Guaranteed Pick: Jimmy The Moose
Game: Denver Nuggets at New Orleans Hornets Apr 13 2007 8:05PM
Prediction: over
Reason: Denver is on a 7 game winning streak and in 5 of those games they scored at least 111 points. On the road this season the Nuggets have allowed 105 points/game but have also averaged 103/game on offence. New Orleans is 8-2-1 over in their last 11 game at home and have averaged 103 points/game themselves in their last 5 overall. Look for a high scorong game tonight where noth teams easily break the 100 point mark. Play the over.

2007 World Series Champ Big Al's NL Game of the Week.
At 8:10pm, our NL Game of the Week is on the Milwaukee Brewers over the St. Louis Cardinals. While the Indians are borrowing the Brewers ballpark, Milwaukee has been on the road (in south Florida before traveling to St. Louis for this series) and doing pretty well in the process. They just took 2 of 3 from the Marlins, and while their bats have been solid, it's been their pitching that has been the real reason for their success so far. They have a team ERA of 3.54, are second in the NL in WHIP at 1.12, and second in strikeouts with 70. And their bullpen has been amazing, sporting a 1.69 overall ERA through the first 9 games of the season. The Cards are sending young Anthony Reyes to the mound tonight and Reyes is going to be much more of a go to guy this year for St. Louis, especially if Chris Carpenter is out for any prolonged period of time. But despite all the hype, Reyes' numbers really aren't all that impressive, and he hasn't really been able to go very long in his starts. Last season for example, Reyes only averaged 5 innings per start, which is exactly how far he went in his first start of 2007, a game which the Cards lost to Houston by a score of 5-1. No starter in the majors can be very dominating only averaging 5 innings per start, so eventually St. Louis will have to stretch him out which could be when things really fall apart. Ben Sheets goes for the Brewers, and this could be a year that he takes his talent to the next level, assuming he can stay healthy of course. The Cards have already been bitten by the injury bug as, in addition to Carpenter, they are without Scott Rolen (day to day but will not play tonight) and Juan Encarnacion (15 day DL). Take Milwaukee. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. And don't miss my American League Totals Winner, as we've cashed 4 straight here on the diamond, and 80% here on the year.

Bonus Play: Los Angeles Lakers vs Phoenix Suns
At 10:35 pm, our complimentary selection is on the Los Angeles Lakers plus the points over Phoenix. This is a revenge game for Phil Jackson's men, as they lost 115-107 at Staples Center last Sunday to the Suns. Los Angeles found itself in a similar situation earlier in the week when they attempted to avenge a home loss to Denver. The Lakers were 6.5-point road dogs at the Nuggets and covered the spread when they lost 115-111. I look for a similar outcome tonight (a Phoenix victory, but a Lakers cover). Take the points. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie

Marlins at Braves
Prediction: Marlins
Dontrelle Willis is at it again. He's 2-0 this month, which extends his April run to 11-1 with a 2.40 ERA in his last 17 April starts. He'll face a Braves lineup that was held to two hits and shutout last night. We look for Atlanta's struggles to continue against the D-train. Meanwhile, the Braves counter with Mark Redman. The veteran lefty has no business in anyone's rotation. We went against him last Friday in my Beatdown GOW and cashed easily - the Braves lost 11-1 to the Mets. Redman was smacked for five earned runs and a 1.77 WHIP (10 base runners) in 5 2/3 innings pitched. We'll continue to go against the lefty as long as he remains another over-valued Atlanta hurler.
The Marlins hang another loss on Redman and the Braves
Jim Feist
(923) DET Tigers and (924) TOR Blue Jays
Take (924) TOR Blue Jays
The Tigers are an offensive team suited for spacious Detroit, with a balanced lineup. Toronto is built for the artificial turf of SkyDome, with speedy outfielders and plenty of power. Detroit starter Jeremy Bonderman has already faced the Jays this season, and has a 4.50 ERA against them. Toronto goes with ace Roy Halladay who is pitching well again and has owned the Tigers in his career, with a 10-2 mark and a 1.93 ERA in 93.1 innings. That includes just 76 hits allowed, 8 walks and 66 Ks.
Play the Tigers!
Dave Cokin
(903) HOU Astros and (904) PHI Phillies
Take (903) HOU Astros
Make sure to take advantage of Dave's FREE Arena Football League weekend. Dave is 29-12 for the season on his AFL plays, so these are selections you want to be on. The first play goes tonight as San Joe faces Nashville, so make sure and make that call to 1-888-389-7223 for your FREE AFL WEEKEND!..."The money will be on the Astros tonight as they face off with the Phillies. Philly opened as the small favorite, but look for the 'Stros to go off as chalk, and with good reason. Roy Oswalt has superb numbers against this team, particularly at Citizens, where he's 2-0, 0.57. The Phillies are not playing well at all, and with Houston on a modest two game win streak, they're the right side here

9 KIP DEVILLE DUTROW RICHARD E PRADO E S 123
Friday's $250,000 Maker's Mark Mile S. (G2) marks the 2007 debut for SHOWING UP (Strategic Mission), who established himself as a top turf runner last season with victories in the Hollywood Derby (G1), Secretariat S. (G1), Jamaica Breeders' Cup H. (G2) and Colonial Turf Cup S. His only setback on the grass came when stretching out to 1 3/8 miles and taking on older horses in the Man o' War S. (G1), where he still managed a respectable third behind Cacique (Ire), and Showing Up appears set for a terrific four-year-old season.
The Barclay Tagg-trained colt recorded outstanding BRIS Speed and Late Pace numbers last year, and he's working forwardly for his return, drilling six furlongs in a bullet 1:11 4/5 13 days ago. The one-mile trip is a bit of concern, with most of his starts coming at longer distances, and we can't guarantee that he won't be a little rusty against an outstanding group of rivals in his Keeneland turf debut. But Showing Up is too talented for us to go against. He owns an excellent turn of foot and should be close during the early stages with his tactical speed. We expect him to finish strongly after being given the cue by Cornelio Velasquez.
BAYEUX (Red Ransom) has been a tough-luck second in his last two efforts, just missing the win in the final jumps, after opening his U.S. campaign with a nice win in the River City H. (G3) three starts back. Conditioned by Patrick Biancone, the fast-closing gelding is a threat to put it all together on Friday under Julien Leparoux, but there isn't an overabundance of speed in the line-up. We still have the utmost respect for this talented miler.
KIP DEVILLE (Kipling) recorded a sharp win in the one-mile Bryan Station S. in October at Keeneland and boasts a sterling mark at the distance on turf (6-5-0-0), registering a neck score in the Frank E. Kilroe Mile H. (G1) most recently. He earned a 104 Speed and 103 Late Pace rating for that stellar effort, and Edgar Prado will pick up the mount on the dangerous Richard Dutrow runner. The gray four-year-old drew the far outside post, but Kip Deville can use his speed to avoid going too wide into the first turn. It's easy to envision him having a say in the outcome.
REMARKABLE NEWS (Ven) (Chayim) is one to consider for the exotics. He's run twice at Keeneland, recording a convincing allowance score last April and a good second in the Shadwell Turf Mile S. (G1) in October, and he received a tightener for this event, winning a Gulfstream allowance/optional claimer last out for Angel Penna Jr. The five-year-old horse will be forwardly placed from the start under Rene Douglas, and his affinity for the course is an advantage.
OLD DODGE (Brz) (Dodge) finished third in the Shadwell Turf Mile and tuned up for Friday's appearance with a solid third in the Appleton H. (G3) at Gulfstream Park. Considering his strong effort over the course six months ago, Old Dodge can't be dismissed from consideration for a minor award. But he's in tough here. SKY CONQUEROR (Sky Classic) won three straight before concluding 2006 with a third in the Canadian International S. (Can-G1), and the Darwin Banach trainee was voted champion turf horse in Canada. The five-year-old owns top-notch figures, but he's done his best running at Woodbine and finished third versus allowance rivals in his last start at Keeneland. Sky Conqueror did get very good last fall, but we'll give him a race in this spot.
PURIM (Dynaformer) tired to fifth in the Mineshaft H. (G3) on the main track last time, but the five-year-old has some back class on the grass. However, this company is probably too difficult. FREE THINKING (Unbridled) finished second in the Kelso Breeders' Cup H. (G2) and Firecracker Breeders' Cup H. (G2) last year, and he's trained well at Turfway for his first appearance this season. However, the six-year-old could find himself overmatched here. STORM CALLER (Stormy Atlantic) doesn't look good enough to be competitive.

6 OFF DUTY WHITING LYNN S ELLIOTT S 113
BORDONARO (Memo [Chi]) will defend his title in Friday's $150,000 Count Fleet Sprint H. (G3) against only five rivals, and the classy six-year-old gelding looks like the controlling speed in the six-furlong event. He turned in one of his best career efforts at Oaklawn Park last season, easily winning the Count Fleet and registering a 111 BRIS Speed rating, and he's been training forwardly for Bill Spawr in preparation for this year's edition. Bordonaro catches a pretty soft group of rivals, and he'll probably lead wire-to-wire under Richard Migliore.
MACH RIDE (Pentelicus) finished third behind eventual Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-G1) victor Kelly's Landing (Patton) in the Mr. Prospector H. (G3) two starts back and didn't run poorly when fifth against an excellent field in the Richter Scale Breeders' Cup Sprint Championship H. (G2) last out. He ran well last summer for trainer Steve Standridge, winning the Valid Video S. and finishing second in the Carry Back S. (G2), and he appears to be rounding into top form presently. We wouldn't be surprised to see a strong showing from the rail.
A wet track is possible, and RODEO'S CASTLE (Rodeo) ran well when third in the sloppy Hot Springs S. last year. The Beverly Fowler trainee likes Oaklawn (11-3-2-3) and owns plenty of stakes experience. He exits a pair of solid third-place efforts locally, and he could grab a small share at long odds on Friday.
SEMAPHORE MAN (Formal Gold) captured the King Cotton S. two starts back but faltered at 3-5 in the Hot Springs last time. The Kelly Von Hemel runner owns an admirable 8-5-1-2 mark over the track, and he merits serious respect for the bottom of the exacta.
JUNIOR COLLEGE (Ide) exits a solid score in the Hot Springs, but he'll have a difficult time duplicating that effort here. OFF DUTY (Yes It's True) is two for two at six furlongs, but his Speed ratings look a little low.

HORSE RACING
TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Fantastic Spring - Ran big last time off a 14-month hiatus and for new trainer Miller; repeat effort makes her the one to beat.
Kaitlyn's Light - Been away 11-months, but showed ability last spring; watch the tote and see if she takes a lot of early action.
Long Shot - Island Lightning
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Sail On Sunshine - Suspect Chavez will be more aggressive today with the lack of real speed in here; he must sit closer to win.
Kokopelli Trail - Bad parking lot post, Pedroza may take back and try to tuck in before the first turn; facing many slowpokes today.
Long Shot - Stingoftruth
Race 3 - 7 furlongs, Purse $55,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 4-year-olds and up
Grinding It Out - Broke slow in last, then found his best stride in the late stages; second start off a 10-month hiatus can improve.
Peace Chant - Ran a career best race in last off a 13-month sabbatical; key is whether he can pair up big races or if he regresses.
Long Shot - Publication
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $25,000, Starter allowance $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Crocetta - Have to love the way Talamo looks in the saddle, maybe the next "natural"; good value as she is making her turf debut.
Promise of Spring - Tepid chalk has cashed two paychecks in two turf starts; she is fairly consistent but has lacked a killer instinct.
Long Shot - The Cat Did It
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
Nationhood - Taking an enormous class drop from $50k to $25k; need not be much to handle these, like the parking lot post too.
Caribbean's Herd - Took to the lower class in last with aplomb; doesn't figure to see a lot of pace, so Garcia must be aggressive.
Long Shot - Rush Ahead
Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $24,000, Claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up
Hoot - Gets class relief today facing a much softer group; like that Espinoza remains loyal, will sit midpack and grind it out late.
Captain Sacto - Big run in last, now a major rider switch to Chavez for the money shot; may be peaking for a winning performance.
Long Shot - Away Down South
Race 7 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $59,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 4-year-olds and up
True Dancer - Mullins barn is heating up as we get closer to the Hollywoood meeting; like the switch to Espinoza, he can finish.
Gem Proof - Did everything but win last time in a terrific effort; key is he may have squeezed the lemon dry, needs another big try.
Long Shot - Running Free
Race 8 - 1 mile, Purse $16,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Late Date - Ran OK in a sprint, now stretching back out around 2-turns and taking the weight off; bugboy Williams hasn't had many shots.
Flower Hill - Tepid chalk in maybe the hardest race of the pick 6; showed tactical speed in last to sit a trip and grind it out late.
Long Shot - Melodious
Best Bet - Sail On Sunshine (race 2)

Play the over.
just a little extra little info from Sweetlou...
