I am furious about this for some reason...

I do not feel sorry for Josh Hancock, he had it coming. I feel bad for his family, friends, and teamates.

Less than 3 days before this fatal accident Hancock escaped death by just inches in another alcohol related driving accident he was involved in when his car rolled through an intersetion at 5:30 AM

Somehow, he was NOT issued a citation by the police officer on the scene, though Hancock was leaving a handful of bars that stay open until 5:00.

When Hancock showed up late at the park on Thursday, he was "too hungover" to pitch.

Un-f'ing-believable.

Somehow the word about this doesn't get out. Hancock gets away with driving drunk and is almost killed like its nothing.

Less than 3 days later, he kills himself while driving drunk at 4 AM and was ridiculously lucky that he didn't take out several others with him.

Tony LaRussa is a son of a bitch also. The Cardinals tried to cover this up for the most part, refusing to talk about alochol. People have a right to know that Hancock killed himself in a selfish act that took a miracle for others not to be badly hurt as well.

Baseball should be ashamed. The Cardinals should be ashamed.

"Toxicology reports from the night of Hancock's fatal accident are not yet ready. But the newspaper's account of the hours preceding the crash, citing eyewitness accounts, reads like any typical night out after a major-league game. The pitcher had been seen drinking in one bar-restaurant - the manager felt compelled to ask if he wanted a cab, which tells you something - and left for another. He was on his way to meet teammates at a third when the SUV crashed into the back of a 26,000-pound tow truck."

Writes Phil Sheridan of the Philly Inquirer

eyewitnesses see Hancock throwing down drinks, the manager has to ask him if he wants a cab called for him, accident happens at like 5 AM....drunk drunk drunk

he was fucked up....and for the at least the 2nd time in 3 days, drove drunk with serious consequences

Ashamed..come on...absolutely nothing to be ashamed about....

There was a death involved.....Period...people ie family and team members need some time, its only been what 3-4 days.

Yes he (hancock) was selfish, if that was the case that he was drunk, but in no way does baseball or the cardinals have anything to be ashamed of.

Would you prefer Larussa to say .... " o yeah, he was hammered, just like always, that bastard deserved to die." LaRussa was not there, he doesn't know if he was drunk, he just knows that a teammate and somewith a family died, and you dont speak poorly of that in the 3 days following something like that, even if its true/accurate.

So settle down....

The idiot could have hurt or killed innocent people and LaRussa is no better based on what we know about him.

Before you ask, I don't drink, so no, i've never driven while impaired.

LaRussa threatened to swing a bat at reporters if they brought up anything insincere or had "agendas"...the same guy who was cited for DUI 6 weeks ago

MLB should be ashamed....Hancock claimed he was fined $500 for showing up late to the game Thursday when he was too hungover to pitch.

MLB should have suspended him for driving drunk and almost killing himself.

"The Cardinals should have an open and honest conversation about what happened, about what might have happened, and what should happen in the future -- and so should Major League Baseball." -Buster Olney

All but one MLB teams provide alcohol to their players in the clubhouses after games. Then they let them drive home. That one team is the Oakland A's who only stopped after Esteban Loaiza was cited for DUI last year

"Imagine that Wal-Mart operated its business the way that almost all Major League Baseball teams do. At the end of every work day, Wal-Mart would have a place in the employees' lounge where workers could gather and drink -- with beer provided by Wal-Mart. Stop by the keg, guys, have a few pops, and head on home. Oh, here, don't forget your car keys. Drive safely." -Olney

Larussa covers for his players, same thing he did for McGwire the not so jolly red giant, Larussa looks the other way just like the lawyer that he is/was.

nobody will learn from this....they never do.

not that it matters but the fatal accident happened around 12:30 am not 4 am. the thing about being fined because he was to hungover is what someone overheard him saying to someone else. he made a mistake and paid a huge price. last call is not at 5 am in st louis. in st louis it is around 230 am i think the bars have to have everyone out by 3. the place he was at 3 days earlier is sauget illinois. there is a couple of strip clubs and after hour joints where he was. also they said they found marijuana in his wrecked auto so who knows just glad he did not hurt others for his fatal mistake.

I do not feel sorry for Josh Hancock, he had it coming.
So you feel it should have costed him his life?! Kind of cruel dont you think?

I think he should have got slapped with a DUI and maybe a few hours behind bars to straighten him out.

We have all done dumb things in life, doesnt mean they cant be corrected.

I was thinking the same thing.....I thought Buffalo held the record at 4am

All of NYS is 4am. AZ is the worst state I have been to at 1:00am.

Did you forget about Nevada or have you never been? Maybe it is just Vegas, Reno and Tahoe, but I don't think they have a last call.

Busch Stadium

Probably not the greatest image for a club so closely tied to beer.

a little bit cruel, possibly

guy drove drunk and got into two accidents in 3 nights....like he didn't get a wake up call after he almost killed himself the first night?? that is what is so frustrating, he was given a 2nd chance

he was lucky not to kill anyone and probably would have at some point

better him than some innocent person
