2007 RECORD: 1-0-0 +1.0 Units
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
There were a couple games I liked today, but only one really stood out. The runner up today was the Texas Rangers, but due to the volatility of their pitcher Robinson Tejeda against a veteran team like <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Boston, I decided to lay off. Some days there will be multiple plays, others there will only be one. Anyway, on to today:

4/6/2007: Chicago Cubs (Rich Hill) @ Milwaukee Brewers (Dave Bush) 8:00PM ET

PLAY ON: CHICAGO CUBS ( MoneyLine, +110) To Win 1 Unit

The Cubs took on some massive player contracts during this past off-season. Names like Alfonso Soriano, Jason Marquis, Ted Lilly and Cliff Floyd should give you a good idea of how much money they spent, not to mention a new manager in Lou Piniella. Today the Cubs travel to Milwaukee after losing 2 of their first 3 games on the season, and amassing a disappointing 2.5 Runs Per Game. Though it’s early, this revamped Cubs team is most definitely anxious to flaunt their new assets, score some runs, and defeat a division rival in resounding fashion.

The Milwaukee Brewers seem to always have high “sleeper” expectations coming into the season, but it never really pans out. They have once again started off hot, winning a series at home against one of the strongest pitching staffs in baseball. After beating the LA Dodgers’ Derek Lowe, Randy Wolf, and nearly defeating the dominant Jason Schmidt, this young Brewers lineup is cocky to say the least.

Rich Hill takes the mound for the Cubs, a pitcher whom most would agree is a virtual unknown throughout the baseball world. Despite Hills mere 16 major league starts, this guy has some of the best “stuff” I’ve seen, ever. Hill is a dominant lefty, a valued asset that doesn’t come around very often. In the second half of last season, he held an ERA of 2.92 in 12 starts. In the month of September, he struck out 42 batters in 41 innings, with multiple 10-strikeout games. In his only game against Milwaukee, he struck out 7 and gave up 2 Earned Runs in 7 innings. After an entire Spring Training with zero walks, one can only imagine how dominant Rich Hill could be today against a young, restless Brewers lineup missing two of their veteran hitters in Corey Koskie and Laynce Nix.

On the other side of the ball is Milwaukee pitcher Dave Bush. Bush is a guy I also like because of his limited Walks and low WHIP. He was 12-11 last year for the Brewers, a time when he flew well under the radar. Now in his 4th consecutive season, Bush is a known pitcher, and must be respected. However, he does have his flaws. The Cubs send out a lineup today that is chock-full of homerun bats in Floyd, Soriano, Ramirez, Lee, and even Jacque Jones. While none of these players have really erupted yet, this could be the game. Last year, Dave Bush allowed 201 hits in 210 innings, a clear indication that he throws a lot of balls right down the pipe. If Bush doesn’t put on a real show tonight, we will see a lot of his flat pitches get hammered by the anxious Chicago bats.

With so many new additions, the Cubs are most definitely capable of winning a road game against a young, inexperienced team. Rich Hill could also end up being a major factor on this staff, and could be prime pickin’ for some more bets down the road.

Good luck…
