He let Hudson load the bases in the ninth. Why not bring in a reliever earlier????

The real question is why is Cox still coaching. This guy should be in a nursing home.

Yeahhhhh...your #1 starter goes 8 strong with a dozen K's and you're telling me most managers are gonna yank him for the 9th?

Maybe Wickman should have been in earlier, but he doesn't start warming up until the first hit, and the second two hits came in about three pitches. Tough to blame that one totally on Cox...

its easy to say now...after what happened.

Hudson had just thrown 8 shutout innings and had a 4 run lead..why would he take him out? Maybe he should of put wickman in with a couple men on...but...you can't question leaving him in

4 run lead? the final was 4-3. You're right that he should have pulled him after 2 hits.

Like I said, it's not a video game, you can't just "pull" a pitcher. The reliever has to be warm. Wickman didn't get up in the 'pen until after the first hit, and the next two hits came in about a minute of actual time. Hard for a manager to do much about that...

You might even say that Wickman came in too early as far as his warmup was concerned. Why do you think he gave up a hit on the first pitch, which was a fat one over the plate, and looked quite erratic the entire time? He wasn't warm. Imagine what would have happened had Cox put Wickman in after Hudson gave up the first hit, unwarm, like you armchair managers are suggesting.

I'm not saying Cox isn't partly to blame, but equally to blame are Hudson and Wickman. Hudson for obviously saying he could go out and finish the game when he clearly didn't have it and Wickman for blowing the save ... when it comes down to it, he's a closer, he's expected to perform in pressure situations and he didn't.

How about warming up Wickman before the inning??? Just in case?? That's what most teams do.

Maybe he was getting low on Skoal...had to make a trip to the clubhouse for some more...and forgot what inning it was.:think2:

Should have had the pen up and ready at the start of that bottom half.

cox made the right move to bring him into the 9th, why do starters and middles get yanked just to put in the "reliever". if the middle guy is doing good, just keep him in

Yea i understand yall lost, and maybe he made a mistake, but if hudson finishes it out yall have no problem with it. It is called baseball. You can call Bobby Cox what you want but a "bad manager" is not a valid one. As a matter of fact, they need to rename the manager of the year award the "Bobby Cox Award," because he is the best manager in baseball!!

To do what he does with the lack of talent that he has is simply amazing. FIRST BALLOT HALL OF FAMER HANDS DOWN!!!!!!

There is no point in arguing, because I am right and that is the truth. This needs to be the last post in this thread.

Who said anything about bringing in a reliever to start the inning?

At what point in the ninth would you think Hudson was out of gas? First hit? Second hit? Third hit?
