Service Play Spreadsheet Notes

A little bit of movement occurred on the top portion of the spreadsheet yesterday. Big Al and Stan Sharp (both went 1~0) moved up the board and Larry Ness (0~1) and B. Coleman (0~2) moved down slightly.

Keep up the good work, gentlemen. I have been mostly offline and not even betting on baseball this past week, figures.

I guess I need to rely on those bookie plays to decide what games I'd pick & actually make bets on them. With a subscription, it was a positive when I would always be able to access the play by 10am Eastern Time at one location, so I already know what I'm going to get.

But I would be happy with those posts when they are available anyway. Keep it up!

Not sure if you guys are interested or not, but here is the link to a FREE pick monitor that I have been using...

Some real good info there..

Maybe you can figure out how to just display the main page instead of the link...I don't want to direct traffic away from the Rx...but I don't know how to do that, so here is the link:

Game: Tigers at White Sox

Prediction: 'Over'

The Tigers were forced to put veteran starter Kenny Rogers, arguably most valuable player for 2006, on the DL right before the start of the season. That has opened up a door for guys like journeyman starter Chad Durbin. While the situation with Rogers has been a good thing for Durbin - giving him a chance to start games for the defending AL champs - it has not been a good thing for his team. Durbin's numbers throughout the years have been simply abysmal. The righty's lifetime record is 17-31 and his ERA is 6.31. Durbin's teams - he pitched for KC and Cleveland before joining Detroit - have lost seven of his last eight starts versus the White Sox. In three of those games, Chicago scored double-digit runs against the Tigers (the majority coming off of Durbin). It doesn't bode well for Durbin that Chicago is hitting almost 50 points higher against righties so far in 2007. On the other side of the diamond, the Sox will start one-time Ranger prospect John Danks. The southpaw's numbers are not pretty either, though much better than Durbin's. And Danks has much less experience and should only get better with more starts. Like Durbin, Danks will take to the hill knowing that Detroit hits much better versus lefties (.264 vs. .234). To make matters worse, the Tiger bats have really come alive lately (23 runs in the last three games). Take the 'over'.

Rangers at Indians

Prediction: Indians

C.C. Sabathia, the Indians' starting hurler for this tilt against the Rangers, has been in top form this season getting off to 3-0 start and garnering a stingy 2.25 ERA. The southpaw starter has a 21-game streak of not allowing more than four ERs. His pitching opponent, Texas RHP Vicente Padilla, has not looked good early in his current campaign having gone 0-3 and sporting a 6.00 ERA. In his lifetime starts against the Indians, Padilla owns a hefty 7.54 ERA. Needless to say, the pitching matchup heavily favors the host Indians. Final notes and trends: The Rangers are 2-7 on the road this season and have a team batting average of just .213 versus lefties. The Rangers are 0-6 in Padilla's last six starts against AL Central foes. The Indians have converted on the moneyline in 15 of their last 19 against right-handed starters. Play on Cleveland.

Play: Money Line: -138

Los Angeles Dodgers

Ai Simulator 3* graded play on the LA Dodgers - Supporting this graded play is a system that has gone 83-49 and has made 34.2 units in profits since 2001. Play against any team below average NL hitting team hitting AVG <=.255 against a team with a good bullpen sporting an ERA <=3.75, with a starting pitcher whose throws more than 6.5 innings per start. LA DODGERS are 31-9 (+20.3 Units) against the money line vs. a mediocre bullpen whose WHIP is 1.450 to 1.550 over the last 2 seasons. LA starter Wolf is off a fine start this season and is not showing any signs at all fo the serious elbow and shoulder injuries from his recent days in Philadelphia. Many times a pitcher actually throws harder and with more movement after successful surgery. This may be the case for Wolf as he has a 3.37 ERA and a WHIP of 1.167 with a 3-1 record. His K total is far higher on a per inning basis than at any time in his career.

0 Dime –

RED SOX (With Schilling and Cabrera as listed pitchers)

Boston was blown out at home last night by Toronto, 10-3. That wasn’t a real surprise considering the pitching matchup was Roy Halladay against Julian Taverez.
What will be a surprise is if the BoSox are blown out again tonight in Baltimore. For that to happen the Orioles might have to plate over 20 runs, because Daniel Cabrera is slated to start for Baltimore.
Cabrera must feel like a batting practice pitcher when he faces the Red Sox. That’s because he’s 1-6 with a 9.27 ERA in eight career games against Boston, giving up 43 hits and 34 earned runs in just 33 innings.
Curt Schilling gets the nod for Boston and I expect him to bounce back from his last start, when he gave up five earned runs in seven innings against the Yankees, including two Alex Rodriguez homeruns.
Look for the Red Sox to break out the bats in a big way in this one and to give Schilling more than enough run support.
Take the BoSox as the road chalk for the win.

5 Dime –

WHITE SOX (With Durbin and Danks as listed pitchers)

Take the White Sox for the home win tonight over the Tigers.
First of all, you’ve got a Detroit team that had to travel from Los Angeles for this game tonight. Secondly, the Tigers came all the way back from 7-0 down to take the lead in the top of the 9th before losing in extra innings in that game.
A tired, dejected team is not the play here.
They definitely aren’t the play considering Chad Durbin is getting the start. The Detroit right-hander is 1-6 with a 10.26 ERA in 10 games against the White Sox, giving up 69 hits and 49 earned runs in 43 innings. He faced the ChiSox in his last start and was touched for four earned runs in five innings of a 5-4 loss on Friday.
On the year, Durbin has allowed 20 hits and 16 earned runs in just 13 2-3 innings for a 10.54 ERA.
Take the White Sox as the home chalk for the win.

OAKLAND w/BLANTON over Seattle w/Washburn

This match-up clearly favors the home team Athletics with Joe Blanton on the mound. He has a very profitable 6-1 record lifetime vs. the Mariners, and has started this season well with a 4.13 ERA and a 2-0 record. His opponent, Jarrod Washburn for Seattle is 0-2 in three starts so far this season, and has a lousy 6-12 record lifetime vs. the A’s.
The Athletics have won four of their last five games vs. a lefty starting pitcher, and four of their last five at home. The Mariners have lost six of their last seven games and four of Washburn’s last five road starts.
The A’s are coming off a road win yesterday afternoon in Baltimore, and will carry that momentum into tonight’s game at home.
Take Oakland to win in this one.

3? OAKLAND

I told you in the first game of this series that the Wizards would be outmanned by the Cavaliers, led by LeBron James. That was the case in that first game and it will be the case tonight. That win brought Cleveland’s record to 13-5 ATS in their last 18 at home. I expect that trend to continue tonight, as Washington simply doesn’t have what it takes to compete with this team.
I know James sprained his ankle in Sunday’s match-up, but he has been resting it and is ready to play tonight. Even if James is sub-par, the Wizards are still trying to figure out how to contend with the giant Zydrunas Ilgauskas. It was just too easy for the Cavs to pound the ball inside and let him use his height advantage to score on the Wizards.
I expect to see another absolute blowout executed by Cleveland over Washington tonight.

BIG AL McMORDIE

MLB Detroit vs. Chicago (A)

Take Over

At 8:10pm our complimentary selection is on the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox 'over' the total. The Tigers had to put veteran starter and arguably most valuable player for 2006, Kenny Rogers, on the DL right before the start of the season and that has opened up a door for guys like journeyman starter Chad Durbin. While the situation with Rogers has been a good thing for Durbin -- giving him a chance to start games for the defending AL champs -- it has not been a very good thing for his team. It doesn't bode well for Durbin that Chicago is hitting almost 50 points higher against righties so far in 2007. On the other side, the Sox will start one-time Ranger prospect, lefthander John Danks. Danks' numbers are not pretty either, though much better than Durbin's, and Danks has much less experience and should only get better with more starts. Durbin passed that point several years ago. Like Durbin however, Danks has to go out there knowing that Detroit as a team hits much better vs. southpaws (.264 vs. .234) not to mention the fact that the Tiger bats have really come alive lately (23 runs in the last 3 games). Take the 'over'. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.

MATT F@RGO

MLB Houston vs. Pittsburgh

Take Pittsburgh Pirates

Pittsburgh finally nabbed its first home win of the season as it shutout the Astros giving it four straight wins over Houston to start out 2007. The Astros have now dropped four straight games after putting together a five-game winning streak just prior to this. The Pirates have a modest two-game winning streak and that is going the correct way as they have been a very streaky team this season. Pittsburgh is 36-26 against the money line in home games against right-handed starters over the last two seasons. Zach Duke has been roughed up in each of his last two starts, allowing seven runs in each outing but after those two efforts, it’s time to turn things around. He has never defeated Houston but he has three quality outings in his five career starts including one this season on the road. He was given the no-decision in what was his best start of the season. He is 13-7 lifetime at PNC Park compared to going 6-12 on the road so he is better suited despite that lone home outing this season against the Giants. The Astros look to Matt Albers to put a halt to their losing streak but he has yet to win at the Major League lever, going 0-2 with a 5.14 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in five appearances including three starts. He did pitch well against the Brewers in his lone start this season but he did allow six hits and three walks in six innings of work. After averaging 3.1 rpg in their first nine games, the Pirates have bumped that up a run per game to 4.1 over their last nine contests and have upped their batting average by 40 points. Play against National League road teams when the money line is +125 to -125 with a bad bullpen that blows 38 percent or more of their save opportunities against an opponent with a starting pitcher whose ERA is 6.70 or worse on the season. This situation is 57-13 against the moneyline (81.4 percent) since 1997 with the average run differential being +2.3 rpg in those 70 contests. The Astros have lost five of their six against left-handed starters this season including that shutout on Tuesday.

(927) SEA Mariners and (928) OAK Athletics

Take (927) SEA Mariners

Scheduling dynamics at work here. The Mariners got to rest up when their day game with Texas was rained out, while the A's were finishing off a sweep at Baltimore. But that's a long trip all the way back home for the A's, which could put them at a slight disadvantage here. Plus, Washburn outpitched Blanton when the two met earlier this season. Toss up game, but the underdog odds make the Mariners the value

Cubs at home against the Brewers.

Look, the Cubs cannot get swept by the Brewers, and this team is starting to look like the Cubs of old, if they cannot put together some wins as the only bright spot for them this year is Hill and the fact that Ramirez and Lee are healthy.

They face Ben Sheets today who continues to struggle as Sheets is just 1-2 with a 5 ERA and they send Lilly on the mound today who has pitched very well this year going 1-2 with a 2.42 ERA as it is the same old story with the Cubs as they cannot generate any offense whatsoever. How frustrating it must be for Lilly as he gave up 2 just runs to the Cards only to get a loss in the column as the Cubs could only score 1 run in his previous start. In fact, Lilly is averaging just 2 runs a game of run support and I expect that to change today as I can't see the Cubs laying down with a solid pitcher on the mound and continue to get embarassed by the Brewers.

The money train just keeps plugging along and we get a chance to back the Brew Crew at plus money once again against the woeful Cubs. I mean seriously, how can you of sound mind lay any type of chalk with this beleaguered Cubs team right now? This club is flat out putrid, and it doesn't matter what they do because they'll find a way to blow it in the end. They overslide 2nd base and get tagged out when the batter was issued a free pass in the bottom of the 9th, and they blow 4-0 leads with their ace on the mound like its going out of style. Not even Rich Hill and his 0.41 ERA could stand up to the pathetic baseball this teams playing right now last night. The Cubs had a number of opportunities to cash in, and they just couldn't. Ted Lilly has pitched exceptionally well for this team in his first four starts, and what do the Cubs have to show for it....a 1-3 mark in the game's he's pitched. It seriously is pathetic and it's turning into a joke to watch. My goodness, even Piniella's looking like he's starting to believe this franchise is seriously cursed. It doesn't matter whether they are or whether they're not. The bottom line is the Brewers sit atop the NL Central and their underdogs to the Cubs with Ben Sheets on the mound. The same Ben Sheets the Cubs pounded earlier this year for one of their 7 wins on the year. Redemption will be sought, and it will be granted. Grab the Brewers as they whip out the brooms and sweep the Cubbies!!!

Baltimore Orioles (115)
Both clubs enter tonight's game after getting swept at home in their two-game mini series against Toronto and Oakland respectively. The O's have gotten off to a fast start to their '07 campaign as they come into this evening's match-up with the BoSox 11-9 overall and 7-4 in Camden Yards. If there was ever a team this team wanted to take a season's worth of frustration out on, it's these Boston Red Sox. Big Papi and Manny's club beat the O's in 16 of their 19 match-ups a season ago, so expect the O's to come out in search of some respect in this two-game set. So far, I've loved what I've seen from Daniel Cabrera this season. He looks like a completely different pitcher, and this will be his biggest test of the young season. Sure, he has given up quite a few hits (28 in 26 innings of work), but he's fanned 26 and most importantly, only issued 7 free passes. That's been the recipe to his success early on, and the main reason the O's have won three of the four games he's started this season. I expect him to put forth an "A+" effort here tonight against a Boston club that's found it hard to score runs unless they were matched up against the Yanks their L/8 games. The O's have won 6 of their L/8 home games, and I look for that mark to increase by one after this evening.

JEFF BENTON

Today, back to the diamond we go, and play the Reds with Bronson Arroyo over the Cardinals and Braden Looper.

I know that Looper (3-1, 2.08 ERA) has been awesome in his first season as a starter. But St. Louis is absolutely a go-against team at home right now. After last night’s 10-3 disaster against the Reds, the Cards are now 1-7 at Busch Stadium, and the result has been a loss of nearly 9.5 units.

St. Louis is averaging just 2.5 runs per game on its home field, while allowing an average of 5.5 runs! They’re not hitting at home (.232 average) and they’re not pitching at home (5.59 starters’ ERA). As a result, to get a quality Reds team (4-3 on the road) with a quality pitcher (Bronson Arroyo) at plus money is just too good to pass up.

Arroyo has been terrific in his last three starts, pitching into the seventh inning and giving up exactly two earned runs in each. He doesn’t have anything to show for it, as the Reds lost all three – in fact, they’re 0-4 with Arroyo on the hill. But the law of averages will tell you if your starting pitcher continues to produce quality outings, the wins will follow.
Last year, Arroyo went 2-1 with 2.35 ERA in his final three starts against the Cardinals, pitching at least seven innings in all three. He’s got the stuff to hold down this weak St. Louis offense that has produced three runs or fewer in 14 of its 19 games. Conversely, Cincinnati has tallied at least six runs in four of its last eight contests.

Back the underdog Reds in this one.

WUNDERDOG

Game: Washington at Philadelphia (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Philadelphia -179

Washington is going to be an up-and-down team this year. They lack consistent pitching and their young hitters are hot and cold. They are certainly down right now, losing three straight, being out-scored 27-12 and hitting just over .200 while allowing 8+ runs a game. They have managed 3 runs or less in 65% of their games so far while allowing more than that in seven straight. That makes it hard to avoid long losing streaks, of which they have already reached six games this young season. John Patterson had arm surgery, cutting his season short last year and he has not been up to form as his ERA has soared to 7 runs a game. His velocity is down close to 10 MPH as he begins to build arm strength. By his own admission, he has to just suck up pride right now. The Phillies have a big line-up and Patterson is featuring stuff that is less than big-league calliber right now. His team is struggling on both ends. Lieber has a career 4.05 ERA vs ! Washington which should be enough to get the win in this one.

Today's Pick: BOSTON RED SOX

The Red Sox made it a perfect 3-0 sweep over the Yankees last weekend at Fenway, coming from behind in all three wins. However, the Red Sox lost their momentum Monday and Tuesday, with consecutive losses to the Blue Jays. Toronto bombed both Wakefield and Tavarez, Boston's two weakest starters, and the Red Sox defense sure didn't help things, committing six errors in the two losses. Witha three-game series at Yankee Stadium looming this weekend, the Red Sox make a "pit-stop" in Baltimore to the play the Orioles tonight and tomorrow. The Orioles are likewise coming off losses at home on Monday and Tuesday (to the A's), ending a nice streak that had seen them win eight of their previous nine games. However, Baltimore lost 15 of 18 games vs the Red Sox in 2006 and the team's starter tonight, Daniel Cabrera, owns a 1-6 career mark (nine starts) with a 9.27 ERA vs the Red Sox(has lost his last four starts to Boston). Boston sends Schilling to the hill and the price is right to grab the Red Sox.

8:10pm ET / CINCINNATI REDS with Arroyo @ ST LOUIS CARDINALS with Looper
**PLAY on: UNDER THE TOTAL

Low number tonight in St Louis (8 runs), but the wind's blowing "in".... and we get some good supporting data from tonight's Home Plate UMPIRE as well. "Behind the Dish" tonight is ALFONSO MARQUEZ. Despite the fact that's he's 1-0 O/U on the year, he is historically an "Under" UMPIRE. 3-7 O/U in his last 10 Cincy Red games (7.4 RPG).... 2-7 O/U in his last 9 St Louis card games (7.1 RPG).... and a PERFECT 0-3 O/U in BRONSON ARROYO starts.

Both of tonight's starters are in sharp current form. Arroyo comes in with a 3.25 ERA (2.63 on the road) and has allowed only 2 earned runs in EACH of his last 3 starts. Braden Looper has a ERA of 2.08 on the season as he has allowed only 1, 2, 0, and 3 earned runs in his four starts. ARROYO is 1-6 O/U in his last 7 road starts, 1-5 O/U when his team scored 5> runs in their previous game, 1-5 vs an opp who allowed 5> runs in their previous game, 1-4 O/U in Game Two of a series, and 1-5-1 O/U as a dog of +150 or less. The REDS are also 3-11-1 O/U in their last 11 roles as underdogs. Meanwhile, the CARDINALS are 1-6-1 O/U in Game Two of a series, 2-9 O/U as favs of -150 or less, 1-4 O/U after allowing 5> runs, 2-6 O/U on Wednesdays and 4-12 O/U in their last 16 vs division opponents.

3♦ Cubs

UncleLousSports:

Boston (Schilling -$130) against Baltimore (Cabrera).

This is a nice price to grab the hot Sox bats and Schilling for tonight, even on the road. Schill was 3-0 versus the O's last season and the Sox are 3-1 when he goes this season. Cabrera is 1-1 with a 4.10 Era on the year, but most inportantly, he is 1-6 with a 9.27 Era in eight career starts versus Boston

BIG AL'S PLAYS

At 9:40pm our selection is on the San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks 'under' the total. With Chris Carpenter on the DL, this matchup between the Padres' righty Jake Peavy and the D-Backs righty and defending National League Cy Young award winner, Brandon Webb is arguably between the two best active starters in the National League. Peavy appears back to the form he was in two years ago and his performance so far in 2007 has been outstanding with a 3-0 record, while the Padres have won all 4 of his starts to date. Meanwhile Webb, while not quite the statistical eye-opener that Peavy has been, has been solid up to this point. And Webb turned in by far his best performance in his last start against this same Padre team in which he went 8 innings, giving up only 1 earned run, while striking out a career-high 13. In the unlikely event that either of these studs does not bring his best stuff to the mound tonight, both Peavy or Webb can turn the ball over to one of the best bullpens in the Major Leagues. Take the 'under'. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.

Not sure if you guys are interested or not, but here is the link to a FREE pick monitor that I have been using...

Some real good info there..

Maybe you can figure out how to just display the main page instead of the link...I don't want to direct traffic away from the Rx...but I don't know how to do that, so here is the link:

MTI (plays and write-ups)

Game: Texas Rangers at Cleveland Indians Apr 25 2007 7:05PM
Prediction: Texas Rangers
Reason: – On Sunday, the Rangers were tied 4-4 fter six, but lost 5-4 to the Mariners. We look for them to play up to their maximum potential here. Texas is a sizzling 21-2 after a loss in which they were tied at the end of 6 innings, making $2190 for a $100 player. In addition, the Rangers are a fantastic 20-10 as a ROAD DOG, averaging +142 – including a perfect 6-0 their last six – all by at least 2 runs!
Yes Sabathia is winning, but the Tribe is a bankroll-crushing 10-14 as a home 140+ FAVORITE when they won the last two games their starter started. With the Indians a money-burning are 12-21 as a FAVORITE when they are off a win in which they never trailed, the Rangers have a real shot. Take the big number.
MTi’s FORECAST: Texas 4 CLEVELAND 3

Game: Atlanta Braves at Florida Marlins Apr 25 2007 7:05PM
Prediction: Florida Marlins
Reason: Yesterday, the Braves scored four in the top of the first and never trailed thereafter, beating the Marlins 11-6. We look for the Braves to be “soft” here, as they are 19-27 as a FAVORITE when their opponent is seeking immediate revenge for a loss in which they never led and 1-10 as a road favorite after a 5+ run win.
This is the “rubber” game of the series and the Braves have a lot of trouble in this spot. Atlanta is a disappointing 10-19 as a favorite after playing as a favorite and it is the last game of a three game series when they split the first two.
We have an interesting league-wide situation working here. MLB teams are a combined 12-1 as a HOME DOG when seeking immediate revenge for a loss in which they were shut out in the last 6 innings. The Marlins lost 6-5 in Olsen’s last start and we look for better things here, as Florida is a supportive 17-8 when they lost by one run in their starter's last start, making 12.4 units.
The Braves won Hudson’s last start, and he is not at his best in this situation. Atlanta is a surprising 8-12 when Tim Hudson starts as a 140+ favorite when they won the last time he started. Marlins have the value here.
MTi’s FORECAST: FLORIDA 6 Atlanta 4

Game: San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks Apr 25 2007 9:40PM
Prediction: Arizona Diamondbacks
Reason: The Padres came through for use yesterday with our Underdog Game of the Month. Today, the play is on the Padres. San Diego is in a spot where they can be a bit over-confident and lackadaisical. The Padres are 9-21 as a favorite after a 5+ run win for a net profit of $1660 when playing against. Yes, Peavy is doing well, but San Diego is a poor 17-23 AS A FAVORITE when they won the last two games their starter started.
Webb beat San Diego 5-2 in his last start so San Diego has revenge here. However, the Padres seem to adopt a defeatist attitude in this situation, as they are a dismal 11-27 on the road when they lost the last time they faced their opponent’s starting pitcher.
Brandon Webb is s very streaky pitcher. In fact, the Snakes are 10-1 when Brandon Webb starts at home when they won his last start, which, of course, is the case here.
Jake Peavy also won his last start, and San Diego has been a favorite of minus 155 on the average with Peavy when they won his last start. However, the Padres are only 11-17 in this situation, dropping 14.9 units. Take Webb and the D-Backs. philly
MTi’s FORECAST: ARIZONA 5 San Diego 3
