11.12 GMT during the December solstice the Sun is at the exact centre of the Galaxy. According to the Mayas the center of the Galaxy is the cosmic womb: the place of dead, transformation, regeneration and rebirth. This moment shows the end of their calendar.

I'd like to know why people think a message board is such a waste of time?

I'm a HUGE fan of forums. If you want to learn something - anything - find a board. It's easier to learn from other people's mistakes than to make them yourself. And you'll gain insight that might otherwise take years to uncover alone.

All of my major passions - gambling, football, politics, etc - have been in large part studied at message boards.

I'll add too, that because this community actually provides its members an opportunity to meet at the Bash (and elsewhere), that this particular board serves as a social network as well.

You've been watching way to much of the science channel :think2:

I haven't heard about mainstream scientists worrying about this. Seems to me something like a comet or huge asteroid hitting the Earth is what it would take to wipe out the life on Earth.
