I'd really like your opinion..

Now for example

When a team is -115 overnight and goes up to -130 or more the next day would you say it's a

"very" good sign

good sign

Doesn't matter to you

Bad sign

good sign, only because you know you got the best number.

the game still has to be played, and either team can win any day in baseball. I don't really think that there are these huge baseball sharps out there moving the line 20 points that know much more than the books or I don't know already.

Alright so if I bet a team overnight and the other team gets steamed the next day it's not that big of a deal then?

I would be unhappy that I didn't have the best number, but not worried as long as you believe you capped the game correctly.

Iceman would be a good person to chime in here, he knows a ton about steam. Not sure if hes a huge baseball guy though.

Also you could look at the "pinny lean" and see what they have going on over there.

But if you are talking about the Dodgers game I wouldn't consider that to have been steamed. I see Dodgers +100 at 5dimes, might have seen +102 earlier......but thats not a big enough movement to be worried about, if it was -105 last night

When people pound the opposite side from me, I am disappointed. Not because I think they know something I don't, but because it means I overpaid. If people bet with me, I don't think I have a better chance at winning, but when the line moves it's nice to see that I got a bargain.

If a team moves from -115 to -130 overnight or anything similar, I see it as the books simply adjusting their figures.

Pretend you're a bookie. You open the Yankees -115 at home vs. the Red Sox. First guy bets $1k on the Yankees. Second guy bets $1k on the Red Sox. Third guy bets $3k on the Yankees. You'll have to adjust as there's more money on the Yankees. The books almost want even money on both sides. That's how they gurantee profits on that game.

All the line change means is there's more money being bet on one team than the books would like to see. So they try to sway people to go the other way by giving them a better price to go the other way. It doesn't mean they know who'll win or that the Yankees are the best pick, just means there's more money on that side than the books would like.

I worry more about the late moves as many times there are late scratches.

If you bet a team that is -115 overnight and it is -130 the next day, it matters. You're getting much GREAT value and inevitably will win long term. However, if you bet it at -130 the next day it doesn't matter.

edit: why was this post at the top of the forum when no one has replied in a month+. Weird.
