Agree on four (although dominating might be slightly much for Sowers and James), but can't say I've seen enough on Owings yet. Verlander, Hamels, Cain, Chris Young and Haren might also be in this category by year's end. And plenty of guys on the verge in the minors right now (e.g., Miller, Pelfry, Gallardo, etc.).

Daniel Cabrera, Rich Hill, Ian Snell, Matt Cain all could dominate.

-Sowers has given up like 4 hits in 10 innings
-Too my knowledge, in two outings James has gone deep into the games and given up very few runs, if any

Hamels is another guy that is doing well, Rich Hill and Ian Snell also

The point is, the more young guys that we identify that are showing consistency over 2 or 3 games to start and dominating early could have value for another game or 2 before the cat is out of the bag

its way too early for this...

Not even close. It is NEVER too early to know which young guys are performing right now. For the life of me I cant stress this enough, as a general rule, you bet on young pitchers early in their seasons, and fade them later. You will miss a large boat of betting baseball if you ignore this. This has to account for at least 10-15% of my capping and is very, very ,very consistent and successful.

You wait around and all of these guys will lose their value, and the books will have adjusted their lines.

Perfect example was Garland a few years ago, or maybe last year. Started off 8-0 or 9-0 and at that point his lines had already climbed. Imagine if you were on him, like I was, when he was at + money and nobody knew about him.

It isnt hard in baseball to determine which young pitchers have "it" right away. The guys that will be special, for the most part, know how to pitch immediately and/or have good enough stuff to get big league hitters out immediately.

I like Hill and Snell as well. To be fair though, and I like Sowers' stuff a lot, he walked 5 with only 1 K in his first start. That's the main reason I'm not willing to say he's dominating quite yet. Dominating pitchers, like Felix last night, don't walk 5 in 6 innings. That said, he's looked great and I'm on him today. James has also looked good, picking up 2 wins this year. But he's also only gone 5 and then 6 innings. That's why I held back from calling him dominating.

I'm curious to see how linesmakers put the line on Pelfrey (2.43 minor league ERA plus 10.21 K/9) tomorrow against the Nats. Should be huge but I'm hoping it's reasonable. Also, keep an eye out for Adam Miller (battled back from an injury two years ago to put up a 2.84 ERA to go along with 161 Ks/46 BBs in 158.1 IPs last year in the minors) when he gets called up later this season. I honestly think he's got better stuff than Sowers.

Adam Wainwright

With Carpenter down...He is LaRussa's best arm right now.

Although LaRussa grinded him yesterday vs the Pirates...Wainwright has been solid in two starts.
