Can anyone name someone who dropped off harder and faster than Sammy Sosa?

This guy went from hitting 60+ homeruns, to not even close to hitting a baseball. Steroids or not, this guy looks so lost at the plate, sometimes he isnt even in the area code of making contact.

Can anyone remember anyone going from being so good to so bad, so quickly?

Mark Wohlers of the Braves a few years ago would def be on the list. He was arguably the best closer in the game with his fastball breaking 100mph the majority of the time, then overnight he could not even throw it to the catcher.

Yes.

Any of the guys who QUIT taking steroids.

Kinda like Samson, cut off his hair, lost his power.

Those 'roids have just as much mental effect as physical.

Ruben Sierra, Canseco, Sluggo for the Yanks, Juan Gonzalez, most every team has a least one guy who was demolished after giving up the juice.

Hell, Julio Franco STILL looks like he is doing something.

Sosa started going bad while in Chicago, and yeah, he would swing at pitches that weren't even in the same zip code.

Raphael Palmiero comes to mind, as well. And, I can't remember that MONSTER for the Yanks, haven't heard from him in a while, also, who was that killer-hitter on the A's ? Plus, that 3rd base guy from the Astro's, Ken Camineti? Killed himself, right?

Steroids = all in the name of being able to hit it out of the park (can't do it without them).

Sosa. Can't see him getting any better, his best days are long gone (IMO).

brad lidge and matt morris are current guys who have bombed out.
obviously sosa is atop the list because he was a mega star.

but matt morris was cy young caliber for the cardinals a few years ago.
now he gets hit hard consistently and looks nothing like his former 'ace' self.

lidge was as dominant as i can ever remember a closer being in the postseason a few years ago. now i dont think he will ever be an effective closer again.

I don't know about harder AND faster but here are a few names that are close....

Greg Vaughn.
Rafael Palmeiro.
Ken Griffey, Jr. (nowhere near the player he used to be).
Jay Buhner.
Tony Batista (hits 35 HR, drives in 110 runs in '04, plays in Japan in '05).

I remember Mo's first game as an Angel.... he fell in to the visitor's dugout and sprained his ankle.

But he still hit 69 HRs & 225 RBIs for them in two seasons. His career ended due to a severe knee injury.
