Eating at a restaurant, do you pay close attention to the one handling your food?

This is something that I take very seriously and on many occasions I get turned off to the point I can't order certain foods out.

If I go into a decent restaurant with a carryout and I see the person making my food , bare hands and all, I watch them like a hawk...looking for the slightest mishandling of my order.

There have been a few occasions I was completely turned off by the time my food arrived and I couldn't even eat it.

One time I go into a resaurant, one of my favorite places to get a carryout order, the guy at the counter was sweating up storm, tiny sweat beads formed all over his nose, as if he was in a sauna....he takes my order , takes my cash, gives me change, turns around and starts making my food!

He never bothered to wash his hands, at some point during the preparation he goes to his sweaty face and back to my bread!

I was starving , I couldn't eat it, I aslo couldn't make a scene ...I did end up calling and reporting the incident and got a refund.

The problem is most of these places have somehwat unsanitary conditions in the best of circumstances, they do not wash their hands enough and should wear gloves... I really don't eat out as much because of it.

It happened again last night, I don't have a problem if I can't see the actual preparer...anyone else have similar experiences, feel the same or opposite?

:lolBIG: See I have a hard time making a scene in that situation, because you will come off as a freak like you just said.

I have in the past and the workers always think your nuts, same situation basically, girl takes my money, gives me change, turns around and starts making my order, that is just wrong and a complete turn off to me....I did complain right away that time.

You guys better never eat out again. 95% of all restaurants have food handling violations. Gloves at most places are there for when the health department shows up , but never used. DINERS are the worst. Greeks don't give a crap about gloves, thats just money wasted to them. Been in the industry for over 20 years now and if you think all restaurants are up to food code violations think again. look at those rat invested places in NYC making thousands each day. Only time I recommend to go out to eat is if the food is prepared at tableside but then again who knows what was done to it before it reached your tableside. How about waiters and waitresses or chefs and cooks going out back and smoking and going back in and handeling your food without washing their hands, this is done every day . I am in the business and I don't eat out at all, lol. In a deli money is being handled and sandwiches are being made by the same person with those dirty hands. Money is the most germ invested thing we touch every day.

I see similar problems, but like you usually don't make a scene. I have walked out multiple times when I noticed a problem before I ordered. The biggest thing I see is subshop workers wear gloves, but they never change them - run register for a while, etc. then back to making subs, wearing the same gloves the whole time.

another time i made a scene. was at bojangles and ordered i looked and saw the biggest nastiest person making my plate and CHOMPING ON CHEWING GUM.

nothing to me is more vile than watching someone chewing on something while making your food.

took my money back there too and walked out

and i have pulled the ol' "i left my money out in the car"many times only to walk out and not return.usually do this only when i see someone handle my food i don't want to see handling it.they have done nothing wrong they just look like they could

Seeing the workers out back smoking is another one that drives me away...a very high percentage in the restaurant bar industry seem to smoke too.

:monsters- I'm hungry!

Beat this.

I fly into Bauvais airport (just outside Paris) and have a short layover. I go to the counter at the cafe inside the airport and order a ham and cheese grilled sandwich. the guy that is taking my order is smoking a cigarette, not terribly uncommon in Europe. However he then proceeds to butter my bread, place the ham and cheese on the bread and place the sandwich in the grill, the whole while the cig is hanging out of his mouth and the ash end is getting longer and longer. Minor miracle the ash didnt fall off during the three minutes it took him to make my sandwich.

How do you not put it out when making food ? At least sit it in an ashtray.

WTF ?

I would say that in over the 20 years in this industry mabe 20% didn't smoke, that includes all waitress, chefs, cooks, buspeople, dishwashers, owners, managers, etc. Some do wash their hands but most don't. Food drops on the floor will it be used, well in some places NO but most YES! Let a GREEK owner see you throw something away after dropping it on the floor. YOU get hell, not for dropping it but for throwing it away, lol.

They should be warned not to do this and fired if seen doing such.

subway the put on gloves

Yes, they do when they make your sandwich. But are you there when they slice the tomatoes, open the pack of ham, refill the condiments, make the tuna salad, etc? :smoking:

wtf is wrong with putting your bread or eggs in the seat? Are your eggs in a carton? Is your bread in a plastic bag?

You are way too extreme.
