Me and the missus are in Ireland for a wedding next month. She wants to see London while we are so close. I went online last night and a flight from Dublin to Heathrow is about 50 euros on Aer Lingus. I did a google search and found seats for for $1 + taxes to Stanstead airport on Ryanair. Is Stanstead close to the city center ? Is there a catch here I don't know about ? I found a train that will go from Stanstead to Liverpool St station. We are only there for one night, if I got a hotel near Liverpool St station is that a nice area ? Is it close to downtown London shopping and restaurants ? Can I get a cab to this downtown area from there ?

I dont want to save 100 euros on flights and end up spending all our time and twice the money on taxi's/trains/buses to get to and from Stanstead.

Train from Stanstead is about €15 each. Get what you pay for in Town and Tube very good nowadays, quicker than Cabs. Yes I know I'm not Santo but then He's a Yido like yourself. :drink:

PS: Bear in mind Heathrow is a long way from the West End, so no real savings.

Stansted is on the line from Liverpool Street to Essex, via White Hart Lane/Tottenham. it's about a 40minute train journey I'd say on the Stansted Express, which will probably set you back £15 e/w (last time I did it).

Liverpool Street is a decent area. You could get a tab to Oxford Street etc, but you'd frankly be much better off just getting the underground, will be much cheaper and Liverpool Street is on both the Central and Circle lines, so you can get pretty much anywhere.

Liverpool Street is A, the theatres and such are between Victoria and B, and the main shopping area is B.

Great so it sounds like Dublin to Stanstead to Liverpool St would work. I will look for a hotel near the Liverpool St train station and commute from there on the tube.
