hey uncle steve.. i just noticed something with that formula i gave you from the bob mccune book.. with the way the formula is written it puts hardly any weight upon the batting average and on base % so I realized an important adjustment that needs to be made.. email me or can I ask wilheim for your email?

what needs to be done is this... lets say you use on base .320 and BA .275, well you add those and divide by two but you'll get a real tiny number.. if you use 320 and 275 you'll get a larger number but it still won't be nearly as large as the Total Bases * RUns scored / games played.. What you need to do is rank the teams from top to bottom in Both Factor A and Factor B separately... Give the lowest ranking a score of 100, then take the second smallest number and divide it by the smallest number and multiply by 100,, keep doing this in succession.. So then the third smallest number divided by the smallest number * 100 etc..etc..
Do this for both Factor A and Factor B.. So For Factor A using last years numbers in the AL factor A for the Yankees would have been the highest as they would have a number of 113.88 and Tampa Bay would have the lowest at 100.. For factor B the the Yankees would have the highest at 153.14 and tampa would have the lowest at 100..
This way there is a more even weight placed upon Factor A and Factor B.. I'm surprised that bob failed to mention this in his book, i brushed right over this and failed to notice early on. Unless that method was what he intended to use.. its just that if you had a Factor A of let's say 300 and a factor B of 11,000 it just seems like there isn't nearly enough weight placed on Factor A
Here are last year's final regular season team power numbers for the AL:

1. Detroit 158.27
2. New York 156.68
3. Minnesota 152.75
4. Toronto 145.28
5. Cleveland 144.86
6. Chicago 143.53
7. Texas 138.52
8. Angels 136.58
9. Oakland 133.53
10. Boston 128.51
11. Seattle 124.91
12. Baltimore 111.9
13. Tampa Bay 105.15
14. Kansas City 100

Here's the 2006 regular Season Team Ratings for the NL.. Notice the smaller gap between the teams, more parity in the league

1. Mets 131.83
2. Dodgers 128.35
3. San Diego 125.69
4. Philly 124.47
5. Atlanta 123.55
6. St. Louis 120.14
7. Houston 118.08
8. Colorado 116.35
9. Florida 116.35
10. Arizona 115.12
11. Cincy 110.71
12. Giants 109.2
13. Chicago 104.2
14. Pitts 102.27
15. Milwaukee 101.82
16. Washington 100

I hope this helps you if you read this
