President_Dollar_Reverse.jpg

Probably quick to RR, as OT, but illustrative of US gov't stupidity nonetheless.

Briefly they are going to produce this useless coin ( its like the dollar coin with Sacagawa ( sp) same specs, run it with every dead president, produce billions of them, never to be used, complete idiocy by the gov't !

The quarter thing with the 50 states was/is OK because the quarter is used. This dollar program is truley nutz.

Has anybody received one of these in change, I haven't !

Making something that will never be used has a cost, IMO !

I wonder what bill this got attached to ?

That is pretty much how the £2 coin started here, eventually it found it's way to everyday use.

I don't see why people prefer notes for 1 unit to coins really.

I was at a bank two or three days ago and seen a tray with a
sleeve of the new coins. I asked for five of them and through them
in a cigar box.

It's what you get used to, thing is US peeps are used to $1 as paper, it goes back to when USD coin was very large in size ( pre-1936), it wasn't that popular then, then Eisenhower died in 1969, by 1971 they threw his image on a full size dollar coin from 1971-8... miserable failure...

then a small dollar coin since 1979...

It doesn't work, you can't have a one unit coin and bill, Canadians do it right.

In US, they will make these until they have billions of them, it is idiotic.

For what purpose did you throw them in a cigar box, or buy them in the first place ? Do you think they are going to be rare, and collectable ?

Its a fucking coin meant to be spent as money, jeez us Christ, every not everyday coin isn't a rarity, nobody else thinks to save this ? I guarantee you it is not worth saving.

I am collecting different coins for my seventeen year old son. Its not
so much as a collectors point. Its to teach him about saving collectable coins
and paper. Maybe someday his son can give them to his and down the
line. I seen you into coins. Its just something he can look at and know he
has.

I'm telling you guys, don't save this stuff, it ain't going anywhere, you could have rolls of 1971 Ike dollars worth like $1.50 a coin, 35 years later.

Trust me, don't stash these Washington dollars, or the John adams ones, or whoever was the 3rd president, maybe when they get to Zach Taylor, if not aborted by then.

A friend at work this year sold me twenty five of the Eisenhower
dollars for face value. They can't be worth much but the price
was right.

I'd suggest what is called a type set for him, you get the best example within reason of various denominations, for example in nickels the modern series with Jefferson, then the Buffalo nickel before it (1913-1938), then then the V-nickel before that ( 1883-1912), and so on.

A type set is great way to learn, budget can be under $10 to get the three nickels I mentioned ( there is an earlier series called, Shield, before that silver half-dimes), or big bucks for high grade stuff.

I'd be glad to help you, strongly suggest a type set, and reading. Quite frankly I have great expertise in US coinage, and would provide a free opinion to anyone here on a photo, or a less accurate one on a verbal description.

I get quite a few of the dollar coins (susie b, sackie, & the new george) from the vending machines where I work. I love hanging onto them for the simple reason that it's awesome throwing those things in my change jar for a rainy day.

They'll need to make a lot of them the way the dollar is going at the moment.

I like real coins, holding garbage like SBA,Sacagawawawas,GW's will never be +EV, way too common, always will be. The first year of any new coin is always widely saved... you can use this example... the new nickel from 1883-1912 vintage, 1883 is by far the most common date in uncirculated condition.

makes no difference, point is it doesn't circulate, irregardless of value of the dollar a $1 US coin can't circulate if there is a $1 bill, Canadians got this concept.

Every idiot American will save it. YOU CAN"T HAVE A DOLLAR COIN AND BILL (PAPER) AT THE SAME TIME, its very simple.

Gresham's law... bad money drives good money out of circulation, even though the metal money is better, the paper is preferred, so a twist.

The paper dollar is the good money, because the average American has the IQ of a cucumber.

I'm not attributing the Overton varities/ die marriages personally to this coin, I'm just saying I'll offer my opinion on any coin any RX member wishes my view on... US coinage only... a photo is way preferred... but I'll even do my best on a verbal general description. If really serious, I need good photos, and I don't buy, only opine.

To be clear, I posted that image of the 1818 quarter as good numismatic photography, not my coin... copied text might suggest I am attributing the coin, not so... just that I throw photography of a coin, as an example, and that is a good job.
