I figured this is the place to ask, since there are a bunch of gamblers on this site.

Looking for this info:
1. Internet Accessibility to check scores and such
2. Decent amount of minutes/texting
3. Phone Brand
4. Phone Plan and Price

I'm leaning towards a PDA right now, but open for any thoughts.

Mods, feel free to move this thread later tonight, hopefully you can keep it in this forum until I get some replies.

I have T-mobile. Have had them for many years. I think my plan is 39.99 for 1000 minutes and unlimited nights and weekends. I pay extra for a text messaging package.

I do like their customer service. Whenever I've had a problem or wanted to change my plan, they have been very helpful. One of the reasons I've stayed with them.

I use a T-mobile dash right now. I've used a Sidekick and a Treo all with T-mobile. All have been great phones to check scores.

the only thing I wish T-mobile have that other carriers do have is high speed internet. Tmo is still working on EDGE, which is faster than a dial up but slower than Sprint's EDVO internet. With that you can stream video on your phone which is pretty cool. T-mobile you cannot.

Hope it helps somewhat.

Tmobile has unlimited internet for $20.00 per month. I have a sidekick w/ the family plan. $69.99 for 2 phones + $20.00 foe the unlimited internet which includes unlimited text messaging

You pay $5.99 for internet on your sidekick II or for your mobile phone.

Thats a pretty reasonable price...So with Internet, I will be looking at about a $45.00 Phone Bill then?

Dont forget all about all misc charges...state tax, 911, all types of shit. You'll probably end up in the low $60 or high $50's

I also have the T-mobile 5.99 plan and to get scores through ESPN's WAP site is pretty amazing. Great graphics and updates just as quick as the website.

One recent mistake I made..Make sure the cell camera and phone have the abilty to send pictures taken to your e-mail so you can size up and download any pics you shoot

I have had 2 good phones that I can tell you about.

I had the Treo 700w
and the XV 6700

Both are excellent for checking scores, placing bets ect.
Both have windows, XV has a bigger screen with bigger keys.

here is the links to both of these.

ThAT link I posted, actually compares both of the phones I have, you can go wrong with either one.

My recommendation is not worth much..I have always used Cingular and never played the field..It would be nice if I could put the great chick pics on computer..Just thought I`d heads up ya..All I can do is see them on my cell..Not good enough..Will upgrade

Looks like I'm going to go with either Alltel or T-Mobile. Alltel offered to buyout the remaining contract of my current plan, and it would cost around 75 bucks a month for my plan where I would get 900 anytime minutes, 10 my circle numbers, and the internet.

However, I am leaning towards T-Mobile and the Sidekick 3. For those that pay 5.99 per month for Internet, does it work okay? Cause the employee told me he recommends the 20$ Sidekick Plan with unlimited Web and such. T-Mobile would run me about 60-65 per month.

Thoughts? Are these prices too high, which plan, anyone with a Sidekick, etc?

tmobile's customer service is outstanding. probably the best customer service of any business ive ever dealt with. verizon might be a little 'ahead of the game' but im comfortable sticking with tmobile because whenever i have/had a problem, its always been resolved efficiently.

i dont like big bulky phones so the sidekick isnt my preference.
but i do know people who have them and they like them.

if youre just using it to check scores, do not go with the sidekick or the $20 a month plan.

their normal $5.99 internet package on a regular phone is excellent (and more than enough if you are only using the phone for talking, texting, and checking scores). you can access espn news on it and the scores update instantly and the graphics are top notch.

honestly, with the 20 dollar a month package (and compatible PDA), youll be able to access the full internet but its really slow and it requires a lot of scrolling up/down/left/right because of how the pages are formatted.

i have a nokia 6103. i think there is a newer version of this phone. (6133 maybe) but even the one i have is still very current and has all the features i am looking for. when i am on the road or away from home, i can just log on to the espn news page and put it on auto refresh for whatever game i want and its like having a mini-computer to get scores from.

Prodigy, I've actually narrowed it down to either Alltel or T-Mobile and three phones:

Sidekick (TMobile)
Motorola Q (Alltel)
UT-Starcom PPC-6700..its a touch screen (Alltel)

So are you saying the Sidekick is slow on the web, and the 5.99 internet on it is bad? I dont understand if I purchase it to be to buy the 5.99 per month or the 19.99 per month. I want to be mainly to access the RX, nfl.com, espn.com, etc from it...The guy tried to talk me into a Blackberry Pearl, but it seems just too small and sensitive for me.

the 5.99 internet can be added to regular cell phones (non-sidekick or non-blackberry phones). its not a full internet. its basically news, weather, and sports info (of which they have yahoo and espn included). like i said, for me this works perfectly because i only use the internet for scores and the espn page lookis and works great.

the 19.99 internet is for the sidekicks and PDAs/blackberrys.
with those phones, youll have access to the full internet where you can type in "www...." sites, but in my opinion, the sites take too long to load and then when they do load, you have to do a lot of scrolling up and down because they are trying to fit a full webpage on a small screen. sites like nfl.com and nhl.com have so many graphics that it can be annoying waiting for the page to load. to me, its not worth the 19.99.

i dont mind my internet being relatively slow (5-7 seconds to load each page) for 5.99 a month. with the 5.99 regular internet, i cant type in 'www....' addresses, but it has espn news which is all i care about anyways because the scores are fast and the interface looks good.

but for 19.99 (and a lot of scrolling), i dont like waiting on the internet that long. just not worth it imo. again, this is personal preference. the sidekick is a cool phone. but i just think the phones/internet are still a little ways away from being synched up to where everything is fast, while also looking good and easy to navigate.
