Just a redneck here.

If one were to go to Antigua (not that I am EVEN THINKING about it); Actually if I invented odds would say 20 to 1--I would not go.

Question is: What is their currency and how difficult would it be to take it to a local bank in the US and exchange it for dollars.

Let me say--I have NO complaint against any book. This is only a famous "what if" question.

Eastern Caribbean Dollar, could probably be exchanged at a commercial bank, for a fee.

the EC is used in many small Western Carribean islands, however I seriously doubt that you can exchange it for USD unless we are talking about Miami (because of the many flights that go to there)

Any exchange house will charge you RIDICULOUS fees........I did it ONCE recently and of course regret it

Probably only in Miami you would be able to , simply because MIA airport has many flights to such area

When I travel outside of what used to be the land of the proud and home of the free(fuck you Bush) I charge everything and let them figure out the exchange rate.

example of why using plastic is better

a) in Paris I walk into currency exchange house....with 95 pounds (about 190 dollars) , 95 pounds was like 140 euros , then the fees ......these guys charged me about 30 euros (no joke!) to make the change.........

b) made an ATM withdrawl, exchange rate was about 1% more than the stuff listed in xe.com and then the owner of the ATM machine charged 3 bucks

I will take b (note: I already knew in advance that by going to a currency exchange house I was going to get rapped just not THAT badly)

Absolutely the best way the go. Credit card for significant purchases and ATM withdrawal for walking around change for merchants who won't take cards.

Used the ATM in Tahiti for the Outre-Mer French Francs (which have a fixed exchange to the Euro based on the changeover date), then used them all up since they are worthless anywhere else.
