A buddy and I have decided to go into a little small business together. Believe it or not he (not me) is going to pickup up other peoples dog poop in thier yard.

I have read up on this for a few years and it seems to be quite common in other parts of the country. There is no other type service like this in a 4 county radius where I live so I think this can be something that can be done.

It is not expensive to get started (truck and advertising the biggest costs) and works perfect in his schedule (he trains racehorses for a living). Not expecting to hit it big as there just isnt a alot of money involved in it (most poop pickups are in the $10-15 range). It is best too start something like this in early spring so we are a little behind the 8 ball right now. Like I said this is just something to add extra income and try to tackle an interesting challenge as I would be in charge of all the money upfront and keeping books and answering phones, etc...

I think a catchy name would help and so I thought I would throw it out there to you guys for a little help. Some of the names I have seen that are pretty much taken but will give you a good idea are:

Doody Calls
The Pet Butler
Dirty Deeds
Scoopy Doo
K-9 Klean Up
Doogie Doo removal

This is just to give you an idea what most others use for names as you dont want to cross the line of being a little too offensive. My goal is to get 30 customers in each county and clear $500 bucks a week after all bills are paid off. After deep consideration I think I may give it go as I think it will be a fun challenge trying to make this profitable.

Iceman, you and your fascinating threads! Wow. Seems like every other week, you find an extra business venture to check out, LOL.

I realize "Dirty Deeds" is already taken, but I really like that name the most... maybe something like that... a catchy-but-something-people-will-remember kind of phrase.

Keep in mind that you & your partner may want to expand just a little on exactly what duties he will do (just picking up poop; no other dog services?). That may help gain business because many customers will chuckle, "I'm just paying them for picking up poop... I'd have considered it if they also did this and that even for extra fee...)

But a neat venture to try to tackle, yeah... keep us updated.

No kidding. he doesn't need a partner. it's not like the phones will be ringing off the hook.

And why would he or you need a van for this. all you need is a trash bag, a disgusting appetite for shit, and something to pick it up with. Make sure the bag is tied. take it down to the end of the street and throw it in the first dumpster you see, then move on to customer #2.

It was 100% my idea. I HIRED him. I took all the risk. Bought the truck, pay for the gas. will get the DBA license, paid for all of the adveristing, tools, supplies, cell phones. Did all the research.

He is desperate for an extra job that works around his job and it works for both of us. He wants no more headaches or hassles than just going to work.

I know if there was a service like this around my parts, I may have used it as I hate picking up poop.

This reminds me of that funny movie with Jack Black (envy or something like that). Why not just spray that stuff on the poop and make it disappear?

What are you going to do with all the dog poop you collect?

Trying to do this the right way.

I still have to supply the vehichle even if it is a car as I want to advertise with it (magnets) as I can't expect the guy to put all the wear and tear on his vehicle.

paying too use the dumpster at the horse farm the guy uses. Which is another expense for me. You double bag and tie up at each and every house.

I wouldn't need this service. i just take my dog in my yard every now and then and then down into the common area or every now and then someone's elses yard late at night.

Out of curiosity, what are your rates for something like this? Would it vary? Depending on dog size? How much shit? How big the yard?

What happens if he shows up at a house and some drunk guys are there and feel like messing around and go out in the middle of the yard while he is there and take a big shit right in front of him and say that's my dogs. Clean it up or I won't pay

other than buying real estate rentals I dont recall any other venture.

I am all about putting together a financial game plan which involves making more money at current job, having a side business (where others work at not you), investing in the market (which for me is the sports betting market) and owing real estate. This is my plan.
