Who's your favorite announcer?

I was just thinking how consistant Vin Scully is as I'm listening to the Dodgers game, and I could listen to him talk all day. I don't think there is anybody better than him.

Even better when you conisder he does it all by himself. Very smooth and gives the correct info with just enough side stories that it doesn't over shadow what is going on in the game.

He has a very unique style , I'm sure those that listen to him daily really enjoy him...if you're not use to him , you might not like him as much, he takes a little bit to get use to....kind of like Chick Hearn was.

I cant stand Vin Scully

I know I'm in the minority

The lack of commentary I guess gets to me.

I think the Twins have the best announcer

NBC losing baseball deprived the fans of more of his famous calls....

Everyone remembers the Buckner and Gibson calls word for word.....

I think most get use to their hometown guy and compare and don't always care or see the big deal when others rave about a Scully or a Harwell or any of the real big names....I liked Jack Buck a lot though when I did hear his games.

When I first heard Ernie Harwell call a game , its been many years ago now...I couldn't believe how bad he was...and I wondered what anyone saw in his announcing skills...it really comes down to what you're use to.

Chuck Thompson , who is in the MLB broadcasting wing of the HOF was our guy, he called many big games for the etworks in the early days of sports on TV, as well as the Balto Colts and of course the Orioles...

Bob Uecker (Brewers) is another one that has a really odd style that you either love or hate.

??

I didn't expect everyone to agree with me but have you ever heard Vin Scully? He doesn't stop talking.

Yes, Journyman..I know what you mean about home team announcers. I used to think Michael Kay and John Sterling were the best when I got used to listening to them on the radio when I lived in New York.

Boy, was I wrong.

I catch bits and peices of at least a couple games every day on the audio and video of mlb.tv and really it's just refreshing when I have a wager on a dodgers game flip it over for a few minutes and remember how classic Scully is.

I don't know how Vin does it alone.

I watched the game yesterday and he was as smooth as ever.

I personally think Vin is over rated.
But many love him.

As far as analysts go, IMO the best ever was Tony Kubek, followed by Jerry Remy.
The best ever play by play guy was Mel Allen.

Tony Kubek was money growing up when he was the colour guy for the Blue Jays.

Eric Nadel in Texas is best I've regularly heard.

As for Vin, let me pull up a chair and think about it.

Vinny has such great damn stories... He is like 20 years ago I was eating dinner with Hank Aaron and we were talking about the pitcher for the next day...

Who can top that, the guy has a story for everyone and the players loved him so gave him exclusives all the time.

I love Hawk Harrelson but that is the home town syndrome. I think non Sox fans have to hate Harrelson. His terms are so overused on SportsCenter but any guy that can create things that are repeated like that is doing a hell of a job.

He is entertaining and truly cares if the Sox win or Lose.

Eric Nadel is great.

Gary Thorne can make a game between the Pirates and Brewers sound like game seven of the series. I love his energy.

Vin Scully - I know other have their own thoughts, but if someone is better I have never heard them.

It starts with intro to the last pitch.

"Hello, and pleasant good evening for you where ever you maybe."

I remember when Michael Young got his 1st for the Rangers it was at the Revine in interleague play. Vin's like, "what a thrill for that young man, he grew a dodger fan in Souther California and for him to get his first hit here at dodgers stadium. You have to be happy for him and his family." its just the way describes everything its awesome.

For my money the best ever!

Agree on Vin. The stories are great.

I really like Hawk. I two favorite lines:
That's a can of corn and He gone, he'll grab some bench.

Hawk created so many things that are said. That is what is great about hawk and he gets so excited. I think a guy who truly cares can make a game. Hawk goes off and gets hammered and disappears for innings at a time if the Sox are getting killed.

He also always threatens the umpires and things. He is insane haha..

But "You can put it on the board... YESSS!" Is great...

"He Gone"
"Can of Corn"
"Sit back, relax, and strap it down"
"Zone him in, reel him in, and light him up"
"Duck snort"
"Mercy!"

Harry Kalas in his prime was excellent, still pretty decent today.

I'd have to agree with a couple on here that Gary Thorne is the best announcer there is in all of sports today...
