Dice K is not disappointing in his debut. I just wish Boston could put a few more runs on the board for him.

No one believed me when I said he was the 2nd best in baseball behind Johan.

Nothing he does against the Royals is going to make me definitively believe he is the 2nd best in baseball. The jury is still out on him, as it should be.

There were very few teams in baseball that hit better at home than the Royals last year. They have a nice offense, as evidenced by Schilling's poor outing. Everyone hates on the Royals because they don't win, but as far as offense at home, they are near the tops.

He looks great so far. Can't wait for him to pitch against their hated rivals the Yankees. Should be lots of fun.

can we at least wait until mid-may before ranking him against the rest of the league?

if he came out today and got torched for 6 runs on 11 hits in 5 innings, it wouldnt mean he was a bust or overrated.

similarly, a good debut has to be kept in perspective. if im not mistaken, nomo and irabu got out of the gate fast as well.

add: he is definitely a very good pitcher. and better than his asian predecessors. but its still one start.

You guys can wait. I've seen alot of him from Japan and the WBC. He's the real deal and I've been convinced before spring training started. :bunnies:

Fair enough with the home split angle, though I recall their offense was 12th in the AL last year overall. I am convinced he is not terrible, but I am still anxious to see more outings

It started in the World Championship where the number of pitches he possesses, 8 in all I believe, completely dominated the World's opposition, not just the U.S. Anyone who has visually watched him pitch, no matter the opponent, can see that he possesses exceptional versatility in his pitches at any time and he has the poise of a veteran. He showed more of the same in spring training. Not sure where he may rank. That isn't important. What is important is that he is going to be difficult to beat on most days.

Royals hit around .280 last year at home. They lose games because of their pitching and bullpen, not their offense. Schilling knows that as he has 3 horrible starts against them the last 2 years.

As was already pointed out in this thread, the Royals offense is solid. It is their pitching that has killed them.

This is the same Royals lineup that lit up Schilling.

He has lost his control this inning. Hopefully he can work out of it.

He started the 6th inning having thrown 98 pitches. Only normal for him to be tiring at this point.

Most of his outings in Japan go for like 150 pitches...
