THE MOOSE'S NBA "TOTAL OF THE YEAR" MONEY MAKER.
Join the Moose tonight on the hardcourt and bury your man. The Moose has released his NBA "TOTAL OF THE YEAR" MONSTER PROFIT MAKER that will easily pocket you the cash. As always remember you only pay when it pays for you.

Guaranteed Pick: Jimmy The Moose

Game: Denver Nuggets at New Orleans Hornets Apr 13 2007 8:05PM
Prediction: over
Reason: Denver is on a 7 game winning streak and in 5 of those games they scored at least 111 points. On the road this season the Nuggets have allowed 105 points/game but have also averaged 103/game on offence. New Orleans is 8-2-1 over in their last 11 game at home and have averaged 103 points/game themselves in their last 5 overall. Look for a high scorong game tonight where noth teams easily break the 100 point mark. Play the over.

just a little extra little info from Sweetlou...

8 of 12 games in this series have gone OVER THE TOTAL since 1996

2007 World Series Champ Big Al's NL Game of the Week.
At 8:10pm, our NL Game of the Week is on the Milwaukee Brewers over the St. Louis Cardinals. While the Indians are borrowing the Brewers ballpark, Milwaukee has been on the road (in south Florida before traveling to St. Louis for this series) and doing pretty well in the process. They just took 2 of 3 from the Marlins, and while their bats have been solid, it's been their pitching that has been the real reason for their success so far. They have a team ERA of 3.54, are second in the NL in WHIP at 1.12, and second in strikeouts with 70. And their bullpen has been amazing, sporting a 1.69 overall ERA through the first 9 games of the season. The Cards are sending young Anthony Reyes to the mound tonight and Reyes is going to be much more of a go to guy this year for St. Louis, especially if Chris Carpenter is out for any prolonged period of time. But despite all the hype, Reyes' numbers really aren't all that impressive, and he hasn't really been able to go very long in his starts. Last season for example, Reyes only averaged 5 innings per start, which is exactly how far he went in his first start of 2007, a game which the Cards lost to Houston by a score of 5-1. No starter in the majors can be very dominating only averaging 5 innings per start, so eventually St. Louis will have to stretch him out which could be when things really fall apart. Ben Sheets goes for the Brewers, and this could be a year that he takes his talent to the next level, assuming he can stay healthy of course. The Cards have already been bitten by the injury bug as, in addition to Carpenter, they are without Scott Rolen (day to day but will not play tonight) and Juan Encarnacion (15 day DL). Take Milwaukee. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. And don't miss my American League Totals Winner, as we've cashed 4 straight here on the diamond, and 80% here on the year.

Bonus Play: Los Angeles Lakers vs Phoenix Suns
At 10:35 pm, our complimentary selection is on the Los Angeles Lakers plus the points over Phoenix. This is a revenge game for Phil Jackson's men, as they lost 115-107 at Staples Center last Sunday to the Suns. Los Angeles found itself in a similar situation earlier in the week when they attempted to avenge a home loss to Denver. The Lakers were 6.5-point road dogs at the Nuggets and covered the spread when they lost 115-111. I look for a similar outcome tonight (a Phoenix victory, but a Lakers cover). Take the points. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie

MLB for 04/13/2007
Marlins at Braves

Prediction: Marlins

Dontrelle Willis is at it again. He's 2-0 this month, which extends his April run to 11-1 with a 2.40 ERA in his last 17 April starts. He'll face a Braves lineup that was held to two hits and shutout last night. We look for Atlanta's struggles to continue against the D-train. Meanwhile, the Braves counter with Mark Redman. The veteran lefty has no business in anyone's rotation. We went against him last Friday in my Beatdown GOW and cashed easily - the Braves lost 11-1 to the Mets. Redman was smacked for five earned runs and a 1.77 WHIP (10 base runners) in 5 2/3 innings pitched. We'll continue to go against the lefty as long as he remains another over-valued Atlanta hurler.

The Marlins hang another loss on Redman and the Braves

Jim Feist

(923) DET Tigers and (924) TOR Blue Jays

Take (924) TOR Blue Jays

The Tigers are an offensive team suited for spacious Detroit, with a balanced lineup. Toronto is built for the artificial turf of SkyDome, with speedy outfielders and plenty of power. Detroit starter Jeremy Bonderman has already faced the Jays this season, and has a 4.50 ERA against them. Toronto goes with ace Roy Halladay who is pitching well again and has owned the Tigers in his career, with a 10-2 mark and a 1.93 ERA in 93.1 innings. That includes just 76 hits allowed, 8 walks and 66 Ks.

Play the Tigers!

Dave Cokin

(903) HOU Astros and (904) PHI Phillies

Take (903) HOU Astros

Make sure to take advantage of Dave's FREE Arena Football League weekend. Dave is 29-12 for the season on his AFL plays, so these are selections you want to be on. The first play goes tonight as San Joe faces Nashville, so make sure and make that call to 1-888-389-7223 for your FREE AFL WEEKEND!..."The money will be on the Astros tonight as they face off with the Phillies. Philly opened as the small favorite, but look for the 'Stros to go off as chalk, and with good reason. Roy Oswalt has superb numbers against this team, particularly at Citizens, where he's 2-0, 0.57. The Phillies are not playing well at all, and with Houston on a modest two game win streak, they're the right side here

9 KIP DEVILLE DUTROW RICHARD E PRADO E S 123

Friday's $250,000 Maker's Mark Mile S. (G2) marks the 2007 debut for SHOWING UP (Strategic Mission), who established himself as a top turf runner last season with victories in the Hollywood Derby (G1), Secretariat S. (G1), Jamaica Breeders' Cup H. (G2) and Colonial Turf Cup S. His only setback on the grass came when stretching out to 1 3/8 miles and taking on older horses in the Man o' War S. (G1), where he still managed a respectable third behind Cacique (Ire), and Showing Up appears set for a terrific four-year-old season.

The Barclay Tagg-trained colt recorded outstanding BRIS Speed and Late Pace numbers last year, and he's working forwardly for his return, drilling six furlongs in a bullet 1:11 4/5 13 days ago. The one-mile trip is a bit of concern, with most of his starts coming at longer distances, and we can't guarantee that he won't be a little rusty against an outstanding group of rivals in his Keeneland turf debut. But Showing Up is too talented for us to go against. He owns an excellent turn of foot and should be close during the early stages with his tactical speed. We expect him to finish strongly after being given the cue by Cornelio Velasquez.

BAYEUX (Red Ransom) has been a tough-luck second in his last two efforts, just missing the win in the final jumps, after opening his U.S. campaign with a nice win in the River City H. (G3) three starts back. Conditioned by Patrick Biancone, the fast-closing gelding is a threat to put it all together on Friday under Julien Leparoux, but there isn't an overabundance of speed in the line-up. We still have the utmost respect for this talented miler.

KIP DEVILLE (Kipling) recorded a sharp win in the one-mile Bryan Station S. in October at Keeneland and boasts a sterling mark at the distance on turf (6-5-0-0), registering a neck score in the Frank E. Kilroe Mile H. (G1) most recently. He earned a 104 Speed and 103 Late Pace rating for that stellar effort, and Edgar Prado will pick up the mount on the dangerous Richard Dutrow runner. The gray four-year-old drew the far outside post, but Kip Deville can use his speed to avoid going too wide into the first turn. It's easy to envision him having a say in the outcome.

REMARKABLE NEWS (Ven) (Chayim) is one to consider for the exotics. He's run twice at Keeneland, recording a convincing allowance score last April and a good second in the Shadwell Turf Mile S. (G1) in October, and he received a tightener for this event, winning a Gulfstream allowance/optional claimer last out for Angel Penna Jr. The five-year-old horse will be forwardly placed from the start under Rene Douglas, and his affinity for the course is an advantage.

OLD DODGE (Brz) (Dodge) finished third in the Shadwell Turf Mile and tuned up for Friday's appearance with a solid third in the Appleton H. (G3) at Gulfstream Park. Considering his strong effort over the course six months ago, Old Dodge can't be dismissed from consideration for a minor award. But he's in tough here. SKY CONQUEROR (Sky Classic) won three straight before concluding 2006 with a third in the Canadian International S. (Can-G1), and the Darwin Banach trainee was voted champion turf horse in Canada. The five-year-old owns top-notch figures, but he's done his best running at Woodbine and finished third versus allowance rivals in his last start at Keeneland. Sky Conqueror did get very good last fall, but we'll give him a race in this spot.

PURIM (Dynaformer) tired to fifth in the Mineshaft H. (G3) on the main track last time, but the five-year-old has some back class on the grass. However, this company is probably too difficult. FREE THINKING (Unbridled) finished second in the Kelso Breeders' Cup H. (G2) and Firecracker Breeders' Cup H. (G2) last year, and he's trained well at Turfway for his first appearance this season. However, the six-year-old could find himself overmatched here. STORM CALLER (Stormy Atlantic) doesn't look good enough to be competitive.

5 BORDONARO SPAWR WILLIAM MIGLIORE R 121
6 OFF DUTY WHITING LYNN S ELLIOTT S 113

BORDONARO (Memo [Chi]) will defend his title in Friday's $150,000 Count Fleet Sprint H. (G3) against only five rivals, and the classy six-year-old gelding looks like the controlling speed in the six-furlong event. He turned in one of his best career efforts at Oaklawn Park last season, easily winning the Count Fleet and registering a 111 BRIS Speed rating, and he's been training forwardly for Bill Spawr in preparation for this year's edition. Bordonaro catches a pretty soft group of rivals, and he'll probably lead wire-to-wire under Richard Migliore.

MACH RIDE (Pentelicus) finished third behind eventual Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-G1) victor Kelly's Landing (Patton) in the Mr. Prospector H. (G3) two starts back and didn't run poorly when fifth against an excellent field in the Richter Scale Breeders' Cup Sprint Championship H. (G2) last out. He ran well last summer for trainer Steve Standridge, winning the Valid Video S. and finishing second in the Carry Back S. (G2), and he appears to be rounding into top form presently. We wouldn't be surprised to see a strong showing from the rail.

A wet track is possible, and RODEO'S CASTLE (Rodeo) ran well when third in the sloppy Hot Springs S. last year. The Beverly Fowler trainee likes Oaklawn (11-3-2-3) and owns plenty of stakes experience. He exits a pair of solid third-place efforts locally, and he could grab a small share at long odds on Friday.

SEMAPHORE MAN (Formal Gold) captured the King Cotton S. two starts back but faltered at 3-5 in the Hot Springs last time. The Kelly Von Hemel runner owns an admirable 8-5-1-2 mark over the track, and he merits serious respect for the bottom of the exacta.

JUNIOR COLLEGE (Ide) exits a solid score in the Hot Springs, but he'll have a difficult time duplicating that effort here. OFF DUTY (Yes It's True) is two for two at six furlongs, but his Speed ratings look a little low.

HORSE RACING
TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Fantastic Spring - Ran big last time off a 14-month hiatus and for new trainer Miller; repeat effort makes her the one to beat.

Kaitlyn's Light - Been away 11-months, but showed ability last spring; watch the tote and see if she takes a lot of early action.

Long Shot - Island Lightning

Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Sail On Sunshine - Suspect Chavez will be more aggressive today with the lack of real speed in here; he must sit closer to win.

Kokopelli Trail - Bad parking lot post, Pedroza may take back and try to tuck in before the first turn; facing many slowpokes today.

Long Shot - Stingoftruth

Race 3 - 7 furlongs, Purse $55,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 4-year-olds and up

Grinding It Out - Broke slow in last, then found his best stride in the late stages; second start off a 10-month hiatus can improve.

Peace Chant - Ran a career best race in last off a 13-month sabbatical; key is whether he can pair up big races or if he regresses.

Long Shot - Publication

Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $25,000, Starter allowance $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Crocetta - Have to love the way Talamo looks in the saddle, maybe the next "natural"; good value as she is making her turf debut.

Promise of Spring - Tepid chalk has cashed two paychecks in two turf starts; she is fairly consistent but has lacked a killer instinct.

Long Shot - The Cat Did It

Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up

Nationhood - Taking an enormous class drop from $50k to $25k; need not be much to handle these, like the parking lot post too.

Caribbean's Herd - Took to the lower class in last with aplomb; doesn't figure to see a lot of pace, so Garcia must be aggressive.

Long Shot - Rush Ahead

Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $24,000, Claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up

Hoot - Gets class relief today facing a much softer group; like that Espinoza remains loyal, will sit midpack and grind it out late.

Captain Sacto - Big run in last, now a major rider switch to Chavez for the money shot; may be peaking for a winning performance.

Long Shot - Away Down South

Race 7 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $59,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 4-year-olds and up

True Dancer - Mullins barn is heating up as we get closer to the Hollywoood meeting; like the switch to Espinoza, he can finish.

Gem Proof - Did everything but win last time in a terrific effort; key is he may have squeezed the lemon dry, needs another big try.

Long Shot - Running Free

Race 8 - 1 mile, Purse $16,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Late Date - Ran OK in a sprint, now stretching back out around 2-turns and taking the weight off; bugboy Williams hasn't had many shots.

Flower Hill - Tepid chalk in maybe the hardest race of the pick 6; showed tactical speed in last to sit a trip and grind it out late.

Long Shot - Melodious

Best Bet - Sail On Sunshine (race 2)

Hail Bb

Great job in doing this for us I don't know how you get the paid picks But if I find some I would to share them with you as well. But you would most likely have them on the screen.
I am posting bucksfan picks (in the Tout Section) and can't post them in the basball thread I think he is no longer a tout but you are presenting tout picks to us here So I don't quite understand Why?
Anyway I look for certain people that explain the game and decide if I like it to bet on or not,so far I am up like 2 grand in the past week or so with my man and that is not like me.

Thanks BB and keep it up as I never have enough time in the day to look for what you are doing. You save me big time.

Hail to BB
:pope: :pope: :pope: :pope:

I have already selected my picks for today
Just have to wait to 3:30 to make the call

Bonus Play: Las Vegas Gladiators vs Georgia Force
The Gladiators have very little offense. So far this season they are 1-5 and have managed to score a total of 265 points over the six games while allowing 375 points. The one game they did win was on the road to Grand rapids back in the first week. Las Vegas is averaging 44.5 ppg and allowing an average of 62.5 ppg. Georgia is the opposite of the Gladiators-the Force is 5-1 to start the season. This team has put up a total of 412 points over 6 games and allowed 336 in total. They are averaging 68.5 ppg and allowing 56 ppg. Take the total to go over. Predicted score: Force 70 Gladiators 40 .

Marc Lawrence
Bonus Play: Detroit
Pistons vs Toronto Raptors
Toronto over Detroit Raptors have held the edge over the Pistons in this series of late going 15-5-1 ATS, and that was largely when they were a lousy team. With Detroit in off a home win on Wednesday and looking forward to returning home for a game on Sunday, look for Toronto to get revenge from a loss suffered in the most recent meeting in this series here tonight. Be sure to join me tonight for a KILLER PLAY in the NBA that is 100% PERFECT ATS since 1990. It's my NBA Fan Appreciation Game of the Week. Get it now, you'll be glad you did!

DAVE COKIN
903) HOU Astros and (904) PHI Phillies

Take the Tigers

SCOTT SPREITZER

LT PROFITS
Houston Astros (105)
Fri Apr 13 '07 7:05p

While we have a lot of respect for both of these starting pitchers, we do feel that Roy Oswalt has the edge tonight and is worth an investment at this price.

Oswalt has looked terrific in his first two starts, allowing exactly one run and five hits in each of those efforts. He is a bona fide Cy Young candidate, provided the Astros could scratch out enough runs for him to win 20 games. Oswalt is also a perfect four for four in terms of Quality Starts in his career vs. Philadelphia. Now Phillies ace Brett Myers was roughed up by Florida in his last outing, but he did toss a fine game in his first start vs. Atlanta, so we do expect a nice bounce-back effort today.

Still, this is simply a case of a very good pitcher in Myers running into a great pitcher in Oswalt. With the Houston offense showing signs of a pulse in the last two games vs. the Cubs, we look for the Astros to eke out just enough runs for the victory here.

Houston Astros @ Philadelphia Phillies Under8.0

We are looking for a good old-fashioned pitching duel in this matchup between Cy Young candidate Roy Oswalt and Philadelphia ace Brett Myers.

Oswalt looks to already be in mid-season form, as he has a 1.08 ERA and a miniscule 0.72 WHIP over his first two starts, covering 16.2 innings. He has also allowed a grand total of two runs in 24.2 innings over his last three starts against the Phillies, and he is four for four in Quality Starts in his career against them.

Myers is a much better pitcher than he showed in his last start in Florida, and he did pitch well in his seasonal debut here at home vs. Atlanta, allowing three runs on just four hits in 7.2 frames. He is also four for five in his career in Quality Starts vs. Houston, including a fine start in his only outing against the Astros last season where he allowed three runs and five hits in seven innings.

The Under is now 9-2-1 in the last 12 head-to-head meetings between these clubs, and given this matchup, look for that pattern to continue here.

VEGAS EXPERTS
San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves
Friday, April 13th, 8:05 PM EDT

Absence of Kevin Garnett should free up the other Minnesota players to get more involved and make it harder for San Antonio to game-plan since they won't know what to expect. Regardless, Spurs will pull their starters if they get a big lead, making the cover problematic. T-Wolves are 13-11 S/U at home vs. the Spurs and 12-10-2 ATS. Supporting angle says to Play On - Home underdogs of 10 or more points (MINNESOTA) - after 3 or more consecutive losses, second half of the season (39-15 since 1996, 72.2%).

Selection: Oakland Athletics -110

Reason: Put us down on the Oakland Athletics (-110) for our Free MLB Selection on Friday. Today the New York Yankees will be on the road as they battle the Oakland Athletics. We will side with the Oakland Athletics. To say the least, the Oakland Athletics have a huge advantage on the mound in tonight's game. The New York Yankees will send to the mound Kei Igawa. Kei Igawa struggled in his first start this season (giving up 7 runs in 5 innings), and we see him struggling again tonight. While the Oakland Athletics are scoring many runs, we see the New York Yankees struggling to score. That's because the Oakland Athletics will send to the mound Danny Haren. Danny Haren has pitched solid so far this season. In two starts, Danny Haren has pitched 13 innings (giving up only 1 earned run - 0.69 ERA). We expect another solid start by Danny Haren. The Oakland Athletics are a perfect 2-0 against the New York Yankees (when Danny Haren starts), and should be able to get another win tonight! Take the Oakland Athletics!

Analysis: Play On: New York Knicks
Note: Knicks play with double revenge against cross town rival Nets who enter off last night's revenge clash with the Cavs in Cleveland. New York, meanwhile, checks in off BB losses, the last an embarrassing 29-point beating at Chicago in which they scored a season-low 69 points. That sets the table for this game as NBA conference road dogs of 12 < points playing off BB losses who scored < 70 points in their last game are 12-0 ATS since 1990 if they are playing with at least same season double revenge and own a win percentage of < .466. Look for the Knicks to lay it all on the line here tonight.

LARRY COOK / INFO PLAYS

3* on San Antonio -10.5

The Spurs are playing for playoff positioning while Minnesota is completely out of the playoff hunt. The Timberwolves are also playing without their best player in Kevin Garnett. Garnett has a quadricep injury and missed their last game in a 17-point loss to the Mavericks at home. Dallas had already clinched the #1 seed and still put a thumping on the Timberwolves, playing mostly reserves the whole game. San Antonio has won 5 straight games, and are 4-1 ATS in those games. Minnesota is 6-21-2 ATS in their last 29 games overall.

Lay the points in a Spurs’ double-digit blowout tonight.

Tom Stryker's 25-8 ATS NBA Crusher of the Week
#510 MIAMI (-) over Indiana by 19 at 8:05 PM EST

Miami stars Dwayne Wade and Shaquille O'Neal will both be in the starting lineup tonight for the first time since February 21st! That's a good thing for the Heat. Indiana has been a thorn in Miami's side lately. The Pacers have won two straight in this series and own a surprising 20-5 SU and 15-7-3 ATS mark in the last 25 meetings. Those numbers will start to turn tonight.

Since December 10th, 2004, Miami has played extremely well at home posting a strong 103-29 SU and 73-55-4 ATS record. In this role locked into a win-win set (both teams enter off straight up victories), the Heat ignite to a sizzling 26-12-2 ATS including 25-8-2 ATS in this role matched up against an opponent that owns a won/loss percentage less than .700.

The Pacers aren't playing their best basketball right now - 6-19 SU and 8-16-1 ATS in their last 25 games - and stand a dismal 3-17 SU and 7-11-2 ATS as a guest battling winning teams. In a revenge mode and with a chance to crush Indy's playoff hopes, Wade and Shaq will get the job done. Take Miami. Thank you and best of luck, Tom Stryker

Larry Ness' 15* Underdog GOW (NINE straight MLB wins / 10-0 TY with 15* GOW plays!)
My 15* play is on the StL cards at 8:10 ET. I've always really liked Ben Sheets but he's rarely stayed healthy and he suffers greatly by pitching for Milwaukee. The Brewers are a brutal road team, going 27-54 in 2006 and have opened 2007 at 0-3 away from Miller Park. Sheets opened 2007 with a dominating CG two-hitter over the Dodgers but then struggled against the Cubs, allowing nine hits and five runs (in six innings) in a 6-3 Saturday home loss. More bad news comes Sheets' way tonight, as he starts in St Louis against the Cards. The defending champs opened the season by getting swept at home by the Mets in a three-games series, getting outscored 20-2. However, they've bounced back to win five of six at Houston and Pittsburgh. Now, they are back home against the poor-traveling Brewers plus will be facing a pitcher they've DOMINATED! In 21 career stars, Sheets is 4-11 with a 4.04 ERA against the Cards (he's lost his last five decisions), with the Brewers going just 6-15 in the 21 games! Anthony Reyes starts for St Louis and he wouldn't be my first choice but so what? The Cards have DOMINATED Sheets, the Brewers CAN'T win on the road and St Louis went 39-16 at home vs right-handers (including the postseason) in 2006. Underdog GOW 15* StL Cardinals.

GOLD KEY GAMES:
3 Units (Bonus Play):
Atlanta Hawks +2
Silver Key (Bonus Play): Seattle Mariners PICK (WASHBURN)
Gold Key (Paid Play): New Orleans Hornets -1
The Hornets under Head Coach Byron Scott are still vying for the eighth and final Playoff seed out of the West. Their current record is 37-41 Straight Up and 46-31 Against The Spread this season. The Hornets will be playing their last regular season game in Oklahoma City before a sellout crowd, and desperately need a win to make the post season. Positive trends include 25-15 ATS at Home, 11-6 ATS on Friday nights, 18-13 ATS versus winning teams, and 25-13 ATS in Revenge mode.
The Nuggets under Head Coach George Karl enter this Conference match up out of the Northwest Division, and they stand at 42-36 SU and 43-34 ATS on the year. They have clinched a Playoff appearance, and are in fine fettle having won seven games in a row SU while covering five of them ATS. The Nuggets look to continue their skein here tonight. Negative trends include 7-13 ATS on Friday nights, and 20-26 ATS after a Division game.
The line overnited at Hornets -1. We'll go with the Home Hornets to win here tonight in a Gold Key Play

double-dime bet505 NYK 9.0 (-110) vs 506 NJN

Analysis: Last night we cashed with Cleveland against New Jersey and we are going to fade New Jersey once again tonight. New Jersey travels back home to battle the Knicks who come off an embarrassing loss in Chicago 2 days ago. Look for a BIG effort from New York tonight as they look to play spoiler. This one goes down to the wire as New Jersey doesn't respond well to bad losses. NEW JERSEY is 5-16 ATS off a road loss by 10 points or more over the last 2 seasons. Larry Ness' Oddsmaker's Error-MLB (winning streak reaches 9-0 in MLB after Thursday win!)
My Oddsmaker's Error Play is on the Oak A's at 10:05 ET. I guess having almost $200 million in payroll, CAN'T buy you a pitching staff, huh George? Wang opened the year on the DL and prospect Karstens has elbow problems. Mussina and Rasner both left their starts with injuries and tonight the Yankees throw lefty Igawa at Oakland, in his second ML start. His first didn't go so well, allowing eight hits (two HRs). three walks and seven runs in five innings to the Orioles at Yankee Stadium last Saturday (got bailed out when A-Rod hit a walk-off grand slam). Yankee starters have a 6.38 ERA so far, the second-worst mark in MLB. Meanwhile, Oakland's starters own MLB's best ERA, at 1.98. Danny Haren, a 14-game winner in each of the last two seasons (he's on the verge of becoming one of the AL's best hurlers!), has allowed just one ER in 13 innings this year (0.69 ERA) but has opened 0-2. He's due and why not get that first win of '07 against the Yanks? The A's were 11-5 at home last year vs lefties at night and Friday surely face a lefty they can handle, in Igawa. Also, Haren is 3-0 (2.75) in five career starts vs the Yanks (team is 4-1), as the A's have given him 32 runs of support in those five games. Only the Yankee "name" keeps this price so low. Oddsmaker's Error on the Oak A's.

Game: Houston at Philadelphia (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Houston +103

Good pitching match-up in Philly tonight with Roy Oswalt vs. Bret Myers. They both are capable of dominating a lineup. Oswalt has dominated the Philly lineup and since the bulk of the power hits from the left side he has done a great job keeping them in check. Oswalt is 4-0 0.69 ERA vs. the Phils in the last three seasons. Myers has struggled to a 1-1 record against the Astro's, but in each of the last three seasons has pitched to a higher ERA against the Astro's than his season as a whole. Oswalt has thrown a very high percentage of quality starts on the road as he has been 26-8 the last two years in that category, while Myers is just 20-13 at home.

The value lies with the Astros in this one

6* Widow Wiseguy NBA Blowout of the Month on Chicago -10

The Chicago Bulls will have no problem blowing the Bobcats out of the water tonight. The Bulls have done just that in their last 2 home games. They beat the New Jersey Nets by 31 points at home on the 6th of April. Then they beat the New York Knicks by 29 points on the 10th of this month at home. Charlotte lost to the Bulls in their last meeting in Chicago by 39 points with a final score of 115-76. That was earlier this season, but there is no doubt that the Bulls win this one by double figures as well. Lay the points.

Guaranteed Pick: Big Al Mcmordie

Game: New York Yankees at Oakland Athletics Apr 13 2007 10:05PM
Prediction: under
Reason: At 10:05pm our selection is on the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics 'under' the total. So far it's been the Red Sox' Daisuke Matsuzaka that has been getting all the attention as far as Japanese imports in 2007 are concerned. And that's probably just fine with the New York Yankees and their latest star from the land of the rising sun, lefthanded starter Kei Igawa. Igawa's numbers compare very favorably with those of Matsuzaka, and there is at least one thing he has done that Dice-K has not accomplished over in Japan and that is to be a 20 game winner (the 17 games that Dice-K won last year was a career high for him). Igawa is probably thrilled that his Japanese counterpart can't go anywhere without a hoard of photographers following him while the Yankee southpaw just slips quietly under the radar. Pitching on the other side in this one is another young, but very accomplished pitcher in righthander Dan Haren. Haren has really come into his own the last 2 seasons and he is ready to have a truly breakout performance in 2007. Oakland's biggest concern right now however has to be the lack of noise coming from its bats. Amazingly, the A's have scored more than 4 runs in only 1 of their 10 games played so far. These two teams played some pretty stingy games last year as 5 of the last 8 contests between them went a total of only 7 runs or fewer. Take the 'under'. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. And don't miss my other big winners on Friday.

L.A. Angels +1.?? Over BOSTON PINNACLE

No line on this game yet because the Red Sox were cancelled yesterday and Wakefield was scheduled to start. They’ll wait to confirm that the Red Sox won’t skip him before posting a number for this one. However, we’re playing the Angels whatever the price is because John Lackey will be going for us. Lackey has turned into one of the most reliable starters in the business and already this year he’s 2-0 with an ERA of 0.75. He’s given up just two runs in 12 innings and he throws strikes. The Angels bullpen is as solid as any. Boston is just 4-4 after playing K.C., Texas and Seattle. Red Sox bats have not been very inconsistent and they’re just not in a groove yet; the Angels are. Play: L.A. Angels +1.?? (Risking 2 units).

PITTSBURGH –1½ +1.44 over San Francisco PINNACLE

Russ Ortiz is a used up and worn out pitcher who has been struggling for the better part of the last three years just to get a single man out. How he landed a job as a starter is a bigger mystery than how Phil (the Hat) Stacey has not been voted off American Idol. Against the Dodgers in five innings, Ortiz walked three and gave up seven hits. That’s 10 base-runners in five innings and the three runs he surrendered is very flattering to his ERA. The Dodgers hit .350 off him and he’s picked up where he left off last year when the opposition hit .340 off him and had a ridiculous slugging percentage of .655 to go along with his 8.14 ERA. He has maybe a week or two left as a major league pitcher. The Giants not only have a dud going tonight but this team has been seeing BB’s all year too. Overall the Giants have scored 20 runs in nine ball games. Zach Duke throws strikes and he’s just going to get better. He’s only walked one batter in 13 innings thus far and he was effective in both starts, at Cinci and Houston, two pretty good hitter’s parks. We’re going to lay the runs here because the Pirates should be able to score a bunch and San Fran has showed us zilch. Play: Pittsburgh –1½ +1.44 (Risking 2 units).

Florida –1.01 over ATLANTA PINNACLE

Dontrelle Willis has simply been lights out in April over his career and that’s good enough for us. In fact, Willis is 11-1 with a 2.40 ERA in 17 career April starts and this year has been no different, as he’s off to a 2-0 start with an ERA of 3.00. Mark Redman was crushed in his Braves debut, giving up nine hits and five earned runs in five innings of work. Willis over Redman paying a penny seems very reasonable to us. Play: Florida –1.01 (Risking 2.02 units to win 2).

LOS ANGELES/San Diego over 8 +1.07 PINNACLE

David Wells had a strong start but that was in San Diego, a park that could make any pitcher look good. At 44-years of age we’re not convinced that one outing is a true sign of things to come. Chavez Ravine is pitcher friendly too but not like Petco Park and Wells is still overwight and out of shape. Derek Lowe is a one-pitch pitcher with a deadly slider but it wasn’t effective in his first start and we trust the Padres can score in the neighborhood of three runs or four runs here. That should be plenty to aid us in this wager, as we don’t see a low-scoring, seven run game or less taking place in this one. Play: over 8 +1.07 (Risking 2 units).

Houston +1.02 over PHILADELPHIA PINNACLE

The equation here is a simple one. When we can get Roy Oswalt at a price, we’re in. Oswalt has been as sharp as humanly possible in two starts throwing a combined 16.2 innings and allowing just two earned runs while walking just two batters. The opposition hit just .175 against Oswalt in his two starts. The Phillies will counter with Brett Myers, whom has surrendered three bombs and nine earned runs in 12 innings. The Phillies are off to another bad start and to make matters worse, it’s bullpen is a huge liability. The Phillies are 0-3 at home while the Astros are 2-0 on the road and thus, everything here points to another Phillies loss. Play: Houston +1.02 (Risking 2 units).

Colorado +1.37 over SAN DIEGO

David Wells starts his 21st season in the majors here after appearing in just 13 games last season. In fact, Wells threw just 75 frames last year, allowing 97 hits to go along with a 4.42 ERA, which is very unimpressive when you consider Petco Park in San Diego. Wells is 44-years-old and has lived a life filled with the consumption of beer and hamburgers. This past spring Wells through 13.1 innings and was torched to the tune of 24 hits and 15 earned runs for an ERA of 9.88. So, to recap, Wells is 44, he’s never met a hamburger he didn’t like, he’s out of shape, he was buried in the spring and he his worn-out arm has over 3200 major league innings on it. Does it really matter who’s pitching for the Rockies? We think not and the fact that Wells is a -1.45 favorite here is ludicrous. Play: Colorado +1.37 (Risking 2 units).

NHL:

HOME TEAM IN CAPS

San Jose/NASHVILLE over 5½ +1.12 PINNACLE

It would appear to us that the NHL is doing everything in its power to make sure there are plenty of goals scored in these playoffs. Playoff time attracts more fans, which in turn increases interest in sponsorship and television. Commissioner Gary Bettman has obviously instructed the refs to call penalties at every opportunity and what we’ve seen the first two days of playoffs is a ton of man-advantages and a bunch of 5 on 3’s. Bettman has tuned the playoffs into a mockery, just like he’s done with everything else. The penalties being called are outrageous and Don Cherry, a hockey man in every sense of the word, has called the it a travesty. These two clubs have a ton of offensive power and both possess a tremendous power-play. Game one had nine goals and frankly, we don’t see this being a 3-2 game. Play: over 5½ +1.12 (Risking 2 units).

Let's take a look at the Milwaukee Brewers vs. the St. Louis Cardinals matchup tonight. Milwaukee will send Ben Sheets to the mound, but he hasn't been very sharp in his career against St. Louis, going 4-13 while losing five straight decisions against them. The Cardinals will counter with Anthony Reyes, who pitched pretty good in his one start this year, giving up 3 earned runs in 5 innings at Houston against Roy Oswalt. The Cardinals are hungry to get their first home victory on the season, and Pujols is batting .387 (24-for-62) with five homers and 10 RBIs in his career against Ben Sheets.

Play is St. Louis Cardinals +110 at BetUS

Pick 'n' roll: Friday's best NBA bets

By Covers.com staff

Washington at Atlanta: Wizards -2
Talk about a game missing some star power. The Washington Wizards are without All-Stars Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler, while Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith still has one game left to serve of his two-game suspension. Smith was suspended by his team after getting into a shouting match with head coach Mike Woodson.
Washington has played much better without Arenas and Butler than its 0-3 record indicates. They have lost by an average of only 4.3 points over their last three games and gone 2-1 against the spread during that time.
“This has been the story for the last three or four games,” Wizards forward Jarvis Hayes told the Washington Post. “We played good for three and a half quarters but when it gets down to the last couple of minutes, the other teams make an extra play, get a stop and make a key bucket down the stretch. They just made the plays and we didn’t.”
The Wizards shouldn’t have to worry about a depleted Hawks team making many plays tonight. In addition to Smith, the Hawks are still missing Joe Johnson and Josh Childress.

San Antonio at Minnesota: Spurs -10 ½
Any fight the Minnesota Timberwolves still had in them dissolved immediately after news that the team’s best player and team leader, Kevin Garnett, is likely done for the season. The All-Star power forward is sitting out because of pain in his right quadriceps.
Garnett’s injury has raised the question if Minnesota is purposely tanking in hopes of improving their lottery chances. The Timberwolves owe a first-round pick to the Los Angeles Clippers from a past trade, but the Wolves can keep the pick if they end up with a top 10 selection after the lottery.
This situation is eerily similar to last season. The Wolves were in line to hand over their pick to the Clippers, but Garnett sat out the last six games of the season and Minnesota ended up protecting their pick.
“This has nothing to do with the draft pick,” Garnett’s agent Andy Miller told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “It’s important to us to make sure KG gets well. It’s a nagging thing. He does everything he can, he gives 110 percent, he runs through bricks walls for his teammates. At this stage, it’s something he needs to take care of.”
The San Antonio Spurs are rolling and hot in pursuit of the Phoenix Suns for the second seed in the West. If the Spurs continue their success, they should roll over the Wolves tonight.

New York at New Jersey: Knicks +9
We know the New York Knicks aren’t playing well right now but nine points seems like too much to lay on the New Jersey Nets. They have won six of their last 10 games but those wins came against lottery-bound teams and the injury-riddled Wizards.
As for the Knicks, they should have some motivation for tonight’s game. Knicks players were upset after Tuesday’s 69-98 loss to the Chicago Bulls and accused the Bulls of running up the score for a fan promotion. If the Bulls hit the century mark, fans would have received free Big Macs from local McDonald's restaurants.
“I think they definitely were trying to rub it in,” Knicks center Eddy Curry told the New York Daily News. “We’ll see them next year.”
The Knicks can take their anger out on the Nets tonight. New York has covered in three of the last four meetings against New Jersey.

Dr.B

I have two NBA Best Bets for Friday along with one NBA Opinion and one Arena Football Opinion for tonight.

Saturday release time at 11:15 am Pacific.

3 Star Selection
***MIAMI (-6 ½) over Indiana
05:05 PM Pacific - Rotation 510
Miami will have Shaquille O’Neal back in the lineup, along with Dwyane Wade, tonight and the Heat should have no trouble beating up on the overrated Pacers. Indiana has been 3.7 points worse than an average team since trading Al Harrington and Stephen Jackson to the Warriors for Mike Dunleavy and Troy Murphy (-3.1 points with Jermaine O’Neal playing) and the Pacers have not been able to compete with superior teams on the road. Indiana has played 10 road games since the trade against teams that currently have a better record than they do and they’ve lost those 10 games by an average of 18.1 points with all 10 games resulting in a loss of 8 points or more. My ratings favor Miami by 9 points in this game and the Heat apply to the same 179-91-5 ATS situation that won for us last night with Cleveland. I’ll take Miami in a 3-Star Best Bet at -8 points or less, for 4-Stars at -6 points or less, and for 2-Stars at -8 ½ or -9 points.

2 Star Selection
**CHICAGO (-10) over Charlotte
05:35 PM Pacific - Rotation 518
Charlotte swept a home and home series with Miami, who was without Shaquille O’Neal for both games, but the Bobcats tend to letdown after consecutive wins, as they are just 6-16-1 ATS lifetime after back-to-back victories, including 2-13-1 ATS against a rested foe. Chicago has been beating up on teams all season at home, as they’re average scoring margin at home is +10.3 points, and the Bulls are 8- 3 ATS as a home favorite of 9 points or more. Charlotte also applies to a very negative 11-54-2 ATS big road underdog letdown situation. The Bobcats have some injury questions tonight, with Gerald Wallace listed as questionable and with Matt Carroll listed as questionable after missing the last two games. If everyone plays then my ratings would favor Chicago by 10 points and I’d favor the Bulls by 11 points if Wallace doesn’t play. I’ll assume that Wallace will play for the Bobcats and I’ll take Chicago in a 2-Star Best Bet at -11 points or less. Friday NBA Opinions/Possible Best Bet

TORONTO (-6) over Detroit

Toronto has covered the spread in 8 consecutive games and the Raptors apply to the same 179-91-5 ATS situation that applied to Cleveland last night. Detroit is most likely going to play their starters limited minutes in their final 4 games and I’d favor Toronto by 5 points in this game if the Pistons play their starters 24 minutes each and the oddsmakers opened the line at Toronto by 4 ½ already knowing that Detroit was planning to give their starters fewer minutes. Unfortunately, that line has gone up and I’m not interested in chasing points. I’ll consider the Raptors an opinion at -6 or -5 ½ points but I’d make Toronto a 2-Star Best Bet at -5 points or less.

Arena Football
Last week was my first venture into Arena League Football and I bet one game, a winner on Georgia as an underdog over Philadelphia. My 4 opinions only went 1-3, but I believe that the indicators that work in the NFL and College football will work in the AFL. I have also created a math model that I believe to have some merit but the math and the indicators are pointing towards opposite sides in most games this week. I have not played any AFL games this week, as none stood out like Georgia did last week, but I do have one Strong Opinion.
NEW ORLEANS (+10) over San Jose
New Orleans applies to one of the indicators that works well in the NFL and the Voodoo are 4-0 ATS as a home underdog in their history. My math would favor San Jose by just 4 points if New Orleans quarterback Andy Kelly was healthy enough to play (he’s been downgraded to doubtful) but my math favors the Sabercats by 7 ½ points with Bellisari behind center for the Voodoo. I would have played New Orleans with Kelly at quarterback, but I’ll consider the Voodoo a Strong Opinion with Bellisari at quarterback.
