Been there a few times...the resort is beautiful but a little pricey....the golf course there is rated in the top five in the world....may I recommend Playa Dorado in Puerto Plata, all inclusive and fine beaches with over 10 hotels in the complex to choose from....two small casinos and a nice 18 hole golf course, and other fine resorts close by....Sosua, Caberreti, and Rio San Juan....

If you want to go to an island and just lay, and drink, and chill all day-this is the place. If you want to go out and meet alot of chicks/a place with a night life-it is a little more difficult here unless you speak spanish. Most people here are with their wife or family.
Majority of vacationers are from Europe-which I didn't mind at all. And there is a lot of topless going on...that has benefits and consequences.

I think the key for any tropical island is to stay a good place where you will get good service.
