I know many posters dislike Dusty who has won , but is a questionable in game manager....Frank Robinson has never really had the players.

Who would you hire, name some other good black candidates?

I think Eddie Murray would be an excellent manager.:103631605

I was thinking the same thing listening to Joe Morgan, but he's a little off. He's saying some managers who are black aren't getting 4 chances like other managers. How many white managers are getting more then 2 chances right now? Pinella??Leyland?? They've both won World Series with other teams. By the way, I agree. Frank Robinson has never had a decent team and hopefully he should get one more shot.

I doubt Frank will ever get another shot at his age.

Wish Frank would've gotten a shot with a good team. He might've been a bit unorthodox in how he handled his pitching staff, but he's a player's coach and his guys would do anything for him.

He's also one of the few no-nonsense, no-bullshit guys still left in baseball. Didn't put up with shit from no one.

Eddie would be good with the fundamentals, but would not be good handling the press.

I'm not sure anyone knows the game better than Eddie Murray, from a thinking mans point of view.....He is a baseball man , he was a very smart player and his teammates loved him....Even though Murray was on the decline by the time he reached the Dodgers , Tommy Lasorda said Murray was the best player he ever managed.

It would be interesting to see how he would deal with the press, he would be forced to deal with the press, something he hated from 1984 on.

Seems like a lot of managers were catchers in their playing careers.
Not a whole lot of black catchers were around.

My thesis points to Charles Johnson as the next great manager.

Best chance Frank had was the 1989 'Why Not' Orioles, they were tied for the East lead going into the final weekend, and lost the first 2 of 3 games up at Skydome to lose the division by one game.

That '89 team didn't have much talent, and had lost a record 22 straight games to start the 1988 season...it was quite a turnaround.

im also a big Frank Robinson fan. i think he did more with that nats team last year then most people realize. like skins said he was a no bull shit type of guy and in my opinion we need more coaches like that. i was hoping my giants would get him this year as an outside chance but realistically he is probably never gonna be a manager again.
