Now this is where it gets interesting.

Iraq goes boom....and....

America gives lots of cash and military bits to bolster Saddams central Iraq sunnis so they can be a bulwark against the Iranian/shiite power surge in the south.

...so America winds up supporting Saddams bretheren anyway.

mission accomplished

Like with Vietnam, the Iraq war never really changed a damn thing, except for the lives of the poor buggers who were caught up in it.

Wrong.

Al-Qaida is tied down in Iraq. For those of you with a short (selective) memory, it was Zarqawi who ignited the "civil war" in Iraq with a bombing of a few Mosque. If Iraq winds down -- if we actually start making good progress there -- they (Al-Qaida) will go back to their home countries and that's when the real fun will begin:

A barrage of terror against AMERICANS and EUROPEANS -- just like it was before the Bush Doctrine.

Then our own Huffington Post editor sd2 will be posting articles on the next country he wants President Clinton to invade.

The reason we haven't been attacked is simple: Al-Qaida is as tied down in Iraq even more than we are. We have to fight and kill them somewhere, we may as well choose the battlefield, instead of letting the enemy do it for us...

Republicans: Iraq
Democrats: NYC, DC, Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami...

Now who do you suppose Al-Qaida is cheering for in our own "civil war" we're having back home? :think2:

is simple:

I know it's simple Joe.

The continental United States hasn't even had a Virginia Tech type of attack from a single moslem radical since 9/11.

This must be because you're in Iraq. Yup. :nohead:

It can't be because your entire argument is a gigantic straw man.

Make the straw man big enough and people will believe you Joe, eh.

As of right now, all attacks to be carried out in the United States require prior approval from Osama bin Laden -- well, Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri because bin Laden is dead. All other targets anywhere in the world are fair game for any Al-Qaida franchisee.

Al-Qaida could easily send over a few rogue suicide bombers targeting American shopping malls or buses the way jihadists did in Israel, but they don't want to awake a sleeping giant and unite the country the way we were after 9/11. What they really want is another 9/11 but are finding it too difficult to pull off. They tried to blow up to 10 airliners last summer but MI5 saved the day.

Anyway, instead of blowing up the Empire State Building or the Holland Tunnel, they are chipping away at our morale instead through a drip, drip, drip news effect of suicide bombs, sniper attacks, IEDs -- good ol' fashioned Islamic terrorism.

You can't beat America with planes, ships and tanks, but you CAN pretty much end up with the same result through propaganda. If we are demoralized and forced to retreat in defeat from Iraq, a future 9/11 will be that much easier.

Americans are wimps (a "paper tiger") and can't stomach any casualties. Just ask Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.

America is the easiest place in the western world to get tooled up with guns and shoot a bunch of folk.

Not-one-single-muzzie-attack-yet-Joe.

And there would be a media feeding frenzy.

Hey Joe!

If you can get a few muzzies to attack Americans in America just before the Presidential elections then the Republicans could sail into the Whitehouse!

But you neocon nutters wouldn't do that.

Would you?

That's true, eek. But remember, they don't want any mass shootings or even something similar to the Tube attacks in London. What good would that do? All this partisan bickering would stop and we'd stand united with a spine again....well, for a couple weeks, then Democrats would go back to their spineless, dirty tricks.

So if they're going to land a punch they want a 9/11 or worse -- something they haven't been able to pull off. (Big thank you goes out to all the selfless patriots on the front lines in the War on Terror -- overseas and here at home.)

But if Democrats win and pull out of Iraq, if Gitmo is closed, if the Patriot Act and our surveillance programs are tossed, you bet we'll be attacked again.

I gotta give Rudy Giuliani props because he "gets it"...

“I listen a little to the Democrats and if one of them gets elected, we are going on defense.”

“If any Republican is elected president —- and I think obviously I would be the best at this —- we will remain on offense and will anticipate what [the terrorists] will do and try to stop them before they do it."

America will ultimately defeat terrorism no matter which party gains the White House BUT....

“But the question is how long will it take and how many casualties will we have? If we are on defense [with a Democratic president], we will have more losses and it will go on longer.”

Man, I can't wait for the debates!

Its like that book, catch-22...

Both Joe Contrarian and Osama Bin Laden need an attack on American soil to happen just before the American Presidential elections.

This will return the neocon base (making Joe happy) and keep your military floundering in the middle east(making Osama Bin Laden AND Joe happy).

Its like with Israel and its enemies, there is a symbiotic relationship between enemies to ensure that free flow of hard working American taxpayer dollars doesn't get interrupted.

mission accomplished Joe.:toast:

You mean no more MIC? That would be a travesty.

No worries. Lot's of evil doers in this world. I think we better polish off those Muzzies, because a new "red dawn" is just around the corner.

Life as a neocon, eek....I'm tellin' ya, it never ends...

I had to read no further, thank you for sparing me, as you often do, the rest of the monologue.

I didn't even read his post. What you quoted was enough for me.

When he says "Al Qaeda is tied down", I think he means that Al Qaeda has a "hiring freeze" right now ... and they're not taking new applicants.

When we leave Iraq, the middle east will still be the same lawless unstable shithole as it has been since we set foot there.

Dictators, religious extremists, ethnic feuds and fighting over oil revenues......all old fucking news. Nothing is going to change by our efforts in the middle east. Only thing that'll change is the names.

And yes, we will get attacked again someday, because there are too many targets to protect and too many ways to attack them. It only took eight years to get back to the WTC buildings and finish the job. Only a complete dipshit would claim to be bulletproof after losing 2 skyscrapers on the same day.

The only real difference is we will have blown a trillion or two dollars in a failed attempt to try to reform ragheads and make them citizens of the planet. Iraq will be another lost guerilla war in the history books, and the middle east will still be a religious cesspool.

There's your fucking future.

Do you have any facts to back your claim or are you just guessing again?
I thought so!

Sure. Laptops and documentation the troops find on raids in Iraq, Afghanistan and parts unknown; interrogating the terrorists at Club Gitmo and parts unknown; spying on the terrorists; following the money trail...

Thanks to these new anti-terror measures and others, we're learning out LOTS of stuff we didn't know previously. We're making adjustments and winning the war against radical Islam.

The WE is like a farmer in Terre Haute, Indiana saying "we won the Super Bowl" ... and "we beat Chicago" ... and "we had a great game plan" ... and ... the list goes on.
