But there is a storm brewing on the horizon. When his suit suddenly changes, turning jet-black and enhancing his powers, it transforms Peter as well, bringing out the dark, vengeful side of his personality that he is struggling to control. Under the influence of the suit, Peter becomes overconfident and starts to neglect the people who care for him most. Forced to choose between the seductive power of the new suit and the compassionate hero he used to be, Peter must overcome his personal demons as two of the most-feared villains yet, Sandman and Venom, gather unparalleled power and a thirst for retribution to threaten Peter and everyone he loves.

Alot of the scenes in this movie were shot in Downtown Cleveland last year.

I though this was the last of the Spidermans.

But apparently it is a such a cash cow that the studio already intends to make 4 ,5 and possibly 6.

The question is whether the director and original cast who only signed on for the first 3 films will return. It is thought that Sam Raimi may not return since he is being pegged to do the Lord of the Rings prequel "the Hobbit". Although nothing is official yet.

I guess the release of this movie would explain those annoying Comcast commercials with that fruit in his Spiderman outfit "webbing" his prospective bottom-boy.

From what I heard advance ticket sales are much higher than when Spiderman 2 opened. This one should make a ton of money. It's a darker movie but fans are excited to see the black costume and Venom. At least I know I am.

Going to catch a day showing sometime next week.

It's the most expensive movie yet, but from the reviews I've heard it's worth it. Some say it's the best of the series, which is tough to do with a part 3 IMO. (Spiderman 2 is my personal favorite superhero movie of all time if anyone cares).

Advanced ticket sales are said to already be TRIPLE what Spiderman 2 was doing before it opened.

I just hope it doesn't suffer from the "pack too much into one movie" syndrome, like X-men 3 did with the mutant cure AND Phoenix storylines. Will it really work packing Sandman, Venom, and a new Goblin into one movie? Some people think Venom should have gotten his own movie.

They're saying it cost more than $258 million to make. That's doesn't even count marketing. A film can be a worldwide hit and do $1 billion in just ticket sales alone. That doesn't even count merchandise and DVD sales later. Great return of investment I think.

With the widest opening for a movie ever this weekend, it's going to shatter the record for highest grossing three day weekend set by Pirates of the Carribean:Dead Man's Chest. That did $135,634,554.

Spiderman 3 Opens, Earns $29M
Wednesday, May. 02, 2007 By AP/DAVID GERMAIN Article ToolsPrintEmail (LOS ANGELES) — "Spider-Man 3" cast a worldwide web with a blockbuster first day, hauling in $29.15 million in 16 overseas markets and beating the debuts of the previous two "Spider-Man" flicks in each locale.

The film had the best opening day ever Tuesday in some countries, including France, Italy, South Korea and Hong Kong, distributor Sony Pictures said.

"Spider-Man 3" opens over the next couple of days in dozens of other countries, including the United States on Friday.

"`Spider-Man' is a worldwide franchise, and the thing we're most excited about is that in two pretty completely separate parts of the world we've gotten off to a great start," Jeff Blake, Sony vice chairman, said Wednesday. "We certainly hope for the same in North America."

Domestically, 2002's "Spider-Man" opened with $114.8 million in its first weekend, a record debut that stood until "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" shattered it last year with a $135.6 million weekend.

"Spider-Man 2" opened on a Wednesday before the Fourth of July weekend in 2004, pulling in a record $180.1 million in its first six days.

The two previous films combined for a total of $1.6 billion worldwide, about half of that coming in the United States.

In France, "Spider-Man 3" took in $6.8 million on opening day, more than the first-day grosses there for "Spider-Man" and "Spider-Man 2" combined.

It grossed $4.6 million in Germany, $4 million in Italy, $3.7 million in Japan, $3.4 million in South Korea, $1.1 million in the Philippines and $1 million each in Hong Kong and Thailand.

The third installment in director Sam Raimi's superhero series, "Spider-Man 3" reunites Tobey Maguire as the web-slinger, Kirsten Dunst as the love of his life and James Franco as his old pal turned enemy.

Adapted from the Marvel comic books, the film also introduces two new villains, Thomas Haden Church as the Sandman and Topher Grace as Venom.

Along with bad guys, Spidey ends up battling his own dark side as he fights the temptation to use his powers for evil after an alien entity infects his superhero outfit.

The film's budget is officially $258 million, which makes it the most expensive film ever made in nominal U.S. dollars, breaking King Kong's budget record of $207 million. It would also be third, in adjusted dollars, to War and Peace's budget of $560 million.[24] Camera crews spent ten days between November 5, 2005, and November 18, 2005, to film sequences that would involve intense visual effects so Sony Pictures Imageworks could begin work on the shots early in the project. The same steps had been taken for Spider-Man 2 to begin producing visual effects early for sequences involving the villain Doctor Octopus.[25] Actors Topher Grace and Thomas Haden Church worked to improve their physiques. Grace gained 20 pounds of muscle,[26] and Church worked out for 16 months.[27]
Principal photography for Spider-Man 3 began on January 16, 2006 and wrapped in July 2006 after over a hundred days of filming. The team filmed in Los Angeles until May 19, 2006.[25] In spring 2006, film location manager Peter Martorano brought camera crews to Cleveland,[28] due to the Cleveland Film Commission offering production space at the city's convention center at no cost.[29] In Cleveland, they shot the battle between Spider-Man and Sandman in the armored car.[13] Afterward, the team moved to Manhattan, where filming commenced until July 1, 2006.[25] Shooting was tiring on Raimi, who often had to move between several units to complete the picture.[13] Shooting was also difficult for cinematographer Bill Pope, as Spider-Man, Venom and the New Goblin mostly wear black during fight scenes that take place at night.[30]
After August, pick-ups were conducted as Raimi sought to film more action scenes.[31] Bryce Dallas Howard performed many stunts, unaware of the fact she was pregnant.[13] The film then wrapped in October, although in the following month, additional special effects shots were taken to finalize the production.[32] At the start of 2007, there were further pick-up shots regarding the resolution of Sandman's story, amounting to four different versions.[20]
