AVG is free.................................
Some fam members have this and have had no problems.

I have PC Shield Antivirus and firewall....it cost like $25 for the year. Downloaded straight from their website or cnet.

AVG - free but mediocre

Norton - protection is OK but the application itself is horribly troublesome making it worse than the things it is supposed to protect against

McAfee - a lesser Norton

Kaspersky AntiVirus - head and shoulders above other antiviruses AND antispyware tools, not free but there is a free webbased on-demand scanner

The Norton AV has a spyware checker too. I had to turn mine off because it was conflicting with Spysweeper.
