Chicago White Sox -115 (3 Units) First three unit play of the year and it is on a team that I know best. As I said I will not always be on the White Sox I just love how they are playing right now. They are getting runners over and getting the hits when they need them. Jon Garland is a guy who will give you 6+ innings, and there is a reason he has the most wins in baseball the last two seasons. My only fear, and why I almost made this a two unit play, is that the White Sox have not seen Gaudin. The White Sox order is not on fire but Thome, Konerko and Crede are swinging the bat well. The key to the order is Scott Podsednik who is playing great baseball. I look for Brian Anderson to possibly get a spot start tomorrow, but he may not get the start until Wednesday. If Anderson gets the start I am even more confident in this play. Iguchi will move up to the two spot and Anderson will add pop to the bottom of the order. Garland loves pitching in the Coliseum and when the Sox have struggled in Oakland in the past he has been the only one who has been able to get a win. He has an ERA below three there in almost 30 innings pitched. Garland is a sinker baller who looked Ok in his first outing after he settled down. The middle of the order for the White Sox are finally starting to swing the bat well, and with Podsednik going 3-4 tonight the Sox are getting on the right track. I am going with the team that is playing good baseball, and I feel the Sox actually get the sweep in Oakland this weekend. If they do get the sweep, or win two out of three look out for them to struggle in their first game back. This is a big emotional series for them, and with the way they are pitching the ball now I have to take them, and it does help that Oakland just flat out can't hit right now. As I said I will NOT be on the Sox every outing, but I do no this team well and will be against them probably as many times as I am on them. But when I am against them I won't bet it I will just write it for general knowledge because I can't bet against them.
Minnesota +133 (2 Units) I am going with Bonser in this spot and fading Pettitte until he proves he isn't washed up. I think this game will be relatively high scoring but I thin the Twins take the high end here. I feel Bonser will be able to contain the Yankees order and pitch 6-7 solid innings. The Yankees are swinging a hot bat right now but Bonser is the perfect guy to slow him down. He will make the hitters become patient, and if they aren't patient they will not win this game. Pettitte just isn't throwing the ball well right now, and the hitting can not keep bailing out the pitching. Minnesota is swinging the bat well and that is not something Pettitte needs right now. His confidence is uneasy right now and the Twins hitters smell blood. You can never go wrong betting the Twins because they won't beat themselves, and I just don't think the Yankees have enough to beat them tomorrow.
Houston +135 (1 Unit) Marquis was maybe the worst starting pitcher in baseball last year and even this awful Astros lineup should be able to handle them. The Cubs are not swinging the bat well right now and playing in frigid temps is not a way to come out of a hitting funk. I will go with the better pitcher in the cold weather and say the Cubs start out at home 0-2.
Over 9 1/2 Boston/Seattle -120 (1 Unit) Think this numbers soars over. Beckett still hasn't proved he can stay focused each inning of each start, and he certainly hasn't proved he can pitch in the AL. Although I am not betting this line because of Beckett he does help the play. Jeff Weaver had a nice Post Season but outside of that he is god awful. He will be making his first start of the season and I expect him to go back to his old Weaver ways. If Jeff really has found a new arm slot then I may eat my words. But until he proves it I will bet on the Sox scoring 8 runs themselves in this game.
