Spreadsheet Notes:

Service Play Spreadsheet Notes

Another day of inactivity for the services ranked at the top of the primary spreadsheet. Yesterday only four of the top ten ranked services had plays that were available for tracking and recording (after a weekend in which we only had eight of sixteen services with tracked plays).

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
So the top of the board pretty remained intact, with a pretty solid list of services hitting 70% or better (many over 75%). Here are the top services listed on the primary spreadsheet:

Power Play………………8~1……89%
Cannon (15~20*)………..9~2……82%
Larry Ness………………18~6….75%**
Big Al…………………....11~4......73%**
B. Coleman……………...24~9.….73%
B. Lang (15~20*)…….….8~3…...73%
Wunderdog…………..….8~3……73%**

** Larry Ness, Big Al and Wunderdog were active yesterday. The others were not. Larry Ness went 1~1, Big Al went 1~1 and Wunderdog went 1~0.

Service FADE Spreadsheet Notes

No big shakes on the Service FADE spreadsheet yesterday. A few services won, a few services lost and there are still some really great fade opportunities on the board. Here are the worst of the worst:

MTI……………………2~7……22%
Larry Ness (Free)….….2~6....…25%<o:p></o:p>

Stu Feiner (200*).……..3~9……25%
Gator…………….…….4~9.……31%

I will repost Bookie Buster’s service plays later today when I see his post in the NBA Forum.

Is there any service plays for the early games?

Not yet Smoothy. Bookie Buster typically posts the service plays over in the NBA Forum around 3:00 PM Central Standard Time. Sometimes it is earlier, but not usually. I will keep a look out for them and try to repost them here in the Bases Forum ASAP (keeping in mind I am at work and can not always be near my PC).

Game: Detroit at L A Angels (3:35 PM Eastern)
Pick: Detroit -107

The Tigers will send Jeremy Bonderman to the mound against the Angels and he has been their best pitcher in the early going. Bonderman has pitched four quality starts, but has yet to get a win to show for it. He has absolutely dominated this Angel lineup in his career. Bonderman has pitched 26 innings, yielded just 19 hits, 3 walks, 5 earned runs and 26 K's. He has held Guerrero to a .091 AVG, Kotchman and Molina are still looking for their first hit against him and he has held the entire lineup in check. The Tiger’s bats are showing signs of life and Sheffield, Ordonez, Guillen and Rodriquez combined for nine hits last night. Escobar has had a good start, but the Tiger’s hitters are warming up, several have good numbers against him so we ride the T-train today.

Tigers at Angels
Prediction: Angels
I'm playing the Angels on Tuesday afternoon. Kelvim Escobar is back on the hill tonight and ready to go according to manager Mike Scioscia. His numbers against Detroit are well publicized, but in case you didn't know, the right-hander is 8-0 with a 2.10 ERA in 18 appearnces against the Tigers (eight starts). The Angels also know they're likely to get a strong effort each time he starts at home. Escobar owned a 3.85 ERA in his last 35 home starts before this season. Detroit made Jered Weaver look more like his older brother Jeff last night, but don't expect the same results today. The Tigers will start Jeremy Bonderman who finished 14-8 with a 4.08 ERA in 2006 and owns a 2.25 ERA in four starts so far this season. But Bonderman really struggles in day action. Detroit went 6-12 in his afternoon outings over the last three seasons. Even in last year's 14-8 season, the righty finished just 1-6 in 11 day starts with a hefty 5.70 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP. Look for the Halos to bounce right back with a win on Tuesday. I'm playing LA with Escobar over Bonderman. (Note: The game has been moved to a 3:35pm ET start.)

Pick: Boston Red Sox

Roy Halladay is a great pitcher, one of the best in the game. But he's had lots of trouble at Fenway over the years and the hard hitting Red Sox should provide with some headaches tonight. Boston had the letdown off the Yankee sweep Monday night, but I look for them to be back on the beam tonight. Even though it's Halladay-Tavarez on the mound, taking the Red Sox at such generous odds at home is good value.

New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Devil Rays

Yankees have gone over five in a row on the road. Their bullpen is overworked and with Wang coming off the DL they can't count on him going more than five nor are they guaranteed how effective he will be. These are the top two scoring offenses in the A.L. in the early going: Tampa Bay's bullpen has been ineffective as well. NY YANKEES are 56-36 OVER in road games over the last 2 seasons. TAMPA BAY is 13-3 in all games this season.

(953) HOU Astros and (954) PIT Pirates

Take "(954) PIT Pirates"

The Astros have struggled against lefties this season at 1-4. They take on another southpaw on the road in Pittsburgh's Paul Maholm. This is only the 5th home game for the Pirates! Houston starter Woody Williams doesn't inspire any confidence. The aging righty is way past his prime (if he ever had a prime) and is 0-2 with a 6.55 ERA. He's already faced the Pirates once this season and gave up 8 hits, 2 walks in 4 innings (5.79 ERA).

1 Unit on LA Dodgers -151 (listing Lowe)

The Dodgers are 31-9 against the money line vs. a mediocre bullpen whose WHIP is 1.450 to 1.550 over the last 2 seasons. LA is a perfect 10-0 against the money line after having won 2 of their last 3 games this season. The Giants are just 5-20 against the money line revenging a loss where their opponent scored 10 or more runs over the last 3 seasons. With Lowe on the mound the Giants are getting shut down

Michael Cannon Money Train

10 Dime –

ANGELS (With Escobar as listed pitcher)
Take the Angels as a small home dog today over the Tigers.
Kelvim Escobar gets the nod today and he’s been pure money in his career against the Tigers. He’s a perfect 8-0 with a 2.10 ERA in eight career games against Detroit, allowing only 43 hits in 68 2-3 innings with 64 strikeouts.
Jeremy Bonderman goes for Detroit and although he’s posted a nice 2.25 ERA in four starts he has yet to register a victory.
With Vladimir Guerrero back and healthy it’s hard to go against an Angels team that is 8-3 at home this year.
Take the Angels at a small plus return for the win.

100-Unit AL Burial - DEVIL RAYS (play only with Kazmir as listed pitcher for Tampa Bay)

The Devil Rays outslugged the Yankees on Monday and today look for them to outpitch the Bronx Bombers.

Tampa Bay is sending young stud Scott Kazmir to the mound to face the Yankees’ Chien-Ming Wang. Kazmir faced New York on opening day and got a no-decision in the Devil Rays’ loss and Wang is making his season debut after coming off the disabled list.

The key for Kazmir is how he handles the red-hot Alex Rodriguez who hit two more home runs Monday. He now has 14 on the season and 34 RBIs, both leading numbers in the league.

New York has now lost four in a row and haven’t lost five straight since 2005. Tampa Bay has won the last two against the Yankees and four of the last six.

Chang is just 4-3 with a 3.62 ERA in eight starts against the Devil Rays.

The Yankees are struggling right now and sending Wang to the hill to try and stop the bleeding tonight. Can he stop the bleeding? Doubt it. Scott Kazmir is a damn good pitcher. He is going to shut down the Yankees’ lineup.

Take the plus money and the home team in this one. Just can’t lay any chalk with the Yankees the way they’re playing right now

Ethan Law:

COL: RHP Aaron Cook (0-1, 4.00 ERA) vs. NYM: RHP Orlando Hernandez (2-1, 3.24)
After yesterdays easy winner on Toronto +$185 were going examine again one of the largest underdogs on the board. I know a lot of these plays are not for the faint at heart, but remember Im first and foremost a value bettor and this match-up is an ideal situation for us to step in a steal another huge number. To the public eye, Colorado is struggling mightily over its last 12 posting a horrible 4-8 -$425 mark, while New York is 7-4 +$75 during the same span and now has a share of first place in the division. Colorado will send their opening day starter; right-hander Aaron Cook to the mound starter who has three no-decisions in four starts thus far. He hasn't faced the Mets since the last day of the 2005 season, when he tossed a complete-game victory. The last time Cook took the mound, the Rockies had a chance to complete a two-game sweep of the Dodgers on Thursday, but Cook struggled, walking four and giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits. Although Cook has struggled with the Dodgers, but he has pitched brilliantly against the Mets at Shea Stadium, going 1-0 with a 3.50 ERA in four appearances. He will be countered bye Orlando El Duque. Although the Colorado bats have not come alive much this season, it very hard to discount how well they have faired againt Hernandez. Todd Helton is 6-for-9 with a home run, four RBIs, two doubles and two walks against Hernandez; Left-fielder Brad Hawpe's is 5-for-10 with one home run, one double, one triple and three RBIs and their catcher, Yorvit Torrealba has a double and two home runs among five hits in six career at-bats against Hernandez. With the chalk so highlets back the Rockies and pray!

Verdict: Colorado 6, New York (NL) 3

HOME TEAM IN CAPS

All games are listed pitchers unless stated otherwise.

Oakland +1.00 over BALTIMORE (3:05 PM) SIA

The A’s always seem to step up their game at Camden Yards, as they’ve won 12 of their past 14 games at this venue. They won the opener last night and this afternoon they’ll face a reliever turned starter in Jeremy Guthrie. Relievers are essentially pitchers that couldn’t make it as starters and Guthrie is in that category. He’s made one start in his career and 18 relief appearances and will fill in today for Jaret Wright. In his brief career the opposition is hitting .293 off Guthrie and his career ERA is 5.60. Furthermore, his control is an issue, as he’s walked 27 in 45 innings and this year he’s already walked four in eight innings. If rotations were seven deep, Gutthrie would be the seventh man on every roster in the big leagues. The A’s have called up Dallas Braden to make his first major league start and this kid can pitch. Oakland's first-round pick in the 2004 draft, Braden was 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and .133 opponent bating average in three starts with Double-A Midland and Triple-A Sacramento. He threw six shutout innings and scattered three hits, but didn't receive a decision in his most recent start for the River Cats on Thursday. There’s been a ton of great pitchers that have come through the A’s system and Braden looks like another can’t miss. Wrong team favored. Play: Oakland +1.00 (Risking 2 units).

Detroit –1.06 over L.A ANGELS (3:35 PM) PINNACLE

Jeremy Bonderman continues to be one of the most consistent and effective pitchers in the majors. When he pitches the Tigers chances of winning are much better then losing. He does not have a decision this year but his ERA is 2.25 and he’s walked just three batters in 28 innings while striking out 21. We could run through his numbers but there’s no need to, the man is bringing it every game and through four starts there has not been a better in all of major league baseball. The Angels have struggled all year against quality pitchers and that should not change in this one. Kelvim Escobar has been off for 11 days and might not be as sharp as he usually is. Escobar can be tough but he’s not even close to being as consistent as Bonderman. Offensively, there’s no comparing these two, as the Tigers can bash with anyone while the Angels scratch and claw to get runs. Cheap price on Bonderman. Play: Detroit –1.06 (Risking 2.12 units to win 2).

Atlanta –1.04 over FLORIDA PINNACLE

Pay no attention to Marlins hurler, Rick Vander Hurk’s 13 k’s in 11 innings. He struck out five of the first six Brewers he faced to open the year but after that it’s been disaster. Vander Hurk is all over the place and he’s very hittable. The opposition has hit .368 off him in three starts and he has yet to make it out of the fifth inning in any of those. Throw in a Marlin’s bullpen that is in shambles, injuries to key players and the Braves 7-1 record vs right-handers and this one looks as good as any on the board today. Play: Atlanta –1.04 (Risking 2.08 units to win 2).

Let's take a look at the Cleveland Indians and the Minnesota Twins matchup tonight. Cleveland took the series opener last night in extra innings, sending the Twins to their second consecutive loss. Cleveland with send Fausto Carmona (0-1, 6.97 ERA) to the mound off a solid outing against the Yankees (2 earned runs in 6 inning pitched), but he has struggled with his control against this Twins team. In 5 appearances, he has walked 6 in 9 innings and holds a lifetime record of 0-1 against them. Minnesota needs a win tonight and will counter with ace Johan Santana (3-1, 3.00 ERA). Santana holds a 7-2 lifetime record against the Indians with an ERA of 3.00, and he is holding Indians slugger Travis Hafner to a batting average of only .130 (3-for-23).

Play is Twins -1.5 (-135)
