Currently 10 players have averages at or over .400. It is early and the question is a bit facetious, but who do you think actually has a shot at ending the season above that mythical mark?

Trot Nixon
Miguel Cabrera
Akinori Iwamura
Victor Martinez
Vladimir Guerrero
Aramis Ramirez
Grady Sizemore
Placido Polanco
Derrek Lee
Ichiro Suzuki

Poll up.
The question is not who will hit .400, but who you think has the best chance to hit .400.
I think we all agree that most likely no one will hit .400.

Miguel Cabrera is poised to have a monster season. He may win the batting title, home run title, and rbi title this year.

You'd need at least 10-1 on anybody doing it ( field), I wouldn't take those odds, but at least that to think about it.

I'd consider 25-1, not much less, you need an Ichiro type with speed for groundball hits, not many others could have a chance.

Kruser,
The list in the initial post was for guys currently batting .400 or better. The poll has room for 8 so Mauer would fall in the "any other player" category. By virtue or his position, I would say it is nearly impossible for Mauer to hit that high at catcher. Morneau would have a better shot in my opinion.

Joe Mauer isn't on your list GD?

No Adam Dunn either...:monsters-

Honestly I wonder if I'll ever see a .400 hitter in my lifetime, hopefully so. Gwynn was definitely gonna have a shot in '94 if not for the strike.

Adam Dunn? More likely he's hit .200 with 50 homers a la Rob Deer than .400.

BTW, Johnny Damon is batting a robust .556 now as well, albeit with limited at-bats.

Yeah I was j/k about Dunn. I would pick Ichiro although I don't think he's selective enough to hit .400, would love to see someone give it a run though.

Sizemore may indeed stay above .400 because the Indians might never play another game this season.:lolBIG:

I love that guy's game, he may be one of the top 5 players in the league. Definitely a five tool player.

with these bullpen specialists now its just so hard to get hits past the 67th innings. Im sure we will see some "runs" again but I dont think in the next 30 years we will see a 0.400.

Mauer and Ichiro are the only two currently who could do it.
